this was very good, i think the question brought up by the cowboys about ownership is super valid. I would say that since the ranking is "front office" and not "GM" you need to consider ownership. If the owner is tight on the purse strings or has other defects that can be a real factor in offseason efficacy.
as a bengals fan i totally agree with where they're ranked. they have spent about 4 years trying to address the Oline and it has gotten slightly better but the entire defense has drastically regressed in the past 2 years.
Bengals grade is tough but I think fair. It’s definitely an old school front office that is handicapped by ownership that doesn’t want to give out a lot of guaranteed money to players. Forces them to hit on draft picks which they just have not done.
I think that you might have been a little dismissive of the Steelers. I appreciate the A, but since Omar Khan took the reigns in 2022 he has been nothing but money. Not only have his drafts been phenomenal, but he is 2nd to none in the acquisition department. I mean cmon, this man somehow convinced the Bears that Chase Claypool was worth the 32nd overall pick, and then a year and a half later convinced them to give us their promising young qb for a 6th. Gotta give the Khan Artist his flowers lol
Giving contract extensions to Justin Jefferson and Christian Darrisaw, plus bringing in great value free agents this offseason while navigating the moving on from Kirk Cousins was fantastic management. Having a tonne of cap space next season is beautiful.
I would probably have put Kwesi in the B tier. I think he deserves credit for not resigning Kirk. Also i think part of being a good GM is getting the right head coach. Thanks for the video, was great!
Byron Murphys season hasnt really been 'derailed by injuries' seattles has, but murphy was only injured for maybe 3 weeks but he has been a borderline elite run defender when hes on the field before or after the injury. Also the LOB drafts, especially the first 2, were almost completely pete carrolls doing, their 'power' levelled out over the years and Schneider was definitely responsible for seattles past 3 drafts especially 21 + 22 which are probably the best classes of any team those years
Jack Cambell has been amazing for the Lions this year he’s becoming one of the top tier lbs in the NFL. Levi is finally healthy and making an impact. Also Derrick Barnes in that first draft was a steal.
I think youre wrong about the 2023 Vikings Draft. Blackmon had a good stretch last year but tore his achilles this year which you didnt mention/know. Addison is good as you said, and they got Pace. So three starters is a decent draft/UDFA class. Way better than the first.
Yeah I was about to comment the same thing. 2023 was way better than 2022. I like that Kwesi is learning on the job. It shows humility and growth. But I think the trades and free agent signings are the bread and butter. Honestly think they are high B to low A overall. C feels criminal.
@ Add in that Kwesi signed KOC, a Top10 HC, and instantly got rid of donatell to sign flores. He made some A+ moves and always seems to learn from mistakes like you said
One thing I wish you would’ve mentioned about the Rams (that I’ve heard you say before) is their continued investment in injury-prone players, which has hurt them before
Like who? I don't think they "invest" in injury-prone players, but they will gamble on a 1 year OBJ or Tre White for a very small amount of money which certainly isn't an "investment".
i think the browns should get lowered to at the highest a C just with the Watson acquisition. Not so much them getting him but more so for what they gave up to get him and the fully guaranteed contract on top of all that. Really set this franchise back 5 years when they had a talented roster before they got him.
One small amendment to your analysis of the chiefs was yo said no one outside of Rashee Rice from last years draft has been a hit. But despite being someone disappointing this year, Chamari Connor has been hit, simply because of how amazing he played in the SB as rookie. He played great last year in his snaps and was crucial in the chiefs defense shutting down the 49ers in the 2nd half of the SB.
RE: Rick Spielman. As a Vikings fan, I still have a lot of love for Rick. But he needed to go. If you go back in the drafts, he had an all-time draft in 2015 and sort of rode that high until he was let go. Yes, he had JJ fall into his lap in 2020, and he made the right move. But if you look at all the defensive players he drafted from 2016 until he was let go, none of them panned out. We were constantly misfiring on DBs, whether it was Trae Waynes (who was fine but not worth a top ten pick), Mike Hughes, or Jeff Gladney (rest in peace). He struggled to identify good defensive talent. I agree with the Kwesi ranking, where he is looking hit and miss on drafts, mostly miss. But in FA Kwesi is as good as they come. Also on Mekhi Blackmon, he was terrific as a rookie then tore his ACL in camp. He was looking fantastic.

