      Benoit was a weak closer. Leyland should have let Max pitch a complete game. That grand slam doesn't happen if he does. I know, shoulda woulda coulda but the Tigers needed a closer. They didn't have anyone and that's on Dombrowski period. That and the Boston Strong mojo is the reason they lost this Series.

    Tigers fan here, this game is probably the most exciting and heartbreaking game/series (yes even more than getting swept in the World Series) ive ever watched. Up 5-0 about to be 2-0 going back to detroit with all the momentum, instead it becomes a dogfight every single game. Tigers bullpen had no business being in the postseason if I’m not mistaken the bullpen gave up more runs in the series than the starters combined

    • @waynetables6414
      @waynetables6414 2 роки тому

      As a Sox fan yeah this was a great series. The Red Sox were not as talented as the Tigers, especially from a starting pitching perspective.. But The Red Sox had good gameplans. Every game, the goal was to work and grind out every at bat to get the pitch count up and get the Tigers phenomenal starters out of the game to get to the Detroit bullpen. It's hard to look back at this team because it reminds me that ownership decided to pay David Price $200 million dollars instead of re-sign Jon Lester.

      @@JTmakesfunofdiabled-hs9kh Jon Lester was much cheaper and would have served the same role. He was a big-game pitcher with a lower ERA and more wins that year you are referring to. And Jon came up in the system and had 2 rings with Red Sox, he overcame Cancer with the Red Sox at a time my family was going through similar stuff.. it's not just about X's and O's. The Red Sox ownership treats human beings like dots on a graph.
      The current team (post firing Dombrowski) has no leaders, no continuity, and are being run on a shoestring budget while the owners focus on their other projects. They are the second most valuable team in baseball and they have like the 15th highest payroll. I haven't watched a single game this year, i'm not going to invest my time in a team that refuses to invest their money and charges the highest ticket prices in the league. The owners hired a scapegoat GM to be the fall-guy for their Boston Devil Rays operation they are currently running and ownership is completely resting on their laurels

    One of the most heartbreaking, if not the most heartbreaking Tiger loss in their history. The Boston strong marathon bombing mojo won this series. All of America, except for Detroit fans, were pulling for the Red Sox. I sure wish Leyland left Scherzer in the game. No fan interference on that Fielder foul ball play in the 9th? The Umpires didn't even talk about it? That's a game changer right there. Unbelievable. They umps were probably all Red Sox fans. Haha! Just kidding. I'm a little tired of the Red Sox fans and the east coast media bias in general. Red Sox got more attention for losing the 1967 Series than the Tigers did for winning the 68 Series.
    Ortiz hit more homers against the Tigers than any other team. Why? Dombrowski never got them a decent closer period.
    Funny how Dombrowski goes to the Red Sox and gets a closer by the name of Greg Kimbrall. If he did that for the Tigers they would have won a couple of World Series, if not more. The Tigers will be back one day and it'll be sweet. Hopefully they'll get to play another ALCS in Boston and get some silence Red Sox Nation. You win you win, you lose you lose. Red Sox deserved the Series win.
    We'll always have 35, 45, 68, and 84 Tiger fans!! R.I.P. Mr. Kaline.

      You're not alone in being tired of the nonstop media adulation of the Red Sox. Tigers seemed to be snake bit in big series in recent years. Would love to see them win the series again one of these years.

    • @waynetables6414
      @waynetables6414 2 роки тому

      Dombrowski was like a hired assassin the way Red Sox ownership used him. The reason they were able to add Craig Kimbrel was that they traded 4 highly touted prospects to get him. Dombrowski did the same thing to acquire Chris Sale, he traded Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech. The Red Sox had the best farm system in MLB when Dombrowski was hired and they had one of the worst farm systems in baseball when he was fired.
      Ultimately, as a Sox fan I feel bad for the way it played out because Dombrowski did exactly what he was hired to do. He won a World Series, raided the farm system, spent a ton of money, and made some great trades. He acquired Nathan Eovaldi for basically nothing and Nate has has been arguably the most important player on the Red Sox for years.
      My guess would be that Dombrowski was well aware the bullpen was awful in 2013 but he just didn't have the resources to do anything about it. Most teams don't allot a ton of resources to acquire a closer because the best ones cost a lot, and most closers have a short shelf life. Most teams find a closer from within their system. Also, baseball was a much different sport even just 10 years ago. Starting pitchers actually pitched past the 5th inning back then and you didn't have all these teams with loaded bullpens and pitching changes every two batters.
