The painter wasn't that good. When painting a door two different colours, you have one face and one edge in one colour and the other face and edge in a different colour.
EG: when opening a door inwards, that hinge edge should match the face. On the inside of the door if in a different colour should match the opening face.
You don't paint two edges and one face in one colour and the outside face painted different.
