It’s agony being in the North and watching everyone getting ready knowing I can’t even think about starting seeds yet lol but I have planned all my garden plots and started my check list of what I need this year. Love and prayers from Canada 🇨🇦 🙏
I feel you! I started my pepper plants this week since I have a cold frame outside and I'll be putting them under there sooner than the last frost, but for the rest Im just so impatient for Spring to come around here haha
Great reminders! And, although I dream of one day having a greenhouse, I echo what you said that one is not necessary for starting seeds! I've been starting mine inside for many years, and last year was the first year that my entire garden was started from seed, without needing to purchase replacement plants from a nursery. That was a huge accomplishment for me, and I'm hoping to be able to do that again this year! One thing I would add to the items to check is the viability of seeds, if people have older seeds. For those who don't know how to do that, put several seeds inside a paper towel, spray with water, and place in a ziplock bag. If they sprout, you'll know the seeds are good to plant. I learned this from Luke at Migardener last year.
My garden was the all planted form seed this year too except some marigolds I purchased, as the ones I tried to grow from seeds that I ordered of Amazon turned out to be like six feet tall lmao 🤣 I had to buy some smaller ones to intermingle lol
Because of you I have bought zinnas.. delilahs... and I am in love. I planted them way to late but they bloomed way late too. I couldn't believe how long the zinnas bloomed. And they produce so many flowers on one plant.. I've never planted flowers except for marigolds to keep the bugs away. I wont be doing a garden this year. It was something my husband and I loved to do together. He committed suicide in june last year and it just wont be the same. But I hope your new farm brings you many blessings. Keep hoping and keep dreaming. 😊😊
You're so right about having an organized space and how it helps to have a clean area to work in. Personally, that also clears up the space in my head so I will really want to start seeds. Otherwise, I just keep watching videos of other people starting their seeds instead of doing it myself 😇 🙈
I'm in south-central Indiana and I always start some seeds in 'poor man's greenhouses' ( milk jugs and other containers) this time of year. Then, in late February, and early March I start seeds in trays Under grow lights and heat mats. I try to garden all year round ( also grow fall crops ). I am a gardening addict lol. Hopefully gonna have a 'true' greenhouse this year 🙏 loving your inspiring videos
I was cracking UP, when you said that flower sale was the most intense 5 mins of your life. I picture y’all standing around looking like the dang stock market 🤣. I love it, I am same way with chickens and eggs, us farmers are a special type of crazy 😆🥰
We have a lot of our seeds already and plan on getting more as we are excited about getting ours started as well. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us, but also thank you for the encouragement, energy & excitement that flows from you though your videos to your audience! Tell Nathan I said Howdy! GOD BLESS YALL 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇👍🏻❤️
Last year, due to health considerations, I didn't get my plants in the ground until June. Thankfully, I live in zone 6, so I have a long enough growing season that I was still able to have a good harvest of tomatoes and even was able to freeze some for use this winter.
Thank you for always reminding us that whatever we are gardening, or however much we are gardening, that it's great. In this video you reminded me that even though the talk this week on youtube is about seed prep and seed starting, in Chicago it's just too early and nobody is running behind! :) That gardening is meant to be joyfull.. all at our own pace, and that everyone's pace is ok.
Lol! I have a 15+ year old mama cat 🐈 that took up residence in my greenhouse last fall. I did not have the heart to put her out when it was time to close the greenhouse up for the winter 🥶. So my sweet tender hearted husband bought a kitty/doggie door and installed it. Now my problem is, it’s time to clean out and get ready to start seeds and I have 1-3 kitties that think it’s their home. I told John he needed to buy another kitty door and install it in one of the other sheds and move mama over there. The things I do for my fur babies. Blessings y’all
I have started my tomatoes already, but this is the first year I am doing it right when my zone calls for. Years past I waited your you and or Jess to do them and finally realized that I am 2 zones higher(9a) and I should start them sooner. Maybe this year I will get better results since they maybe not trying to bloom in the height of summer.
I'm Zone 9 also and I started tomatoes already! I started them waayyy too late last year and it wasn't the best tomato year! Hopefully this year brings you many delicious tomatoes!
@@stephaniesanchez676 I’m also in zone 9. Houston tx. And I’ve been having a hard time deciding when to start. According to the seed packs I have I’m suppose to start indoors around march. Can y’all help 😔 I would really appreciate it.
@@claudiaramos7945 I think you're supposed to start 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. If your last frost date is in March (like me), I believe it's safe to start your seeds indoors already!
Hey y'all, Jill look at the door that will not close. There is a threshold plate with a couple screws you may need to screw a few of them down to allow the door to close. The plate sneaks up over time. I love how you are showing folks what making, having and using greenhouse of garden checklist. I see frost on the window and snow on the ground and thermometer that says 28 F today It helps me put my brakes on. I have started herbs indoors in my new closet seeding and seedling transplantation. Shelves reflective on the walls and grow lights. I'm excited for 2022 garden!!
I am so freaking excited to watch your growing season this year. Last year you and Jess were so busy during the height of harvest season that I feel like we lost out on so much amazing content that I thrive on in the winter (no time to watch in summer and fall). But this is getting me giddy. I am ready and here for it!
Lol, “You are not too late!” *Look of confusion passes my face as I look out the window at literal feet of blowing snow until I realize what zone you are in*. I am in zone 4 and my last frost date is estimated to be May 17. I can’t start even my earliest seeds until about April!
Jill Thank you SO much for the reassurance of its ok to let someone be a step ahead. I NEEDED THAT. a friend already started her seeds here near me but she's also in a different situation and i have to keep telling myself im OK. so thank you for that reminder and encouragement.
I generally use a couple of 72 cells and 12 yogurt cups in an aluminum baking pan ( 3 shelves) in my garage with heat mats and grow lights. It's just my hubby and I so it's been enough, but would love to have a real greenhouse. I'm hopeful for that this year
That hot coco looks awesome! Thanks for reminder on checklist. I have been running out and grabbing 2020 clearance deals because reading all over fertilizer organic or not about to hit all time highs. Been gobbling up frozen bags soil as well as anything organic on sale. If you all have an aldi and need a space heater go check it out. They normally have it in the Aldi's finds section. Loved your point just because others are starting doesn't mean your late. Look at your last frost date & realize not everyone can be growing yet. Heck just starting winter sow now.

Yes! It was helpful, and yea I started onion seeds 2 weeks ago. I live south of you. We ARE gonna make it a beautiful growing year. Thank you for taking the time to share.
You should build a cute little storage shed off to the side of that window green house in the corner of the garden to store your supplies. The heat and UV in the greenhouse will weaken and destroy plastic stuff fast.
Here in cold CO if I start before March I will have mature plants on my counter waiting for May - but sometimes I get too excited anyway on winter days when the sun is shining

Maybe put a little heater in there like Jess always had. That would help with the cold. I wish i could put a little heater in mine but being that it is the plastic cattle panel kind, I think that I will just start my seeds indoors instead of using that for seed starting. I wish i had a glass one. Maybe some day, we can build a glass green house:) Everything is looking good there:)