The rams drafts have been just absolutely insane! I don’t think I see another team doing better a job as far as success rate of these late rounders. Fiske is in conversation for DROY … so even if only for his 4.7 speed they killed it. The cap space after this season is top 5

Let's start after josh allen became josh allen and not account for the vision beane and McDermott had. And docking them for not winning the super bowl is wild too. Yeah they're a top 4 team every year but 1 year since the front office too over. B tier
1:30:13 the thing with tuner actually is it might be a case where we filled a need in the draft we later fixed with free agency. Our other players at that position have been doing amazing so turner hasn’t really seen play much because of that. It always felt like a classic case of “a great player stuck behind better players”
An underrated part of the bucs front office is their loyalty, Alex cappa is literally the only good starter Licht has drafted in his 11 years here that he didn't sign to a second contract
Greatly disagree with Ballard that high. He'll probably be fired after this season. 8 years and only 1 playoff win to show for it. Took forever to finally draft a QB, kept throwing old QB bandaids on it. His HC's have never panned out. He HAS been very good in the draft. But he's failed to better the team via FA, consistently leaves big holes on the roster because he won't spend the money. We'll never know who was behind controlling the AR situation between him, Steichen, or Irsay (I would imagine the latter) but it was a disaster and an embarrassment how it was handled. There's been no real culture here during his time as GM and it's time to move on. If he could just handle draft responsibilities he'd be great.
Safeties or tight ends rank is my pick for ranks. Lukas van ness has better days ahead of him , maybe more weight training to get use to the rigors that come w being a starting edge but im optimistic for y'all green bay fans.. Great analysis on my nyg per usual, something is spoiled rotten in house bc we have a lot of good players that really dont get inspired w this staff. Everyone leaves and is top tier, im telling you rn bellinger is freaking next to leave and go off.
I think B is solid for the Broncos. The Russ trade really holds it back a bit, but the current grouping of guys in the FO figured a way to get rid of him and still be competitive brings it back up to a B.
Love EDC as a GM, always seems to land at least 2 starters in every draft, doesn't really make big mistakes in FA (Earl Thomas being the only real one) and he's a master of trades, got Marcus Peters for very little, he was awesome pre-ACL tear, Calais Campbell got him for nothing and he was awesome, Roquan for a 2nd, was a steal, sending out Marquise Brown for a 1st was insane value. In my opinion, he's the 3rd best GM in the league behind Veach and Roseman
Mekhi is also a hit for us. Sadly he tore his ACL in the start of training camp but last year he was really good. And at least Kwesi has bit the bullet on his misses (see 2022).
I think the reason you don't see Ballard making trades and spending in FA is because he knows the Colts aren't in "win now" mode. They're in " wait-and-see AR's development" mode, so he's not making those moves you see those "win now" teams making. That said, I think if AR starts to become more consistent in addition to the flashes we're seeing from him, you'll start to see him make those moves like when he signed Stephon Gilmore in FA in 2022 (we all know how that year went). I see it as a wise move to keep cap space in reserve and not trade away players/picks to maintain flexibility for the future.
Gute swings heavy at the plate in round 1. When he hits, it’s out the park. But he’s certainly prone to being struck down and whiffing at the ball. Taking Meyers over Humphrey was bad. Taking Quay over Trent McDuffie was horrid. But we’ve also gotten one of the most talented gunslingers in football, an All Pro caliber CB and an at times dominate player in Gary. This most recent draft class is looking very solid with guys like Bullard, Cooper, Morgan should contribute in the future as he’s too talented and the most underrated pick of the 2024 draft in Evan Williams. Gute struck pure gold in 33.
Rams find two all pro players in the fifth round back to back years one of which broke both major rookie wide receiver records. Almost entire analysis is passive aggressive defense of the continued skepticism on the Braden Fiske pick. Like actually incredible. There was more talk on Fiske being a stunt merchant than Puka or the myriad of starters that were found 3rd round onwards.
