  • Traditional Bowhunting with my Blacktail Sitka recurve 41@27 56" . Action start´s at 2:50
    I have discovered droppings, scrapes and several deer trails in this forrest. On an early November morning, when the wind was right for the ambush, I was ready in my climber.
    There may be several reasons why an arrow does not penetrate all the way through the deer. Some of the reasons may be that the deer responds to the shot and thus strain the muscle to get ready to get away, which I think is one of the reasons in this case.
    This deer was raising the shoulderblades and hereby lowering the spine, which resolved that one of the blades was cutting the spine.

    Whitetail deer do the same thing. If they think they see something, they start bobbing their head up and down, trying to catch you moving. Good idea on how you drag the deer out, pulling the legs together over the head keeps them from snagging on brush. Small deer are easier to drag out, more tender, and less wild taste. I eat the heart first. It is the fillet mignon of a deer.

    Beautiful hunting day Peter. Good words to make people aware of all the wildlife that die on our roads every year and goes to waist. I've never heard antihunters complain about that.

    I made a mistake watching one of your videos now i have watched like 6 of them they are very good videos and very interesting even though i don't understand Danish!!
    I have noticed that u use the same tree stand that i do X treme climbing stand is one of the best also u hunt just like we do here in the USA, you should come and try for whitetail deer here with your shooting ability and your experience i think you will feel right at home!!! But i must warn you that if a big buck walks into range your nerves might not let you shoot it!!!!!

    It heard the bow touch something on your partial draw. Think you spined it no?
    Excellent hunt 👍.

    • @peterjuulsgaard
      @peterjuulsgaard  4 роки тому +2

      Yes it was a little tight up that tree, and it made it difficult to draw the bow. The shot was just under the spine, one of the three blades was slitting the spine. At the same time the deer was reacting on the shot, which is a major penetration killer. Thanks for watching

  • @feralgrandad4429

    Great video. At 3.05 when they push their ears forward and start licking their noses, you know they have seen or hear "something." nice shot though the shoulder. I'm guessing you using a fairly heavy broadhead/insert?

    • @peterjuulsgaard
      @peterjuulsgaard  4 роки тому +2

      yeah the doe picked me! I dont think she know what she saw though. I got 125 Montec and a 100 grain insert, but when they are reacting on the shot, we dont always get the penetration we like. Especially not on the shoulder. Roe´s can be tough, cause they often moves on the shot. Thanks for watching man!

  • @Kurtdog63
    @Kurtdog63 3 роки тому +1

    What is your arrow weight? If you had been shooting light arrows, probably would have not got enough penetration to put it down.

    • @peterjuulsgaard
      @peterjuulsgaard  3 роки тому +1

      They are around 480 grains. The deer react’s on the shot, which kills the penetration in this case. But this arrow is too light. Now a days I use 550 grain and up

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 3 роки тому

      @@peterjuulsgaard Yes, I like to stay above 500 grain arrows on bows AND crossbows. I don't like mechanical broadheads either.

    How many can you legally take every season in Denmark?

    • @peterjuulsgaard
      @peterjuulsgaard  3 роки тому +1

      We can take all the deer we want! But we can Only hunt the areas we are permitted to. So we need to manage our deer, so we have deer to hunt the year after. That’s also why most of us are taking the fawn’s before the doe’s. Cause the doe get’s two new fawns next year

    Shoot 650 grain arrows per ed ashby and you will never have penetration issues.

    • @peterjuulsgaard
      @peterjuulsgaard  5 років тому +1

      Bone Collector yeah I know! And I am sometimes, or at least heavier than this. But I have basicly used the same arrow setup all season exept the broadhead. I had no issues with all the others. Roedeer are small, so i like the flatter trajectory. My current setup is 11,5 gpp. Shoulderhots sucks! Thanks for watching.

      @@peterjuulsgaard yeah I live in Estonia and Bow hunt Roe Buck in Alland Islands and Finland every year. I shoot 400 Spine with 250 grain insert and 150 grain single bevel. Even roe buck scapula can be tough.
