Singer, songwriter, producer and composer Rob Bolland was born on April 17, 1955 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He already developped his interest for music from an early age. Together with his brother Ferdi he did form the duo Bolland & Bolland. Under that name they released singles such as “Wait For The Sun”, “Summer Of ’71”, “Spaceman”, “You’re In The Army Now”, “Heaven Can Wait”, “Ten American Girls” and many others.
They also wrote and produced tracks for Dutch acts such as Goddess, WOW and B.E.D. But they are mostly famous for their tracks for the late Austrian singer Falco. For this week’s vlog I sat down with Rob Bolland to ask him about the story behind “Rock Me Amadeus”, a track from Falco which became a worldwide hit in the mid 80s.
Fun fact: "Rock Me Amadeus" was the very first record Tiësto ever bought!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

What is your favorite Falco track?
Junge Roemer ☝😄
Rock me Amadeus, rock-rock-rock me Amadeus.
My favorite Bolland & Bolland tracks are "UFO (We are not alone)" and "You're in the army now" (covered by Status Quo). And Spaceman!
Naked
Jeanny, and Rock me Amadeus, of course 😮😅😊
I would sit in front of my record player with headphones on and listen to Rock Me Amadeus 10 times in a row. I loved it. Still do.
He still looks amazing considering his health. Great stories too!
Yes, very happy he took the time to sit down with me for these interviews. He has so many great stories, loved listening to them, what a legend!
Geweldig verhaal. Prachtig!
Ja mooi he? Oops! ;-)
Junge Roemer and Nur mit dir are my favorites right now.
Fantastic interview with one of the great minds behind the creation of an '80s icon in Rock Me Amadeus!
Been a Falco fan since '82 with the release of the amazing Einzelhaft which I picked up in the import section of Tower Records.
Falco 3 was a beautifully produced album with many great tracks, not least of which is RMA, but something about Nothing Sweeter than Arabia has always stuck with me all these years.
Looking forward to the upcoming interviews with Mr. Bolland, this was a joy to watch! 👍
Thank you so much!!!
@@muzikxpress You are very welcome sir!
By the way, I appreciated hearing Nothing Sweeter than Arabia playing in the background during the later part of the interview, which is why I mentioned it. It's such a great song!
Love Falco and rock me amadeus it's my go-to karaoke 🎤 jam. The American 12 inch edit remix is where it's at!!
Absolute hit writers and producers. I've heard stories about that Falco could be hard to work with and about problematic use of alcohol... Falco being too drunk to stand up at first and initially refusing to record confirms that a bit... And then Rock Me Amadeus becomes his biggest hit, wow. Looking forward to more Bolland stories, The Domino Theory is a great album!
Juno 60 yes! I always wondered. Enya and eurythmics favourite. Ricky gervais said he used it for his old 80s band and a-ha take on me
The sound of the 80s hehe
Fantastic interview! One of my favourite 80s tracks. I remember as a kid trying to learn how to play the synth riff from that track!
Thanks so much! You should do a dance / trance remix of Rock Me Amadeus, haha
Twan, gaaf interview!
My uncle vadim was friends with falco in cabarete Dominican Republic , I was like 6 years old I think that time but I remember my uncle mentioning to me his name years later , they drank some beers for sure RIP
Huge Falco / Bolland fan since the beginning . Thanks a lot for sharing 🎉🎉
Salieri maxi single aka MASTERPIECE!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!!!
That was so informative and fascinating to watch.
Thank you so much!
Thank you too! There’s 3 more interviews with Rob coming up soon BTW 😉
Fantastische interview. Dankje!
Dank je wel!!
Ik ben erg benieuwd!
Thanks for the great interview! I think he thought you might be using the pineapple pizza question to hypnotize him into giving up his credit card number! 😀
Haha! And thank you too, glad you enjoyed it!
18:36 "The Drum" is another great tune. would love to hear the story behind that one
Great track for sure! But no new interviews with Rob in the works tbh, I have a LOT of stuff I'm working on right now, so much ideas, so little time / so little budget hehe (Muzikxpress is just a hobby for me FYI)
Dank Rob🙏🏼
dank je Devin!
THIS IS AMAZING!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH ROB FOR THE INSIGHT INTO THE CLASSIC _ THE SALIERI 12 MIX THE 1ST FIRST 12 INCH I EVER BOUGHT THEN I CAME ACROSS ALL THE OTHER MIXES, ROB YOUR A STAR !!!
Geweldig interview Twan, ik heb genoten!!
Dank je wel!! Heel blij mee!
THEEE Greatest pop song EVER!!!! - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS
Helemaal geweldig.
Dank je wel!
This is absolutely amazing what a legend he is! Thanks for making this interview. 👍🏼🙌🏼
Thanks so much! And.... more to come ;-)
Great interview! I really enjoyed the sax player story! Thanks for this document!
Thank you Aaron!!
Although he was a little vague on whether or not the sax player was successful in his attempt to get royalties! 🙂
Nice Work
Rock me Amadeus was hit in Mexico.I used to listen on radio stations.
Wo(w)nderful. I lost the count they mention the great composer Amadeus Mozart
Canadian version was bestest. No any unnecessary piece. Every beat-square charged by wild energy and tear. Absolutely fabulous arrangement. Not too long, not too short. Just amazing optimal equilibrium. Bravo to unknown Canadian DJ for incredible work.
One love forever ❤
With best wishes, wildest Russian Falco's / Bollands music fan ever!! ❤❤❤❤
You must check out the French radio promo at the time called "Special Radio Salieri Version", it's even better !! It was so rare that I recreated it in 2009 as "Topher's Recreated Salieri Radio Edit" but it was finally re-released on digital 2 or 3 years ago. Definitely the best 7" edit of the brilliant Salieri Mix. 😊
@@topheecheesecake interesting. I will try. Thanks for info, bro
Rock Me Amadeus en Jeanny👍👍
Geweldige track toendertijd
Zeker weten!!
Technically surprising good quality from Austria
And The Netherlands 😉
jeanny :)
Where and in which version did he say “fuck me Amadeus”
Pineapple on pizza is great with ham, cheese and maybe onions too, that's about it. However I don't believe that pineapples are good for you, so don't feel like you are missing out on something wholesome, if you are not into it.
Deustcher weh ichte mane'
Salieri Mix🤮
The Original is the best.
ROCK ME AMADEUS AND JENNY. HOW CAN I SEE THE ENGLISH LYRICS? FALCO'S PERFORMANCE VIDEO OF ROCK ME AMADEUS VERY ENTERTAINING AND ENJOYABLE. THANK YOU FOR THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT FALCO HAD PASSED. I AM ONE OF THE OLD ONES FROM U.S.A. WE DANCED TO IT. GREAT FUNNY TIME. WHAT IS HE SAYING. COOL TO SEE HIM.
Falco did pass away in a car crash in 1998. This interview is with writer / producer Rob Bolland, not Falco 😉
@@muzikxpress thank you.
Very great work then to Rob I loved the movie Amadeus and felt your song captures a young, spirited Amadeus. Just I loved the whole connection. I love music and totally amazed by people who can put this beauty together. THANK YOU.