@@ThatFranchiseGuy yes quite possibly - my memory not always reliable ! great pods - I watch them all. Will be over next season for a couple of games - this year was superb.
As a Bills fan, I'd grade our drafts C and coaching and development A+. I see high floor average prospects who took some time, learned a system and progressed into solid NFL starters. Also I see few really bad misses like Boogie Basham and Kair Elam, and only two break out players - Kincaid and Cook.
I really appreciate all the effort you put into these videos-it really helps me get a better insight into the rest of league than just my own team I root for (Det) you’ve helped me become a football nerd myself
Giants D or F. Paying jones, letting McKinney walk, letting saquon go to Eagles. 2 disaster draft classes. Problems in in front office building, lost the Locker room. We have one of the worst run organizations and the team has regressed every year.
The Bills might be one of the best front offices in the NFL at trades, cap management and mid to late round drafting, and one of the worst at early round drafting. If they could find just one first round star, they'd be in a totally different position. Instead they just keep making due with developing good players and system players. It means they have a deep well rounded roster, but they keep lacking that one big play
Ranking front offices is kind of like evaluating a team's offense. You can see the results on the field, and there are some places where you can clearly call out mistakes or poor performance, but you don't really know what the play call was and how they coach it. Maybe the receivers ran bad routes because that's exactly how it's called and coached. Maybe the QB starts his progression on the wrong side of the field because that's what he's told to do. And for front office, maybe they trade for Watson because the owner told them to, and they executed that terrible decision perfectly.
On the Lions, you didn’t mention the Jamaal Williams and David Montgomery moves. They get a humongous year from Williams, brilliantly let him walk and instead grab Montgomery.
I've been saying this for a while with the Cowboys, and I'm a vikings fan, but I think ESPN is extra critical of them because of how big their market it, like I always thought that drafted pretty good, but when you dig deep on the last couple of years I was even more surprised how good they actually did draft. I thought converting Micah to a pass rusher was also a really good move to.
Not sure..... Steelers 3 coaches since 1969 and all three won superbowls, can't remember the last time they even had a top 10 draft pick. Big Ben was #11 i think. very few losing seasons in 50 years, I mean what other fanbase complains because the team had a winning seasons and thats below the expectations. I can accept as a point in time right now maybe the Steelers aren't elite..... but neither are the Ravens or Buccaneers. Patriots looked amazing with Belichick and brady and are now in the cellar. KC were often in the cellar and now hit it lucky with their QB/coach combo. Steelers literally the only team in the AFC that has been up there and winning at least division titles regularly for the past 50 years.
Somewhere Gutey is laughing that Marcus made this vidoe the 2 weeks Quay Walker, after more then 2 years, FINALLY is kinda good Also Rodgers did not want Humphrey He had said IN HIS WORDS He does not like left handed centers I agree, better guy, but they were trying to sooth over Karen Rodgers
I would say the Packers front is the best when is comes to free agency, and is solid to really good at drafting. Gute has honestly been pretty incredible when he decides to spend in free agency. You have people like Zadarius Smith, Preston Smith, Adrian Amos, Devondre Campbell, Rasul Douglas, Xavier Mckinney, and Josh Jacobs. Honestly, it really does make you think what could've happened if they were more aggressive with rodgers still.
They couldn’t be bc they had one of the most expensive defenses already and bahk/rodgers/adams were taking a good portion of the cap not much left to go around
I have the Falcons at A. The GM got in ATL in a horrible cap situation with a old roster with very few talent and now ATL has one of the most talented and good rosters in the NFL
You're wrong about the Packers GM not making moves. In 2019 he went out and got Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, and Zadarius Smith. Like those free agents turned the team around into 3 straight 13 win teams. He absolutely made big splash moves to load the team up for deep playoff moves. If you're asking why he didnt sell the farm, because a lot of times it dosent work, and then the team is screwed. Look at the Saints since 2018
The draft is only part of what makes GB a good front office. They know when to let guys walk a year before they fall off. The decision to let Rodgers walk and move on with Love was gold for the long term success of the franchise. Signing McKinney and Jacobs this off-season. There's a reason GB has been CONSISTENTLY a contender for 30+ years with only about 2 down years. ELITE front office.
when you say you have faith in Andrew Barry, that’s very clear considering you downplayed one of the worst trades in subsequent contract offers of all time. The Deshaun Watson move should bump them down a grade for that alone at least.
