Very disco ball appearance for the woofer. Your Wharfedales are a clear winner over the B&W for me. The B&Ws sound ok, then you switch to the Wharfedales and you are hit with a whole lot more detail. B&Ws sound muddy in comparison.
very clear , piano- magical, high hats- super present but some how not siss-sy sibilant
Great review! And I always look forward to your great sense of humor. Thanks
Neither is better than the other, they are simply different, but the bass of B&W is really something special. I think they are worth what you paid for them.
Nice review. I own a pair of 607 S2 AE as pc speakers. Once in a while I plug them to my Hegel H390 and I am always blown away by the huge sound stage and how incredibly good voices and instruments sounds on these little speakers. They are so good that I've ordered now a pair 606 S2 AE. I can only recommend everybody to give the 600 series a chance.
Hiya….i have a pair of the 220’s….which I do like but I’ve been looking at the b&w’s for a while. Judging by your sound test the b&w’s sound a lot better( to my ears at least)
Cheers and happy new year
Ron
Happy new year 🎉
Wharfedale speakers sounded louder, cymbals sounded better more realistic
Happy New Year!!!
🎉🍻
personally i think the Wharfdale 220 speakers . my personal taste is mid range and treble .So i defiantly prefer the 220s. I had a pair of Wharfdale Dimond 10.1s and they where great too. Then i bought Dynaudio emit m10s what a difference they made. just a few weeks ago i upgraded to emit 20s . But im struggling with to much bass. Back to your test the B@ws are base and mid sounding so not for me . But you do have a great way of putting over your videos not over the top with a lot of jargon we do not need to know just a layman's opinion . Fantastic video.happy new year gerald clydach swansea
👍
The Wharfedales have a more even tonal balance, the B&W’s are more hot up top which makes the mids and midbbass sound recessed..
I have these in my living room. They're very lively and bassy and assertive. Music sounds dramatic on them. I can totally see how they wouldn't please someone looking for a speaker that sounds open, airy, and natural like the Wharfdales. The Wharfdales sounded very laid-back.
Nice m8,,the 607 are only a tenner more right now on Peter Tyson....S
end them back and get the Mission ZX2 £309..cant go wrong with Mission,,,,,,,,Happy New Year from Ireland Boi 🍻🥂🎊🎉🎇
Fantastic video as always, I was wondering what the model numbers are for your Rotel amp and CD player ?
RA 01 and RCD 02
Andrew Robinson as a big window behind his speaker setup haha wonderful room
Happy new year
🍻🎉
B&W is a quality company. These are really nice. I'm very happy with my two, yup TWO sets of DM-220s from the mid 1980s. Love those things, will own them till I die and pass them onto my niece or something. Shame they aren't made in the UK any more.
Peter Tyson is probably the best retailer I've ever dealt with. I only buy from them now.
Wharfedales all day! piano- magical, high hats- super present but some how not sis-ssy sibilant
b&w- piano sounds broken in half like 2 different instruments and the SISS SISSiSSsss, and the bass sounds big and blocky and obtuse
The Oberson's- ressessed, boomy, weird
I like the wharfdales
I thought the wharfdales sounded better, mids on the B&W's sounded like duvet had been wrapped around the mids
The neutrality and of the Wharfedale speakers is really super. You can listen to them for hours. For my ears, for sure the Wharfedales. Those B & W tweeters are screaming and the recessed mid range made them a hard pass for me.
I tried a pair of S1 607 a few years ago and they had the best bass of all the speakers I’ve tried, nice and tight. Midrange was great as was the imaging………but….the treble got a bit too much after longer listening sessions and they went back. I would be interested in trying the new S3’s though
Wharfedale!❤🤗
Think you need them more away from your wall 👍
Hi, great video, as you know b&w 606 now have S3 which improve , although I got 606 s2 anniversary but I still preferr my old dm602s3. . I see you like like your new whalfedales , I already repaired ti that video, I missed out on kef meta r3, they sound really good. Regards mark
These sold for $1400 here in Australia, I picked mine up for $850 due to the release of the S3's
Luckily we get a colour you don't get in the UK. Red Cherry which I think is the pick of the bunch.
As I'm using these for both music & home theatre use, I've got these hooked up to my NAD receiver which has DIRAC room correction. And they sound just sublime. I also got the matching centre HTM6 S2.
Are there better speakers out there? Of course there is. As good for the $$? That's really a subjective matter to your own personal taste & the type of music you mainly listen to.
Bowers and Wilkins headquarters is not far from me, and I did get to go and have a look, its a fab place run by some very clever people. They use a higher level of engineering and more exotic materials than most other brand at the price point, and some of the expensive stuff eventually trickles down to the more affordable speakers. So I wanna love them so much, but every pair i have ever owned get sold on, they sound great initially loads of bass, pin sharp treble. But like brain freeze when eating an ice cream, slowly the listening fatigue creeps up on me and i find myself sitting down for an hour of listening and thats enough, where by something like a warfdale I could listen to all evening. So your right about marmite, some people swear by them, for others it's a no.
Kudos on the stands, but you have them too close to the surrounding walls. The Dali's are also too close to the wall behind them. ..Get those B&W's away from the walls, pull out the plugs and point them right and you'll be exceptionally pleased with the results.
