I can't believe it took so long for the true mystery to be unraveled. Everyone was so obsessed with the gothic/cosmic horror element-- Bram Stoker this and Lovecraft that-- the medical metaphor was tragically brushed off as mere visual influence. Those authors are absolutely relevant to the theming but thanks to your (forbidden) research this games' unspeakable level of storytelling depth has been made accessible.

i've been bingewatching this series for around 3 days now and its incredibly sad to see such good research get this little recognition. i really hope you get more recognized by bloodborne fans :)

Well, there's a reason for there being little recognition: all of these videos had to be reuploaded. I can't exactly recall why, but I think his channel got hacked at one point. I remember a bygone time when all these videos once had tens to hundreds of thousands of views.

Fascinating, it's easy now to imagine hemwick starting as a large functional workhouse complex, before falling into depravity and madness like the rest of yarnham

It's fascinating how many meanings you can give just to the name Hemwick.
Even if it's incorrect, it conjures up "Hem"lock, the witches poison and wicking itself, drawing lickquid out of cloth.

I like this guy he reminds me of a Bloodborne version of Tarnished Archeologist. He is using the real world historical insperations of Bloodborne to better understand its theme. Not plot or setting but theme. The plot of Bloodborne is rooted in Eldritch/victorian horror with Fromsoftware's unique brand of story telling. Its setting is inspired by a unique combination of werewolf legends and Lovecraftian Eldrich concepts. This guy is saying that the theme of Bloodborne = Victorian Surgery.
Just as TA equates the theme of Elden Ring with medieval alchemy and arboreal botany while still conceding the obvious Norse/Celtic insperations for the setting and the Medieval Romantic or Arthurian inspirations for the plot.

The various fires in hemwick could also be a reference to the various midwives that had been accused of heresy and witchcraft and burned at the stake. Cauterization is used to stem bleeding which can happen when a woman hemorrhages during childbirth (another theme bloodborne explores in relation to the Great Ones) and midwives were very knowledgeable on surgical practices themselves which could be another theory.

Just wanna say I really enjoy your narration and presentation style. It's difficult to explain, but sometimes constantly shifting fancy footage can feel obscuring in its own right. Your simpler but information-dense format really gets me thinking and keeps me engaged. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. It's seriously enjoyable, and the explanation is deeply compelling. Thank you for the videos.

This series is incredibly well put together. Thank you for this. I’ve been looking for someone to take the place of Redgrave since he bowed out, you are really carrying this style of lore breakdown to the next level.
