I actually recommend using food colouring for these tumblers as it is cost-effective and safe. I did have a few people asked me what happens if you use alcohol ink and this is the result of that. Please use your own discretion when using inks and dyes.
    List of supplies:
    - Hollow wall tumbler
    -drill with a bit 1/4" - 5/16" (I used a 5/16" drill bit)
    - water
    - mica powder is silver
    -Food coloring in blue
-Tape or glue dots or furniture -bumper for sealing
    -UV resin
    -Uv light
    - Or a glue gun for sealing

As always with any resin be sure to wear gloves and use in a well ventilated area with a mask

I love your tutorials! I would use food coloring instead of alcohol inks. Alcohol inks fade over time unless they are protected from the UV light of the sun.

Good to know. I prefer using food coloring but have had so many people ask if alcohol ink will work. It will but for what they cost I'm not certain why people want to waste them. Food colouring is so much more reasonable for cost. Interesting to hear they can fade though!

That is SO COOL! I was given some alcohol inks and had no idea what to make with them so I will def be trying this. I have a few questions
    1. Why is your video so quiet? I have hearing issues and have to put your videos on full volume with captions lol
    2. Have you tried a wood burner or a hotfix tool for the hole? It's really helpful. Stinky but no shavings to shake out. Do you recommend not doing that?
    3. Have you tried uv resin on the oustide top seal to avoid leaking before? Ive tried it on a few of mine and they stop leaking but I'm not sure of the long term with doing that

I'll try to increase the volume, I didn't realize it was a problem until recently. It sounds fine on my side but that doesn't mean it sounds fine to everyone. I'm having issues finding a mic that doesn't pic up my apparently loud breathing lol. I'm on my 4th one and all it still picks up is breathing. Lol.
I have actually ordered a burner tool but haven't received it yet. Would be good to do outside. I would be worried about the fumes.. I will definitely make a quick video when I actually receive it.
I have definitely used uv resin to seal up the holes. That is what I typically use although I've had a few people ask me for alternative ideas as they are allergic to resin.

I have never tried it but I assume if you can mix the food coloring with the ink and it doesn't separate you should be ok

    Does this effect last long?

I find it lasts much longer if you add some clear glue or vegetable glycerin. Also food coloring seems to work better imo anyway. But like to experiment for the videos.

What is the ratio of liquid for the color changing and magic tumblers

    • @weirdandwonderful
      @weirdandwonderful  2 роки тому

Do you mean to glue or glycerin or the powder? I put about 1 tablespoon per 1/4 cup of water and depending on the tumbler I use about 10 drops of coloring or more if you want it darker. I use about 10-25ml of mica depending on how much color I want in it. They are fairly forgiving, I don't measure much.
