Michelle has always carried herself with such authenticity and grace. She is truly an inspiration.
I SO wanted Michelle to win the GOLD!! She still gets emotional when speaking about the sport she loves.
She may not have won an Olympic Gold. She was more than a medal . She is by far one of the most honorable, lives with integrity, humility, and her honor and grace that is what she is inside. She taught us that with hard work, the sky is the limit. Tara Lipinski will never have the scruples that Michelle Kwan has as a person day by day. She lives her honor, truth, resilience and her heart is her greatest asset.
@@desireeishope BINGO, MK never needed that medal, her legacy is secured, but please stop all the Tara hate, Tara skated out of her skin in Nagano and was a ferocious competitor for Michelle. When they competed against each other, they elevated the sports to new heights during the last Golden age of Figure Skating.
So interesting; Michelle was so honest with her skating and brought us so far into her world, into her being, that when she didn't win gold, it hurt. To this day, I STILL HURT, and I'm not even Michelle Kwan. That's how much her skating touched me. From her Salome program onward, she revolutionized what it meant to be an "artistic" figure skater. And who could forget those pressure-filled moments where she had to deliver; and she did! When I used to have big days coming up as a journalist (election coverage, etc.) I had to be "on." So, I watched Michelle Kwan performances the night before, hoping her nerves of steel would rub off onto me through the screen. She was a motivating force then, and even more so today. We love you Michelle!!!!!!!

Oh Michelle! The true winner of the 1998 Olympic Gold. You are such a legend - you are bigger than any competition or medal. Thank you for all you gave to the sport and the fans.
She definitely got Munsoned. The very example why Laird Hamilton never did competitions. He didn't want to leave is art in the hands of others to judge.

I was sad when she wasn't able to achieve a gold medal during her Olympics...but when I reflect and look back...it doesn't really matter in that she inspired so many people on and off the ice. Plus a silver and bronze medal are impeccable achievements...and she would have probably medaled in 06 if she didn't have to withdraw because of an injury. I don't think many people realize how good Kwan was. It is nice to see her now and reflect on all that her family sacrificed for her to live her dream. Much love to you, Michelle! :)

I remember michelle Kwan being celebrated by the country in figure skating, she was a champion and her race was never an issue. She was was held with such high regard simply based on her merit, that was great to see.

I have always loved Michelle Kwan since I was super little. She will always hold a special place in my heart.
Michelle Kwan was figure skating when I was growing up. She was skilled, masterful, the artistry she brought to the sport and she was a champion, celebrated and that was great to see as an asian american.
This makes me love her even more! So inspiring!

I use to watch her when I was younger
I don't think I really grew up looking for an Asian American role model... but if it were anyone, it was Michelle Kwan in the 1998 Olympics. It was the first time I saw a person that was both Asian and American, performing, competing in the very top tier of their specialization. She was one of the OGs in Asian American representation.

What an amazing, inspiring, and classy lady. Michelle is still my favorite athlete today. I look forward to seeing more great things from her in the future!

out of all the skaters in the history of the sport there was no one better than Michelle Kwan on and off the ice. I saw one of her performances with total absolute perfection and this performance was outstandingly beautiful as she is.

Even with her beautiful artistry. There is no way she can even compete with all the quads the russians are throwing but she can compete in the classics competitions for older skaters not that i'm calling her old i admire her spirit and determination she will alwsys be an olympic gold medalist because she got ripped off in 1988 tje one that won was too young to be there

I will always love Michelle kwan she was always my favorite an she should have won the gold medal she deserves it more then the one that won let me tell you you Michelle she won a lot of competition world championships,she won a lot of competitions overs sea and won a lot competitions and she has all the medals too proof it the other one just went too the Olympics an won the medal an that was it after that she quit no more competition of any kind she more notice now cause her an Johnny weird r announcers for figure skating
I thought that too get into the Olympics u had too win some competition like world's I think u gave too give through a couple of competition and be in the top 10 too win the other skater didn't compete at all and she wins the medal cause she did a triple flip about double come on in know deep in my heart that gold medal belong too Michelle, ,,,,,,a lease she help with charity's did a lot of public speaking Sara did nothing too earn that medal nothing look it up oh (Sara luspinki ) sorry but this is how I feel.
it's TARA not Sara. And while nobody will deny Michelle is a far superior skater, who has impacted figure skating much much more, Michelle did not deserve the gold that day.
On that day, the competition was fierce. Michelle skated first, she was VERY NERVOUS, made mistakes, she had so much to lose. Tara had nothing to lose, young, not the favorite, underdog, not expected to win, but she skated and enjoyed the moment. It was a good day for her and a disaster for Michelle. I felt so bad for Michelle, I felt the Gold was snatched out of her by Tara. Tara never make a name for herself. Michelle is still love by the figure skating fan.

I have learned figure skating since I was 5 and I want to be on the Olympic when I grow up too! Michelle is AWESOME!

The ISU raised the age limit to 17 NOW, which means Tara Lipinski didn't deserve to win and she should go to the kid's Olympics. (≧ω≦)/
Sarah Hughes was lucky to win the 2002 Olympics, because the other better skaters like Michelle and Irina made mistakes. (≧ω≦)/ It's a accident that Sarah won.
