FYI, they make a liquid rust remover. You can either wipe it on or let the item soak. It dissolves the rust down to the metal . Works great on all types of metal. When the rust is removed, you can clear coat the item and it won’t rust again. I use it to remove the rust from decorative tins. You can find it in the paint department.
What great advice. I have stayed away from those tins and other items because I honestly didn’t know you could remove the rust without harming the item. Thanks so much ❤️
I remember seeing tear catchers in movies. I bought a modern day one several years ago. I wouldn't doubt that's what it's for. They were a dramatic people, after all. ♡
That magazine fits you to a "T" ! You've curated quite the collection. 🙂 Unfortunately, I don't find things like that in my area. Wonderful video! TFS❤
You have a simply beautiful collection I love seeing it wish we could see it again in a future video. I do enjoy when you flip through the magazines and show your collections. Thank you for sharing. Lisa
I just found your channel through the mysterious UA-cam algorithm and I really love your content. I've watched the sewing notions video several times. I look forward to more of your videos!
I am painting a beautiful girl at her dressing table with a window & clawfoot bathtub in the background. Your items will help me decide what to include on the table. I thought a powder/puff and a perfume for sure, thank you for some inspiration.
So beautiful. Dressing table or vanity items are probably one of the 1st vintage items I had my eyes on when I was little and I still love it today. You have a wonderful collection!
@9:24 🤩💖 Some of these antique glass laydown bottles held Rose Of Otto Or Rose Attar oil. I love the little zipper cuts in the glass. Gorgeous!! It is so hard to find them with their original stoppers in them.
I am loving these videos, looking at the magazine and seeing the actual items. Thank you!! Keep them coming. You give me ideas on what to keep an eye out for 😍😍👍
What a beautiful collection you have. It is wonderful to see what lady's did in times past , the care they took to make everyday items special. Coty perfume bottles, the early ones were made in France, (in those days pre 1950s) you had to travel to France to purchase french perfume. Not like now. But you probably know that. Lol Ps the glassmaker was lalique.
I love all your vintage dressing table things, so beautiful! I have never even seen a button hook before, I always learn something when watching your videos. I have my Grandmas dressing table set, fancy hand mirror, comb and brush.I display it on my dresser next to my moms jewelry box.I got the idea from you to display the jewelry box open,it looks so nice with my Grandmas pearls hanging on it,and my other Grandmas handkerchiefs sitting inside.Grandma will be 101 in april.Thank you for such an interesting video!
Wow. Thank you for sharing that. You have a beautiful collection. I have my great aunts sterling silver hand mirror and brush and its beautiful. I love all yours but the bottles are my favorite especially the long teardrop bottle.
I just happebed " on your channel...i too collect vintage / antique Vanity..LOVELY dressing table items...i cant believe u found those...ty 4 tip!! Dif btween Neuvoe(sp) & Deco!!!!
I love your vanity pieces. The moth is wonderful. I love your collection of button-hooks. I love the jar with the glass lid. My mother liked the word primping...she used it often. I was always accused of primping when I was a teenager.
Love love seeing this. I just changed up my dresser and added all my Art Deco vanity trays and assorted containers. It certainly feels more decadent and I'm more inclined to use what's on my dresser now. I think I might need to get a copy of Victorian magazine, looks right up my street.
I have a clear vintage etched plexiglass purse from the 50s that was my mother's. I place beaded change purses and crystal rosary beads in it. Your container reminds me of it.
My great grandmother was so little. She had the legs of a chair in her bedroom cut down. She needed to be able to button up her shoes and most chairs were too tall for her.
I love this video. These items are of real interest to me. I have a vintage perfume bottle collection as well as mirrors, and jewelry caskets but it seems like I am NOW in need of button hooks and powder jars... thank you... great content.
Hi! Just found your channel today and love it. Your presentation is great. No weird stuff. Just good, interesting information. Will continue to watch. Thank you!
Yes!! I love Wright’s. This summer I tried the natural way too. With boiling water, salt, baking soda , and aluminum foil. That was actually a really fun science experiment to do with the kids.