I want to give a little push back on the lions. Their cap management is not great but in the opposite way from normal. They are sitting on $26mil in space. I know they have some monster contracts coming up but I feel like there had to be a couple short term guys they could grab. An extra edge rusher like Clooney when you knew you were coming into the season with injury risks in Davenport and Reader. Stephon Gilmore is in year 47 of his career but he is still usable as one more guy to throw into the mix. My guess is hey thought about it and sided against it. Also they’re obviously still the best team in football. But leaving 26 million on the table is an insane amount of money. Literally two free agents got more AAV than that this whole offseason.
As a Pats fan, I was pissed with every pick they made. Loved Drake Maye, but two teams picked 2/3 of the consensus top 3 QBs and Kraft insisted we get a QB. Every other pick I hated. Hated the trade down and taking Polk, hated both OL picks, I liked Javon Baker but had a feeling he'd fail with us, hated the Joe Milton pick. And then there's Uche who took a significantly smaller contract to stay in NE, just to get traded anyway. It's only 1 year, but Wolf might be worse than Belichick was, at least he could draft Defense and RBs.
The packers have gone back to back hall of famers. Into a kid who looks like he is just as talented, that's generational success and it's unmatched in the league.
You didn't even mention that not only did Licht coax Arians out of retirement with the roster he built, which was obviously good enough to get Brady on board, but after the Superbowl Licht became the only gm in nfl history to retain his full starting lineup, which created arguably the best roster of the last 10 years, now one bad playcall cut the season short but that's not on Licht or the roster he built and it was a loss to the eventual Superbowl champs, and as far as the draft, we drafted a developmental edge to sit behind our two star veterans in a season where there weren't holes to fill, a backup qb for our 80 year old starter, an interior lineman to replace cappa, which would've gone fine if our all pro caliber guard didn't retire unexpectedly and all pro caliber center didn't spontaneously combust, so there was nothing wrong with the process we just couldn't develop them, there were certainly better players available tho, and he's been quiet in free agency recently because he's been focused on re-signing his draft hits and recovering from all the superbowl deadcap, something Mickey refuses to do, but that's over now so expect some splash signings this off-season he's usually pretty aggressive in free agency
ATL should definitely be a D imo. They've earned a C in player evaluation -- both in the draft and free agency -- but the contracts are all huge overpays. I knock them from C to D because those overpays prevent them from additional improvements.
@nautgamingnautgaming9949 agree, but they're paying Cousins 2 years beyond what they needed. They are paying Elliss, Onyemata, McGary, Woerner, and Mooney wayyy to much. They should have $20-25M extra in cap space. That's a pass rusher. They traded a 4th to go get Orhorhoro -- who was viewed as a 3rd rounder -- instead of Johhny Newton, who was viewed as a 1st. Opportunity cost and efficiency are real metrics.

Worst WR room? They at least have 1 great wr, the Patriots on the other hand... Also it doesn't matter but I'd say Denver's TE group are 25th or so lol.
You can't have the worst WR depth chart when you have a true #1, which Sutton is, albeit not a high level one.
@@LucasSChiefsLightning Yeah this broncos fan capping, Chargers are def worse even if Ladd and Sutton are equivalent. TE is buyable but i mean I dont think many teams really have viable TE's in the pass game so it's not marginally a problem per se
@@Nakho- the te role is pretty important in Sean Payton’s offense so it’s kinda amazing they’ve been as good as they have without a good one. Krull, Trautman, and Adkins are all serviceable at best. I will give the rest of the afc west credit tho for giving the broncos a run for their money on having the worst wr room.
this was very good, i think the question brought up by the cowboys about ownership is super valid. I would say that since the ranking is "front office" and not "GM" you need to consider ownership. If the owner is tight on the purse strings or has other defects that can be a real factor in offseason efficacy.
