I use lemon balm only and make strong sun tea. Put it in aprayer ( after straining) I live in mosquito heaven and it works.
The cayenne sounds scary. It would be way to easy to transfer from arm or hands to eyes.
My Mayan remedy I
Works great. Cheap bottle of Mexican vanilla put half bottle in a misting sprayer. Add the rest of the bottle with water. Shake From an American living in Belize. I got it lovely neighbor
😊 6:14 😊
Great idea
The absolute best bug repellant is Nessmuck's bug dope. The recipe can be found over at the Gray Bearded Green Berett's channel. All you need is litterally a few drops and an 8oz batch will last you two or three years. It works for all bugs and is applied to your clothes, shoes or surrounding materials such as tent material, surrounding plants or strips of cloth hung about. Highly reccomend.
Thanks so much 😊
I ❤ the mosquito bits. They kill fungus gnats on houseplants also. Directions are on the package. I use a nylon/pantyhose from dollar tree to put the bits in the water so I don't have to strain them out, just easier. Let it sit overnight and then I add some to my watering can when I do my houseplants. Now I have a natural, good smelling bug spray to use when outside. Thank you !
You can use Dr. Bronners Castile soap instead of Dawn.
Or Zote. 👍🧓
Excellent
Use a lavender scented mist or lotion on you. It repels moths, fleas, flies. Add a little lavender essential oil to and unscented lotion and you are ready to go.
I lave lavender plants all over my yard.
This might not interest you but I add a few drops of EO to my rinse water in my carpet shampoo tank. Makes the house smell nice too.
Thanks for the tip!
@@ZenGardenOasis. Your welcome.
Lemon eucalyptus works amazingly well..
Cinnamon is also a very good mosquito reppelent. I tried just dusting powder on myclothes and it worked fairly well. I decided to buy cinnamon oil and i was able to do my outdoor evening chores almost mosquito free. Ive tried so many natural skeeter sprays and boy oh boy they only seem to work for 20 min. But cinnamon oil worked the entire evening. 💃💃💃

Your mint looks so lush.
I’ve got two little pots from the super market that I’m grooming for my annual mint julep on July 4th!
You could have chopped those herbs down a bit, before adding to the blender. It's not the bulk that causes issues, but the length of the fibres.
You can also use Castile soap instead of dawn
Another informative clear video, thank you so much.
Thanks, I’m going to try it! Lemon balm and mint have taken over my garden, might was well put it to good use !
I would use 2C of Witch Hazel instead of 2C of more H20 in the soak overnight step. Because it contains alcohol which will help draw out more essential oils from the leaves pulp into the liquid. 🧓
Dryer sheets. I worked in an insect museum and they showed us a video with a mattress full of bed bugs. A dryer sheet was placed on the bed and the bugs took off. It doesn't kill them, but it's a repellent. I put dryer sheets in my sneakers and in my pockets and I don't get bitten. I've used many different brands and never had a problem.
i do a similar thing but with catnip added and i use a distillation setup to extract the essential oils then mix and dilute with filtered or rain water.
Suggestion:
. Use a couple of clothespins to hold the bag so you don't have to work so hard at it.
Very well done. Thank you👍👍
So nice of you
Things to probably avoid: topical use of lavender and tea tree oils has been linked with male hormone imbalance.
Thanks for sharing!😊
You are so welcome!
I just found your site today & I'm a new subscriber. Thanks so much for some truly educational videos. I'm making the fertilizer today!! I had been just adding the powdered egg shells to the dirt around my tomatoes & cukes because I love how crispy the cukes stay using calcium. 💝💝💝
me too!!! YAY
Thanks greatly…cheers
instead of Dawn which has chemicals, use aloe vera juice.
McCormick vanilla extract is best. Mosquito’s and gnats don’t like it. As a business owner I have lots of lake home customers and tell everyone about this so ppl can enjoy the outdoors either work around the house or have a beer by the fire.
How much and how to apply it? On the face too?
@@TheQueensWish greetings! All you need is to apply the extract on your finger tip several times and apply on the back and in front of your neck, underneath your chin then forehead, tips of the ears and cheeks. If your arms and hands are exposed then apply there as well. Each finger tip application covers well. The vanilla scent will be around for bit but smells like grandma’s kitchen not DEET.
