This is so inspiring, I'm a scientist as well (biologist getting my master's degree) and I've always wanted to work with art (but not full time). It's comforting knowing it's possible to work with both, now I just need to know what to do with all my other multiple passions lol

Ahh best of luck with your Masters degree! The world needs more artsy and creative biologists! Your art is so needed (please keep doing it!) and, although I've found it quite hard at times to keep both ongoing, I do believe whatever you find joy in always finds you again.
Hahaha perhaps a multipotentialite support group is needed!

the drawing you made for your cat actually made me cry. My dog died more than a year ago, and I felt such a loss since we grew up together and he always accompanied me, but I've never even held him after he became an adult, I was scared he would bite me. I miss him so much and sometimes I wish I could have held him tightly to me 😭💔
but nonetheless, your drawing made me remember the sweet shorty dog that always new when I felt sad and stuck around to make me company, and was so lovable that everyone adored him. I hope that at least he has a nice place to be, wherever he's at

This is so wonderful and I'm so glad you're not putting your science aside either! I know quite a few people in science who've combined the two now and I'm so proud of us all. Keep living out your interests and your passion will speak for itself in the work you create and do x
Anything beside a full time job is hugely difficult, which is why I've been on and off here for a few years.. However, the mindset of "show your work" helps me - even if I'm just drawing something for comfort on the sofa, watching Gilmore Girls!
      (my cats thank you)

It's inspiring to see someone like you. I love science and I also love art and I don't see a lot of people like this..
Right now I'm preparing for my entry exam for med school and hopefully I could succeed to become a doctor and a part time artist 🙏 thank you for your video. It helped me to remember the reason why I want to do this

Thank you so much 🙏 and this sounds so exciting! Wishing the very best of luck with your entry exam! Your new journey is just about to begin 🥹
Always remember you bring something so unique to this world; something no one else can. Keep sharing your art - we need it - and stay curious! :)

Thank you!! I am doing my science degree right now and I am in my exams season but I don’t have the energy to study because lately i have been focusing on art so much, sometimes i think with myself that i should just to my minimum effort with my science degree and focus on art but watching your video motivate me and open my eyes to actually give both theirs time and effort

@@flowey01 thank you so much for this comment 🙏 wishing you all the best with your exams!
Honestly, I find the balance between the two quite difficult to maintain. I go some months with not touching my art (years during my PhD), so please do what you feel is best suited to your preferences and lifestyle. What matters most is your health and the burnout isn’t worth the trade to do both things. Also, I’ll say that I do often get frustrated with how slowly my art progresses and how little attention I can give it at times because, in my life currently, my science job takes precedence.
I believe in you and your abilities to make choices that work best for you and make you a happy bean!

This is such a sweet and encouraging message - thank you so much! Hahaha life has stabilised a little more recently so I'm really going to try this time for a much more frequent video "output" :) xx

This was such an interesting video! I also love science and art, and so the fact you showcased how you manage both and coordinate them was very intriguing. I also love your illustrations; they give a feeling of other wordliness, memories, nostalgia, and childhood. Also for the drawing, maybe something along the lines of: "this world is so much bigger because you are in it" /"my world is so much bigger when you're in it"(as they are are both looking up to the sky's vastness, explaining the use for bigger, and others can often broaden your perspectives and life as a whole). I sincerely hope Lily gets better, she seems very gentle. Wish you the best!
Also what educational pathway did you do to pursue a career in neuroscience, as was always curious of it but don't really know how to direct myself (I'm a student)!
P.S: It's quite late in my country when I'm writing this, so please excuse the occasional lack of coherence.

This is such a thoughtful comment, thank you so much! I’m not sure I’m doing the balancing as well as I could be yet, but all we can do is try!
I did the usual undergraduate to PhD route into my career where I started off in Developmental Biology and realised I loved the neuro bit of it and how the brain develops in utero. I then did a PhD in circuitry building at the very earliest stages and now I’m in a postdoc which a little more clinically oriented. I hope that helps a little, but if anything, I didn’t have a plan to begin with. I just went with what interested me most and also paid enough to survive alone on 😅