I bought jewelry caskets like those. I got them for a good price as they had no linings. I relined them and gave them to my friends for Christmas. They loved them.
@@TarnishedTreasures1 Thank you! They were surprised. I found beautiful Jacquard blue fabric and braid for trim. It took some effort to make it look the way I wanted them to. They turned out nice if I say so myself! Lol!
It is amazing to me the prices they are asking on Etsy & EBay for the Ormolu Jewelry Caskets and the Satin gold ones as well! Some of the ones I looked at were $150!!! I'm going to be looking for those when I'm out shopping and you were smart to start your collection early. I believe remember when you found those first two little jars with the sterling tops. They are still favorites of mine because of their size and that you found them so in expensive. The powder jars 😵😵😵. Okay, the button hooks and the Victorian tear catcher are another fav of all times for me of the things you've found! 😂💙. I loved and enjoyed seeing all of these shown all together. Another wonderful video my Sweet baby 😘😘😘😘😘. And, of course I want you to give my little buddies a big hug for me! 💖🙋🏻
The cone shaped bottle that you said was for catching tears is probably a scent bottle but is missing its metal collar and lid like the other cut scent bottle you have. Over time, the adhesive that held these metal collars on sometimes started to deteriorate and just slid off. You're lucky you still have the dauber. Beautiful pieces!!!
I love that moth! I have some of these old button hooks and files that were either missing the implement or are in very bad shape. Would you consider doing a tutorial on how to make one? I'd love to display it with my collection. Another idea for you that I have seen is to cut the tip off to where it is hollow and make a tussy mussy out of it. Thanks for your great videos.
I’ve seen the tussy mussy idea. For the moth I just cut out wings and glued them on top. Then glue a pearl at the top. For the legs I bent gold paper clips. That’s it.
Hello from uk, Little blue box jewellery recommended you and I’m so glad she did. I’m a new subscriber because I love your videos. I used to collect lace, fabrics and ribbons but never did anything with them because I couldn’t bear to cut them up! It’s so nice to see how you’ve used your collections. The moth is very creative.
Loving these articles and seeing them in real life. The work on the lids is beautiful love the face. The gold coloured ones I wonder if you would call it silver gilt. After watching your sewing notions video a man called Clay Rammage had a video celebrating his first year on you tube. He talks about his good finds one of which is a Queen Anne ( I think) sewing hoop it's only small and they were on ebay for over $200. He has a link to the video where he talks about it (it's towards the end about the 7 mark from memory) one to look out for on your travels.
boudoir , derives from from the french verb ‘to pout or to sulk ‘ it was often called the ‘sulking room ‘ which I love . I painted my bedroom / dressing room ( sulking room pink) by farrow & Ball, I’m always searching for beautiful old dressing table antiques .you have some beautiful things .x
The small bottles at the end of this video were bottles to carry smelling salts or perfumes in your reticule, or ''purse'' when you went out. The purse would have been kept closed with drawstrings.
What a lovely collection! I love to see collections of these types of personal items; interesting to think about the ladies who used them!
That is an interesting thought!

I love Victorian collectibles. I have a few scent bottles and a button hook. Btw, the button hook is great for pulling up your boot zippers😊
That is a great idea. I have had a few boots that I have rubbed my fingers raw pulling the zippers up.

I love your collection. I’m in the middle of remodeling my bathroom. Now I want soMe of these things.
That would be so nice on some shelves or a vintage medicine case.
@Tarnished Treasures, you would love some of my vintage dressing table items I inherited from Ireland. Trust, you really would admire them.

I've heard of tear catchers being for widows. To literally show how much they had mourned. But I thought they were worn as necklaces.
The small bottles at the end of this video were bottles to carry smelling salts or perfumes in your reticule, or ''purse'' when you went out. The purse would have been kept closed with drawstrings.
I LOVE the makeup pieces!!! Do you have any ideas on when they’re from? ☺️
I would guess the 20’s-40’s but honestly I don’t know.
Love this collection but the whole button hook collection is too fabulous. Imagine the stories or the dresses behind those.
It’s incredible to think that they were used to fasten shoes and that they were important enough to engrave with initials.