Living in Louisiana where the mosquitoes are bigger than hummingbirds, we use vit B1. It's what the guys take that work out on the oil rigs. The mosquito bites 24/7 & 365 days a yr!
@@Stardust_4300 hello! Looks like our states have something in common. Here the mosquitoes are called “The State Bird” lol
@@Stardust_4300Vit B1 is very interesting to prevent bug bites. You take it by mouth or apply it?
People used to swear by Avon Skin so Soft. Which I was allergic to.
It repels people too because it stinks so bad.
I hate that stuff… my mum still uses it… to me it just reeks to high heaven! But it does work… I just can’t stand the smell… if it was the only thing available to me, I would use it lol….
@@ZippedUpKitz I agree
Haha I still have some from my mom a long time ago in the same bottle and ironically I was just thinking about skin so soft instead of using OFF spray .
Hi
Maybe instead of pepper you should use cinnamon ... js
Soap makes water wetter
...because science!
Soap releases the surface tension of water. No more "beading".
Where can I find those bags?
Thanks
You can’t make it without those plants
Eould it last longer if you added alcohol?
Could cosmetic glycerin be used instead of soap?
The only thing i have found to keep those very annoying gnats away is a natural bug repellent incense. I even carry a lit stick when taking my walks.
might be easier if you don't have a blender to buy pure essential oils instead of the plants and will likely be shelf stable.
Essential oils are expensive
Alittle goes a long way with essential oils go a very long way and last indefinitely stored in a cool dark place.
Yep…. I make something using Peppermint, lemongrass, and clove Bud essential oils…. I spray it on me and I get zero bites from mosquitos, flies, chiggers and those bloody gnats… it is also great to spray around the entrance to your tent if you like to go camping…. It keeps the spiders and other creep crawlies away!
Costs little to nothing when getting it out of your own garden - I am planting in my garden cayenne peppers, mint, spearmint, lemon balm, and rosemary
I use a few drops of lemongrass EO in my spray hand sanitizer and I use that on my arms when I garden and I don't have any issues with mosquitos or any other biting bugs. It's not that expensive at all - the EOs don't have to be organic in order for them to work. And lemongrass has the same scent as citronella and works exactly the same. 👍🏾👍🏾
Does it work on horse flies???
Avon’s Skin So Soft works great.
I'm 71 & grew up using that. I didn't know they still made it!!! Thanks, because that's all you need for mosquitos period. They hate it for sure 😊
Beauty berry. The leaves tincture are better than deet
I have a Beauty berry bush, I'll have to try that, thanks!
@tilly9749 please look up how 2do. I plan on planting these bushes on my farm in Philippines.
Would this work with flies?
Would adding alchohol increase shelf life?
I don’t think the addition of alcohol will increase the shelf life because the evaporation of essential oils over time make it less effective as a repellent.
I use that “Off” mosquitos repellent to kill some weeds
Yes, I watched a short video where the person demonstrates how applying OFF kills plants😮
I have mint and rosemary and citronella. I wonder if the citronella is ok for this or just go with the first 2.
Citronella can burn your skin.
@@christopherpushee4509hmm … I use citronella essential oil directly on my skin without any issues.
QUESTION: What is the first "mint" you clipped?
I'm guessing " Peppermint"??
Yes… it’s peppermint …
Correct
You can try wearing a dragon fly pin on your shirt or jacket. Seems to be working for me
Interesting idea. Now that you say that I’m wondering if a t shirt with dragonfly’s all over would work.
When you say mint do you mean peppermint?
I have 4 types of mint and like to mix it up.
That dish soap is not regular it has alcohol in it
So what kind of mint is the first ingredient? You only called it “mint” and then the second ingredient was spearmint.
It’s just plain mint… aka peppermint… :)
@@ZippedUpKitzI thought peppermint was the second ingredient.
@@ZippedUpKitzMy error! The second was spearmint.
@@Kjt853 no problem :) we all make boo boos from time to time…..
Correct
Dawn dish detergent is not organic.
Taste delish
we used skin so soft and 90% rubbing alcohol spray. mist yourself completely.
Not everyone likes the smell of skin so soft.
I wouldn't trust anything from Amy zon....just sayin
