    Can we spare a moment to thank responsible magnet fishers everywhere in the UK for cleaning up our waterways and contributing to museums and historical knowledge.
    Few hobbies can claim to be so socially beneficial.
    (I'm not a magnet fisher, but they have my respect.)

      @@paulhiggins6024 And who is to blame for the changes over the last few years? Those people who are happy to attack, stab or shoot police officers or anyone else who gets in their way. The fact we have to provide officers with body armour as standard, and in some cases, firearms, is a sad state of affairs. Compared to many police forces around the world, UK police are quite subdued in their appearance and attitude.

    • @another3997
      @another3997 Рік тому +7

      If you'd actually listened, you'd have heard that the first two officers were there looking for someone else, not for the gun. And as they weren't firearms officers, sensibly, they're not allowed to deal with firearms. So that's TWO officers for the gun, not four. Your mate got robbed? Police will have taken a statement, descriptions and details of any property stolen. Unless he is being attacked or physically threatened, or an intruder is in his house, it's hardly an emergency. Seems you've just got personal issues with the police. 🙄

    • @another3997
      @another3997 Рік тому +3

      @@daves4026 Spot on... apart from the fact he's wrong. Only two officers for the gun, because the first two were there on other business, and were asked to help. As a rule, only firearms officers are allowed to deal with firearms, whether they may or may not be functional. As for his mates supposed "robbery", it clearly wasn't a situation requiring immediate response. I bet they spoke to an officer, got a crime number and he gave them all the details he could. Yet this muppet thinks they should immediately send out a dozen officers to look explicitly for stolen property.

    Is that like a proper operating canal for narrow boats ?, I've only just got into those videos but that style of travel seems so peaceful. So a lump of metal that used to be a gun is of interest to police, but the detonation head of a military shell is ok, you have the oddest police, but so chill.

Stuff dragged out, left on the bank, lobbed back in, dragged back out.......a shooting by the other team happened, gun apparently thrown in canal at Broughton Lane, so police came with divers, looking for a dumped car and a gun......the day before that stretch was magnet fished to death, I saw all these police divers bobbing about and thought good luck.......they found nothing but a trolley and a DVLA wheel clamp!

      @robertstallard7836 Рік тому

      @@stevef8606 That's true - they'll attend if they're sent there by the Control Room. SOCO are a support arm. Their job concerns the collection and preservation of purely physical evidence. Theey're not investigators in the overall sense.
      On attendance, the "normal PC" will ascertain what happened, record the crime (detail the method of entry and exit, method of search, list missing items and values etc.), obtain a statement from the property owner, conduct house-to-house enquiries, enquire after and seize CCTV images, request SOCO if appropriate, etc. etc.
      It's pretty basic stuff and not particularly difficult
      Unfortunately, acquisative crime has had to take a back seat in the face of increasingly common life-endangerment issues such as suicides, mental health, domestic violence, missing persons, concern for welfare and the like, many of which weren't previously a priority.
      On top of that, you've got the increasingly trendy "hate crime" that unfortunately means that if a complaint alleging it is made, they have no option but to follow it up.

    These police authorized, dredging, activities here for old weapons &/or ordnance are going on along the canal at the old Royal Ordnance Depot at “Weedon Bec” in Northamptonshire near Daventry in the south Midlands that had been used by the Army, the Ordnance Board & the War Office (One of the three services departments along with the Admiralty & Air Ministry that were the forerunners of the current MOD in the UK 🇬🇧 before their amalgamation in 1964), since this important national defence facility was built in 1805-06 during the Napoleonic War & used extensively throughout the wars & conflicts of the 19th Century as well as both of the World Wars until the 1960s.
    The canal there is an offshoot or cutting, some 3 to 4 miles distance from the Grand Union Canal that had been opened some 10 years previously in 1796. It is also quite close to the River Nene & the spot had been originally, strategically chosen for its close proximity to British inland waterways network, the Motorways or Interstate Highways of Georgian, Regency & early-Victorian England, & also midway between both the London & Birmingham/West Midlands industrial & prime armament producing areas in the UK 🇬🇧, prior to the advent of the Railways & which directly led to their (Canals) subsequent economic-eclipse in the 1830s & 40s.

    With a revolver in that condition I'm not sure you need to hand it in as it's not going to be remotely servicable, you can buy similar war relics dug from battlefields with no licence required. You would need to get a official confirmation that's all. Maybe insist that the police hand it back after they have examined it? They might be using it to boost up their gun seizure figures at your expense.

    • @jamietaylor5570
      @jamietaylor5570 Рік тому +1

      Legally that's a matter of age, calibre (or cartridge/non-cartridge) rather than condition. Since it appears to be a cartridge firearm it would have to be an obsolete calibre to keep it as-is (without, eg, sec 7 licence). If it's Second World War British then it's probably not obsolete calibre. Could still ask for it "back" to be deactivated or if it has any sale value, but it would have to go to a firearms dealer rather than the finder.