Panthers would be Z tier then lol
Zero to the left as they say in Peru
as a bengals fan i totally agree with where they're ranked. they have spent about 4 years trying to address the Oline and it has gotten slightly better but the entire defense has drastically regressed in the past 2 years.
Legion of Boom was all Pete, he literally recruited all of them in college at some point, giving all the credit To Schneider there is crazy
As a Saints fan, you've ranked our front office wayyy too high. Mickey Loomis is a criminal and needs to be arrested!
He made some A+ moves and always seems to learn from mistakes like you said
Who are Blackmon and Pace again? Seem like a bunch of nobodies to me.
@@JohnOMalley-c6s Blackmon came out of USC and was gonna be a starter for us before his injury. Pace is an absolute baller out of Cincy.
@@JohnOMalley-c6s thats cause youre a casual
Can't forget Jason Licht started as a GM with Tampa in 2014. From that year til now, Tampa is 5th in most drafted pro bowlers
Waiting for my flight for the next hour this is perfect
I'd like to see you rank head coaches (including ones not currently on a team). Love these videos!
You should do an offensive/defensive play callers ranking, would love to hear your thoughts!
Let’s go I can’t want for a other very detailed video, but my man tfg
One thing I wish you would’ve mentioned about the Rams (that I’ve heard you say before) is their continued investment in injury-prone players, which has hurt them before
Like who?
I don't think they "invest" in injury-prone players, but they will gamble on a 1 year OBJ or Tre White for a very small amount of money which certainly isn't an "investment".
@@92Vreid88Kupp, Nacua, Stafford, Atwell should I continue?
i think the browns should get lowered to at the highest a C just with the Watson acquisition. Not so much them getting him but more so for what they gave up to get him and the fully guaranteed contract on top of all that. Really set this franchise back 5 years when they had a talented roster before they got him.
Am I the only one feels like the jags and jets have so little to lose they should just hire Marcus or the bootleg boys for gm?
You are the best NFL/Draft Content creator on this site i have yet to find an NFL Creator in youtube who i religiously watch every video you drop in full immediately as it is dropped love the videos keep up the hard work
The rams drafts have been just absolutely insane! I don’t think I see another team doing better a job as far as success rate of these late rounders. Fiske is in conversation for DROY … so even if only for his 4.7 speed they killed it. The cap space after this season is top 5
The birds have the best front office in the league and I’m forever grateful
the vikings FO is a B for simply not paying Kirk cousins all that money
KAM
negatives
Draft skills and it pretty bad his first 2 ill agree.
positives
Injury replacements during camp and mid season absolutely one of the best in the NFL
examples
TE gets hurt upgrades withs Hockenson
Darrisaw get hurt gets a starting level LT in Cam Robinson to replace
Blackmon goes to IR get Gilmore to replace him
looks for upgrades before and even during the season
2nd RB not playing well go gets Akers for a 2nd year in a row to replace him
DIdnt cave to Kirk cousins stupid demands, gets a Starting level QB performance for 10 mill cap hit.
upgrades RB as soon as GB messes up and release Jones
Free agency with cap space (thanks for saying no to kirk KAM)
replaces an Elite Edge in Hunter with Greenard (having a career year) AVG (unrated high end Edge)
and simply put if the Bears the Freaking Bears who just fired their HC after letting him address the media is a B than the vikings FO who will have 2 out 3 seasons with a winning record if a B at minimum because at the end of the day winning is all that matters in the NFL
We love you ! Best UA-camr don’t at me
You nailed the Bucs front office...
Excellent and zero drama.
Adding on the Ravens hits for someone who isn't getting as much hype as he deserves. Travis Jones is breaking out right now.
Jack Campbell is also our defensive Captain now that Anzalone is out for the season. He's a staple and without that pick we would be lost defensively
As a Bengals fan, I agree 100% with your take.
It's incredibly frustrating.
Already said it on X but Marcus, love the long form content! I work overnights at a factory and your vids and others get me through kt man!
Marcus Williams looks like another FA failure. Weird that EDC seems to strike out on veteran safeties but gets really good homegrown guys there
Mekhi is also a hit for us.
Offensive tackle, Edge Rusher tier rankings would be awesome.
i’ve been waiting for a video like this for a good minute!
