Holly (one of the singers) was my piano teacher a few years back, they were living out of an old house in Brooklyn back before they started getting big.
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, sonically, lyrically, and visually, with the addition of this brilliant video. 1:27 and 3:52 are especially powerful. I was in the hospital for an inpatient psych program for the past two weeks; no electronics were allowed and there were no radios or any kind of music there...the art therapist there told everyone that we each got to pick one song and she would play it through her laptop for us; I picked this song. When it came on and I heard "You know I'm riding on this wave alone...*You aren't riding on this wave alone*" towards the end I started crying because I was just so comforted by the idea that I'm _not_ riding this wave alone, no matter how lonely I am. Just my story of how this song affected me...thank you.
This is one of the most beautiful songs, top faves of Lucius, and top faves in general. Your songs are so beautiful sounding and HOPEFUL. The message in this one, "you are not riding on this wave alone." It's such a beautiful message and how we should treat each other. I've played it after a few fights with my husband to cheer up and reconnect me to him. Thank you Lucius for your beautiful sounds and beautiful messages.
Literally, this is one of the best songs I've ever heard. I wish more bands would utilize two or more lead singers to create such beautiful harmonies like Lucius does in all of their songs. Bravo!
Beautiful, enchanting singing and music...very happy that I had the chance to find this masterpiece of a band. Slightly retro, slightly indie...just this unique combination of everything...Makes me want to drive with the top down to the sea on a sunny day.
Love this version of Tempest - the thumping drum work, guitar chords, keyboard overlays really kick it up and give it heft and presence. The mellow lead work in the second verse is poignant and perfect. The video is charming and terrifying: the women always look sort of ethereal and dangerous at the same time, the mad smile on the creepy woman hovering over her son singing will give one nightmares, and the bearded dude with the shades is sort of a spectral hillbilly overlord of sorts. I'm not sure if I'm scared or intrigued. And that's what good art should do to someone.
I drove 2 hours from Little Rock to see Lake Street Dive in Memphis. But to my surprise, I heard two voices singing together like I never heard before. Lucius was awesome and I was instantly transformed into a Lucius fan.
I love your music . I heard you on MPR 89.3 THE CURENT STREAMING LIVE TO THE WORLD . AND BE ON . My girl friend told me that this isn't the music that a 54 year old Farmer would listen too. I Love that station and style of music . Cuz I got a Heart beat like I'm only Sixteen ! lol I had to Add that. RogtheFarmer in Grantsburg Wi.
I haven't listened for some time , but I'm from Whitehall , WI . and The Current was one of my favorite stations . Heard soooo much great music there .
Your music entered my brain ,flowed thru my veins where its taken up residence in my heart, and inside my bones.you're REMARKABLE!Sadly discovered you cruising AMAZON,AFTER your swing thru PHILLY in DEC. 13, my LOVE and I were PISSED! We await your safe return to our fair city to experience your magic "LIVE" CONGRATS for the BEST release of 2013.WILDEWOMAN lives in our players DAILY,we NEED it to survive.I know your EUROPEAN tour will be a success, how could it be ANYTHING less.WE LOVE this BAND.PS I'm a drummer and lately I've been giving my BASS DRUM DIRTY LOOKS!
This song made a lot of sense to me this spring during a break-up. The entire album is legit, they are amazing live, and simply down to earth people. I wish them nothing but success.
You guys are so good its not even fair. This isn't even my genre. I'm usually into acoustic and heavy rock. Furthermore, your music made love to my ears so good that, having been an atheist my entire life, I have just accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I'm gonna try to make your show in Albany in December. I'll be the guy weeping uncontrollably.
