I bought a TTR125 for my daughter and found it already had the Mikuni carb. Looking closer I found it is the Chinese knock-off (still says Mikuni on the side though). The build quality looks fine, but the main jet threads are an odd size. It was all assembled wrong and after fixing that it was still very rich. I ended up milling out 40 mils on top of the slide where the needle seat is, which is equivalent to one more notch. Runs pretty good now. I milled mine in a lathe with a 5/16 mil bit, but if careful you could do it in a drill press. There is plenty of meat in the slide remaining after milling out the 40 mils. Wrap a sheet of paper around the slide before chucking it up, or use a block of wood with a hole cut out for clamping in a vise.

@@MotocrossHideout thanks for the link, Great info. Turns out that the unit I got brand new from sudco had the air screw turned out 5.5 with some very wonky jetting in it. Currently at 900ft, 50*F 70% humidity it’ll finally idle no choke with a 30 pilot, 150 main, needle in 1st position, air screw 1.75 turns out is most crisp. Now that I have it able to idle I can tune it. It wouldn’t run with the 17.5 pilot and 110 main.
Hey there. are there any more hoses that need to be attached to the carb other than fuel line and clear overflow on bottom. my 2012 has 2 extra hoses on it
The link to amazon goes to a different carb than is in the vid. The one it goes to has no choke plunger and is totally different visually and structually. Can someone put a link to a carb that would work?
yes a longer fuel line is necessary...BUT...it will have to flow up hill...not sure if this will work.the the carb inlet line is higher than the petcock outlet ….anyone else have this problem../????????
where does the orange tube (Im not sure exactly what its called) connect to? mine is not connected to anything on the other end and i cant figure out wehre it goes and when i start my bike it leaks gas? any help????
Wait so I got the Mikuni vm 24 pre jetted to fit my Ttr 125 and it started right away but my isssue is it’s to rich like way to rich so I adjust the idle or no , what do I need to do
Hey man, I have a 2008 ttr 125 L and there are two throttle cables (springloaded) on the right side of the carb to include the choke cable. I purchased this VM24 carb to install so my question is: Where does the second throttle cable belong if you only connected one? Or maybe my throttle spring set up is different from yours. Thanks
Mine is that way, too. My throttle quit a couple weeks ago and I can't figure the damn thing out. Took the carb apart, re-jetted, cleaned, and the thing idles (on choke) but the throttle does nothing anymore, even though the cables work just fine. The slide isn't even connected to the throttle cable, which is super frustrating. I want to put a whole new carb on, but that dual cable setup seems like it will complicate things
I have a 2009 ttr125 and the carb looks like the one you installed. My problem is that the idle is very high. It will drop if I tap the carb with a screw driver handle. It looks like the throttle valve is hanging up a bit. Took it apart and it slides up and down very smoothly. The cable is good and not holding it. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?
I am having a hell of a time finding a REAL Mikuni VM24 carb.. There really isnt a way to tell.. I go to the Mikuni sight and go to "distributors" and when I compare pictures say from Parts Unlimited, and other reputable sellers, they are all different. Some have a pull choke, some have a lever, some have a brass thing sticking out the top where the throttle cable goes in and some have a black rubber looking piece. In fact, I cant find one that looks like the one on Mikuni's site. I am lost. Any advice on this? Thanks a bunch.
I have an 05 with the choke up top I've done everything I know to do.. will the vm carb work on it with just drilling out the cap. or is there more needing done. also is the direct fit new Mikuni carb for this year model better than what's on it . as in did the reproduce a better one for it.
I have done this swap on both of my TTR125's and it they both worked better than the stock carburetor. Drilling the cap was the only "mod" that I had to do on both of mine. There may be a better carb if you want to spend more money, but it depends on what kind of improvement you want. This is probably the best carb for a stock engine with few or no other mods.
please help me NOW !!!!!!!! can i use my tmx makuni carb off my YZ125 ON A TTR125 im tuning to the max???? PLEASE i have one staring at me old and abused to much for my yz but will look boss with my mad max style bike im retunning it again right now
I have a 2003 ttr125 and the bike runs ok but when u give it too much throtttle it bogs and at full throttle it hesitates I think I have a knock off version mikuni carb I got it off of eBay. Any shuggestions on what size jets to use? I'm pretty sure it's running rich Bc it backfires a little
I do not recommend using knock-off carbs, but it sounds like your pilot jet is too lean. Go up/bigger one or two sizes and see if that helps. Hesitating at full throttle could be rich if it's a "sputtering" sound. Going down on the main jet should make it run better and full throttle. With that said, only make one change at a time or else you will get confused on what change makes it run better or worse.
Those knock off carbs will run super lean at one RPM with and super rich at another. They're just messed up through and through. Some of them are decent but its not worth messing around. Just get a legit one from a legit store. Its not much money. $100 and you can actually ride your bike instead of get frustrated by it.
@@MotocrossHideout I believe I have one of these on it now but don't know for sure. Choke and adjusting screw are on the same side where this one isn't. Can I email you a picture?

Congrats on the new bike, Austin! When you twist the throttle, the return cable will rotate/push back towards the carb and away from the throttle housing.

I just installed the VM-24 carb on my 06 TTR 125 and it started on the first kick without even using the choke!!! Thanx to Sonny at SUDCO!!!
What jets?

Where did you buy the carb? I'm guessing it's rich. Try a 105 main and 17.5 pilot if it's still not running.
MotocrossHideout I got it from Niche Motorsports. VM24-512 version. I will try that. Thanks.
+turkishexpress A few hours after riding with the carb my spark plug fouled try changing the plug.
@turkishexpress Did it work for you? Any problems with changing the jets? They fit ok?
Way too lean with that jetting. With this VM24 carb on a TTR you need a 150 main jet and a 40 Pilot jet. Thats for sea level jetting.

Billy Boots Basically the same thing. You can just leave out the second cable that would "pull" back.
Alright, thanks!
Billy Boots Did it work? I have a 2012, want to try the same. Thanks.
i ended up not doing it as i got a new 125 sx, but i say it would still be feasible, just look into it further.
Munk Davis in my opinion it might be better saving up for a newer bike, like a 125 or 85 2 stroke.

24mm. Thanks for watching, Sigma!

Will the vm24 fit on my 09 ttr 125 le
Yes. You will need to remove the stock 'return' throttle cable, as the VM24 only makes use of the single cable.
Do you have to remove it or can it just stay
Like can it just be zip tied
How do you know which is the RETURN throttle cable? Newbie here just bought first bike tonight needs new carb and want to do it correctly! Thanks