As a guy from Chicago that wakes up every Sunday thankful I’m not a bears fan, they should definitely be lower.
Loved the vid! I just personally think Trent Baalke is way overhated
Marcus - great job. One of the aspects I always think about / fascinating
didnt the eagles take Jalen at 9 ie ahead of Chicago at 10 ?
I believe Chicago moved down with Philly?
@@ThatFranchiseGuy yes quite possibly - my memory not always reliable ! great pods - I watch them all. Will be over next season for a couple of games - this year was superb.
Incredible video!!
You have the best content of its type on UA-cam
As a Bills fan, I'd grade our drafts C and coaching and development A+. I see high floor average prospects who took some time, learned a system and progressed into solid NFL starters. Also I see few really bad misses like Boogie Basham and Kair Elam, and only two break out players - Kincaid and Cook.
RB or QB Tiers for sure! RB would be helpful with this strong incoming RB draft class!
The front office traded for deshaun Watson lol
Before i watch this if Dallas isnt dead last then this list is wrong
On the Lions, you didn’t mention the Jamaal Williams and David Montgomery moves. They get a humongous year from Williams, brilliantly let him walk and instead grab Montgomery.
Bengals fan here, surprised we aren't F tier. Our front office is horrendous and lucked into some superstar talent.
What makes the ravens elite, but the Steelers A tier?
Somewhere Gutey is laughing that Marcus made this vidoe the 2 weeks Quay Walker, after more then 2 years, FINALLY is kinda good
Also Rodgers did not want Humphrey
He had said IN HIS WORDS
He does not like left handed centers
I agree, better guy, but they were trying to sooth over Karen Rodgers
Lmfao
Please do most underrated/overrated contracts please 😊
You're wrong about the Packers GM not making moves. In 2019 he went out and got Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, and Zadarius Smith. Like those free agents turned the team around into 3 straight 13 win teams. He absolutely made big splash moves to load the team up for deep playoff moves.
If you're asking why he didnt sell the farm, because a lot of times it dosent work, and then the team is screwed. Look at the Saints since 2018
Best football content on the site
The video I didnt asked, but I absolutly NEED IT
It would be really cool to see DT rankings or another position group
The draft is only part of what makes GB a good front office. They know when to let guys walk a year before they fall off. The decision to let Rodgers walk and move on with Love was gold for the long term success of the franchise. Signing McKinney and Jacobs this off-season. There's a reason GB has been CONSISTENTLY a contender for 30+ years with only about 2 down years. ELITE front office.
Long TFG intro? Banger incoming
Levi O has been coming on for the Lions this year since being healthy and he's now a permanent starter
Levi would be a depth piece if not for the injuries, albeit a damn good one. That's what you want for his draft position.
@thestormofwar and look where the Lions are now with defensive Injuries 😅
I would probably put Poles in C instead of B as a Bears fan.
when you say you have faith in Andrew Barry, that’s very clear considering you downplayed one of the worst trades in subsequent contract offers of all time.
Great Bucs analysis
this is so dope
Vikings moving off of Kirk cousins raises them a full grade, and you didn’t even mention it lmao!
The packers have gone back to back hall of famers. Into a kid who looks like he is just as talented, that's generational success and it's unmatched in the league.
I LOVE YOU TFG
You did well on the Bucs
sometimes i lay awake at night and think about how the lions probably could have taken christian gonzalez at 12 then gibbs at 18
Finally the credit i look for in all your videos. #GOBUCS
Jesse bates n Bijan Robinson warrant the c grade
@nautgamingnautgaming9949 agree, but they're paying Cousins 2 years beyond what they needed. They are paying Elliss, Onyemata, McGary, Woerner, and Mooney wayyy to much. They should have $20-25M extra in cap space. That's a pass rusher. They traded a 4th to go get Orhorhoro -- who was viewed as a 3rd rounder -- instead of Johhny Newton, who was viewed as a 1st. Opportunity cost and efficiency are real metrics.
As a Colts fan, Ballard should be in C maybe even D he is a mediocre GM at best zero division titles in eight years
That Watson take is crazy he wanted say in the organization that was the year of qb empowerment lol they told him he would have coaching say
