My day is made with this choice. Boccherini and the guitar 🙂

This sounds to me like you have just opened a treasure box I hitherto haven't dipped into. My ears tell me not to waste time and get on with listening to these recordings.

Just listened to a couple on UA-cam and I guess I need to learn a lot more for some reason I was expecting a guitar quintet meant 5 guitars ...which I thought would be really cool... Instead I discovered it was a string quartet with a guitar… oh well I still loved it :)

I quite like Berio's arrangement of the Ritirata. Move over, Bolero.

Dear Dave, I am happy to have a video about Boccherini's guitar music. You had mentioned them in the video on Boccherini's string quartets. In your recent video on Paganini, you mentioned he wrote some great guitar music as well, so I am hoping for a video on Paganini guitar sonatas???? All in all, I feel the classical guitar has been sadly neglected on your channel, which I am sure you will remedy at some point in the (near?) future ....Si? I know the repertoire is limited but surely there are some sadly neglected treasures out there? Enough for a "12" list?

It's not a priority, to be honest. As you say, the repertoire is limited, and so, I feel, is the instrument, although I will do more eventually.

@@DavesClassicalGuideMost composers probably would agree with you, that the instrument is limited. That's why the repertoire is limited in the first place. Speaking as a traitor to my own instrument here. But at least we don't sound like a herd of cows.

@@fabioguglielmo4196 Hey, I'm a percussionist that believes the percussion concertos are mostly nonsense. Instruments are what they are.

Hello David, sorry to hear about your your cat Pipo. If you don't mind me asking, have you thought about creating a list of outstanding Audiophile recordings? Recordings that have fantastic audio and performance characteristics and would blow your sox off! For example, Minnesota, Oue and Copland Symphony No 3.

By whatever coincidence, last night I was listening to the classic DG recording by Yepes and the Melos Quartet of G's 448, 451 and 453. And I decided to get another recording, because I am annoyed at the castanets in 448's fandango: they seem to have their own special microphone, and the way they loudly jump in out of nowhere is very jarring (plus the cellist does not play them, but a special castanet-ist was brought in). More strangely, the first two movements are REVERSED! Could there have been a legitimate scholarly excuse for that mistake?
    Meanwhile, I am on the fence between Tokos-Danubius and Romero-St. Martin's ...

I have the same reaction to the Yepes recording, but did like his handling of the E minor quintet.

Great works. I’ve got Pepe Romero with the Academy of St Martin’s Chamber Ensemble which I love, but eager to hear these. Have you done videos on his symphonies? I want to explore them but need a bit of guidance as to where a good starting point is. Thanks!

Ha, I just found that I have the third volume of this favorite of yours. Didn’t even know it - must have been a “here, check this out” from my dad. There are a few discs like that in my collection.

I recommend his Symphony in C, G. 523. It has a guitar part in it as part of the string texture. I haven't done a comparative listen, but I'm pretty sure there's a few different recordings to stream.

@@Baritocity, that sinfonia concertante is popularly recorded and a worthy listen. My personal favorite is Savino's on Koch coupled with Giuliani's first guitar concerto.