We are two ships passing How long will this last We haven't had the time to work it out Sitting in the backseat Who knows where our paths meet You keep shouting "we gotta work it out" You gotta believe me when I say I know (Gotta work it out) You aren't riding on this wave alone (Gotta work it out) Gotta believe me when I say I know (Gotta work it out) I already know, I know, I know, I know Yell all that you want to We'll yell it right back to you Back and forth until we tire out Temper into tempest Washes off the madness We're still left with figuring shit out You gotta believe me when I say I know (Gotta work it out) You aren't riding on this wave alone (Gotta work it out) Gotta believe me when I say I know (Gotta work it out) I already know, I know, I know, I know The seeds of what you say all beg for reason Plant them deep so we can disregard them Just get out of your pretty little head I'm just waking up to get back into bed The seeds of what you say all beg for reason Plant them deeply so we can release them Listening to every word you say You're just waking up to get back into bed You aren't riding on this wave alone You aren't riding on this wave alone You aren't riding on this wave alone I already know, I know, I know, I know You gotta believe me when I say I know I already know, I know, I know, I know Alright I already know, I know, I know, I know
just recently heard you gals and guys & freaking love it.. I heard madness first but then searched other songs and found this gem. beautiful harmonies.....
What a very odd, yet brilliant video! Been keeping tabs on you guys since I saw you on Jools Holland a few weeks back. Keep up the superb work and the excellent harmonies! :D
I was scared to listen to any more of their music because usually I hear one great song by a group and expect more great songs from them but the rest of them suck.. But they are different. Didn't think it would get much better than 'Turn It Around', I was wrong.
I had Turn It Around on my iPod for about 5 years before stumbling upon Two Of Us On The Run... (Glancing quick I thought it was a Beatles cover... pleasantly surprised it wasn't!).
Cleo Cam This is the band I was referring too. Oh, BTW , I just ordered Annick Goutal's Mandagragore Pourpe . I am so excited . Mmmm, myrrh and benzion, with spice. Getting it from Saks Fifth Avenue . ManLovesCologne gives a great review on it I haven't been to Hermès , but I am still loving the AN sample .Will be going soon So, what fragrance do you think they would wear wonderfully . I am thinking something sensual and passionate . Maybe A TM's Les ?
Hummm I am thinking of Aedes Copal Azur, a smokey spicy incense with a hint of salt. Sensual and passionate while remaining the realism of human nature with that salt note.
Cleo Cam Really cool you picked a slat note for I just got my Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpe When I first opened it I was very very nervous . I only took of the cap and took a whiff of the sprayer The star anise was nice , but the black pepper was very dominate.Don't get me wrong, it's not a pungent one, it was smooth, but there.I have had one that gave me a headache. So, I had to test it. I only gave a small spritz .It took a good six or seven pumps before it came out, lightly though. This is my initial thought . I have never smelled any fragrance so natural , ever. And to the peeper , as ManLovesCologne puts it , " Magical " . It's only been ten minutes or so.and maybe it's the myrrh . Very Very splendid fragrance. I had Chanel De Blue on earlier , so I will have to fully test it . This one feels like a warm one for the cold weather . Have to fully try it out this weekend. Aedes Copal Azur .Looking it up.Thanks sunshine. EDT. O.K. It's about an hour latter . Mint.Wonderfully blended MINT. So so nice Thank you for this one ManLovesCologne oh such a nice pepper . : )