The Dali's bass was tighter, the B&W"s bass sounded a bit woolly.
I had warfdale denton 80th on home demo and they were shite no they didn't work in my room only 10 foot square so I tried diamond 9.1 and they were great tried bw 606s2 to fatiguing a bright treble i now use proac tablet and they are terrific in a small room sealed box no port
Wharfies have the fuller range as opposed to the Bowers...I think an Amp with a bit more sizzle would change things up a bit...but yeah ..Good Demo none the less !
The Wharfdale sounds more open but has less bass---the B&W sounds more bass-y but is less open. So depending on what you prefer, it could be a tie. I'd personally go with the Wharfdale then add a small sub. Cheers!
I have exactly the same amp and CD player as you, with some older B&W speakers, I see you’ve added a DAC there, how did you do that? Is it in between the CD player and the amp?
That's the Fosi Audio P3 preamp. It's connected to the amp via RCA.
The important thing with Bowers and Wilkins speakers and anybody that's lived with a pair Of b&w can tell you that whether they sound good or bad, is all dependent upon associated equipment, and in my opinion more so then any brand of speakers I've ever used.
In my opinion they sound at their best when used with warmer electronics, if you put them with a bright amplifier they're going to sound terrible and they're going to sound really harsh and ear bleedingly bright, but pair them with something like Marantz or NAD or anything that has a warmer bent to it and you're in heaven.
IMO much prefer the Wharfedales to the Bowers and Wilkins but, they sounded better against the Dali Oberons. Probably due to better positioning.
The B & W are more deeper in the bass, also punch beautifully. I like it better.
You are NOT
a dickhead..
I 100% agree
to ditching the biwiring option and use the savings to put more quality into the crossover circuit. 👍
606 sound good Dali sound best. 🎉
Love my spektor 2s ,,,dali is not spoken as much as it deserves
What amp do you recommend for 606?
B&W sounds like it's V-shaped equalized, Wharfedale sounds more natural. I am in favor of not squeezing the bass out of the main speakers, but using a separate subwoofer for it, so that the bass does not affect the transparency of the mids and highs.
B&W over the wharfedales. Daki over the B&W, but they’re not in the same class. I own the B&W’s. Love them!
Wharfdale have it for me more lively 👍
If you put rubbish in you get rubbish out very simple. They sound fantastic on my marantz system 😊
Spec-wise they are 'bad' speakers in terms of frequency response, but a lot of high-end speakers have a neutral frequency response and might also sound a bit too bright for people who prefer bass and lower mid punch to clinical fidelity. By experimentation, I've solved this problem for badly recorded rock music by using an unusual and not at all recommended set-up. Try the Oberon 5's and the B&W's both at the same time by hooking up a 2nd amp in the chain, both set ups using the same source. Use the rec-out on your primary amp to feed the 2nd amp via one of the analogue line-ins. Set each system separately to your preferred listening volume. Set the sub volume to the speaker pair that need it more. Then play everything at the same time. If you want more detail, adjust the brighter set up with a pinch of extra volume. For less brightness pump up the other amp. Experiment, have fun. Enjoy the extra fullness you get with this set up. It won't sound much louder - only about a 3db gain. Ignore purists who say it will sound like a mess. If you just want the 2nd system to be heard, set the primary amp volume to zero - it will continue to pass on the signal via rec-out. Or you can use a 2nd source directly plugged into the 2nd amp when you don't wish to listen to the first system, etc. To quote Stalin - quantity has a quality all of its own, lol. Plus, if you like to listen to music very loudly, this set up will help make your amps work less hard for cleaner results. It will sound like a much more expensive system at a fraction of the cost.
Um no 😂
Wharf dales could listen to all day, the Bowers sounded uncomfortable on the ears.
That tweeter is to much.
Is it worth bridging the Aiyima A07 MAX? You didn't mentioned that at all
I no longer have them, I only had them on loan. They would've been good to try in them
That's why wrfs 220s won so many awards.Far better sound than b&w.More spacious sound, more open/clear sound with tight bass.B&w boomy sound like cheap speaker with recessed mid range.V Curve speaker (bass-treble),no mids at all.
Have you tried the B&Ws with your marantz pm6007 amp? Supposed to be the ideal pairing according to both manufacturers.
I saw a pair white oak going for £329 at richer sounds and almost pulled the trigger.
I no longer own the PM6007 but the Marantz Cinema 70S I used in the video has a very similar sound when in stereo mode.
The 606's sounded fantastic. i currently own the wharfdales. 606's better in my opinion.
Almost sounds like theres a subwoofer on with the B&W
Sound the same to me coming out of my iPad speakers….
The bass is far cleaner on the B&W's
8:53 😂 very true
You know when all these reviews measure speakers and say stuff like you can’t sit 2 degree below or above tweeter or your hifi will sound like a Bluetooth Poundland speaker 😂
Absolute bull 💩
Andrew Robinson was right. Bright junk. You even toed them in.
Wharfedales sounded better for me.
B@&w sound better to me
The B&W's have better bass.
Wharfdale wins
Bought with high hopes. Very disappointed.
I had them for a few weeks, awful. You have no chance of eq.
