Damn, this guy is on-point. Really seems to be able to grasp and describe different philosophies without falling into opinion and dogma. Super nice to hear someone with intellectual flexibility!

Also on the topic of no-thing-ness, it’s great to hear him describe that the east considers it a positive. The way I have experienced it in a positive way could be described as the blissfulness and painlessness that we all experience every night in deep sleep. What’s so bad about that, right? No matter how bad our suffering is, as soon as the mind is relaxed and empty, free of concepts and identity, there is just happiness and peace.
This could be described as being in the garden of Eden before eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The knowledge of good and evil is the thinking mind dissecting the world into parts and pieces, having preferences and opinions rather than being in a blissful, transpersonal state of Eden-like Awareness.
Stillness is something that many western philosophers haven’t explored, but I would hope that pointing out the lack of pain and preference in deep, blissful sleep would help to make them wonder if the nothingness they’re afraid of is actually Eden, and the duality created by thought itself is what casts us out of “heaven.”

Epicurean thought, at its best, is similar to what you're describing. There's a Western thread to pull on. It's largely forgotten but is a base for other western schools of philosophy.

"Even if there were no people, there would still be evil."???? This is when you know Vervaeke needs to start listening to more Jordan Peterson.