+Jordan Gibbs Good question! I thought I recognized the hook from the Samsung commercial: "She's looking through the...." and I just had to find out if I really did. Apparently, I heard Turn It Around without knowing it, and listened to Lucius without knowing it. Great group! Love 'em!
+Lyndsy Richards have you listened to Dusty trails yet? their voices, though beautiful all on their own, compliment each other in a way that gives me chills

That was very moving. I agree that this is such a beautiful song. Thank you & and may life bring you peace & a measure of joy.
i met the blonde kid once, he was hitch-hiking in vermont. said he was lost, it was crazy. i hope he’s alright. i drove off tho (serial killer vibes)
Iykyk
I got to see them when they came to UK. Amaazing energy and great showmanship... oh and severely talented. Lovely ladies!

This song really holds up very well for some reason. I heard it on the radio today and BOOM here I am... love it.
The chorus bit at 3:50 is out of this world. These women can sing for real and they prove it at their shows. A band to definitely keep eyes on.
I love your music . I heard you on MPR 89.3 THE CURENT STREAMING LIVE TO THE WORLD . AND BE ON . My girl friend told me that this isn't the music that a 54 year old Farmer would listen too. This song made a lot of sense to me this spring during a break-up. The entire album is legit, they are amazing live, and simply down to earth people. I wish them nothing but success.
Wow! This group makes some extremely interesting videos. Flying under the radar or am I just late to the party?
+LearnAmericanEnglishOnline yes

Zahhhhh....I wish I was able to go to Portland to see them...they are magic.
I'm hooked videos out there a little bit but the music's good

jyliemarie Love this band. Great writers and singers. They have other great material too. Live and such.
Very good song and a great band beginning to grow
Album is a cool debut, beautiful harmonies and a funky sound
What's not to love ?
Fantastic
Ughhh fell in love with them ever since Local Natives show at Terminal 5, but please show more of holly laessig! I'm in love with her!!!
I don't see anybody drawing the parallel to ABBA with these guys. That is intended as a HUGE compliment!
eric moser i was deffo getting ABBA vibes here, such a similar sound, i wonder if they were inspired by them
We are two ships passing
How long will this last
We haven't had the time to work it out
Sitting in the backseat
Who knows where our paths meet
You keep shouting "we gotta work it out"
You gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out)
You aren't riding on this wave alone
(Gotta work it out)
Gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out)
I already know, I know, I know, I know
Yell all that you want to
We'll yell it right back to you
Back and forth until we tire out
Temper into tempest
Washes off the madness
We're still left with figuring shit out
You gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out)
You aren't riding on this wave alone
(Gotta work it out)
Gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out)
I already know, I know, I know, I know
The seeds of what you say all beg for reason
Plant them deep so we can disregard them
Just get out of your pretty little head
I'm just waking up to get back into bed
The seeds of what you say all beg for reason
Plant them deeply so we can release them
Listening to every word you say
You're just waking up to get back into bed
You aren't riding on this wave alone
You aren't riding on this wave alone
You aren't riding on this wave alone
I already know, I know, I know, I know
You gotta believe me when I say I know
I already know, I know, I know, I know
Alright
I already know, I know, I know, I know
Randy Spinks thanks for putting the lyrics online :)

Thank you to NPR's All Songs Considered for introducing me to Lucius!
wow, i felt the full lynchian effect... well done
Aaaaamazing. I have always wondered if the song has somehow been influenced by the famous play with the same name?
tam bir gün ayrılarak incelenecek grup. umarım çok ünlü olurlar usaga da gelirler :(((
Art
we love you.
Genius.
Oh so very underrated.
I always see this video before to sleep
I think I'm in love! #bulletsnlace
how do people not know abut them?

took a liking to Dusty Trails on spotify.thought I'd check out some of their other songs.I think I like this one even better
I found them when they were on roadies, so I am late to the game too, but I sure am glad they were featured on the show.
+Lyndsy Richards have you listened to Dusty trails yet? their voices, though beautiful all on their own, compliment each other in a way that gives me chills
Unique sound born again teens a good example so is this song pretty badass
David Lynch esque video. Adore this song
my heart goes to the official stream video but it only concerns me :)
What's Si Robertson doing in y'all's video?
Ok❤
This needs more recognishon
the world already has more than enough indie bands
and more than enough people shitting on the work of others - but that didn't stop you, did it?
Spoken as if you're the authority on these matters. Nothing like idiots who present their opinions as fact.
Or too few record labels taking any risks, choosing to pedal typical drab.
The world already has more than enough of anything you don't want, but not enough of whatever you do. Well, this world isn't just about you.

Just euphoric!!
Will someone ask Jess to marry me?!!

I forgot about this song the hell
Tubefilter Must Watch Music Video!
great band, great album :]

Prospect Park I assume.
That's got to be Rick Rubin...Yes....The old guy with shades on...
i seen these girls in albanyn.y. there the greatest singers together ever
I’m not sure who the blonde kid is, but something about him really unsettles me…. I don’t feel safe anymore
The Shining twins all grown up.
The blonde kid bullied me
Okay Lucius, how much did you have to pay God himself to produce this song for you? That's the only possible explanation. Damn good video too.
+pC Lucius could be a not very subtle alias for the angel who used to be in charge of music before falling out with God. :V
I liked Lucius better when it was a band (like this), not just the two front people.
