    Hey man, I've been in the hobby for about 6 years now and to this day I've still only found 5 or 6 dimes. One barber, three mercs and a couple of 64's. Other than that, thats all the silvers I've found so far. You're out hunting with two pro's and they've been at it long enough to make it look easy. You're lucky enough to have them guide you around so you got some advantages. Dont get discouraged. And be in it for the sake if being out there and having a good time, not for the silver.
    MUSH LOVE homey👊 Keep at it!

    That's some nice finds your lucky you guys have the potential for large cents in those states. I'm from oregon and been metal detecting about 3 years and git 1 silver dime from 1952 and my oldest coin is from 1914 its a wheat penny (sadly not a d mint) but I'm hoping to find my first Indian this year. Got a permission from my freidns grandparents that has a new house with an 1870s house foundation that looks like it has never been detected.

Anywho, that’s just wishful thinking right now, until then I’ll keep watching you fellars and several others on UA-cam here, maybe learn a thing or three.

    I was detecting in the park thats a few minutes from my house. Walking distance within a few minutes. Been detecting it for the last 2.5 years. Some lady in a safety vest shows up screaming at me telling me i am tearing up her grass. She puts tons of time into and i am destroying it. I was only able to get a few words in 2 times. I said i take great pride in plugs that are perfect..... And she cut me off screaming i was the most disrespectful and i was the most disgraceful person shes ever met! She reapeated that about 4 times and said again i am tearing up HER grass. I was able to say where is the grass destroyed? She looks around and says "no where". I said why are you yelling at me? She then says she seen a few months ago a brown circle in the grass. And points to an area. The spot she pointed to is a spot that dies or goes brown every summer as the sprinklers dont hit that spot. I started to say something and she vuts me off screaming louder i and disgraceful. I was going to say its the spot not covered by sprinklers but she did not care. She turned and started walking away and i said metal detecting is my hobby and i dont damage or tear up anything and there is no law against detecting. She turns back and says you might get away with this here but come over to HER baseball fields and she will call the cops. And she stormed off. Well funny thing is i been detecting those baseball fields the last 2.5 years just like i detect the parks in town. I hit them all regularly.
    I dont know why she showed up but i suspect this. We hve a fireman in town that is a real "######" if you know what i mean. I had a run in with him at my house but thats another story. Anyway night before i was detecting in the same park. He came directly by me with wife or whatever and dog walking. He says are you aloud to be tearing up the grass like that? I said i did not tear up anything. He looks at me ...i said do you see anything tore up anywhere here? He says well we will see about that as he walks off. Then yhe very next day the lady shows up never looked at anything i was doing nothing. Just scream that i was "tearing up" the grass. Same words the fireman used. So his comment we will see about that meant he was going to call parks department and complain. And she showed up next day. Crazy part is i broke my foot a few months back. I have not been out detecting for awhile. So she did not see a brown spot from me. Next it rained all the way till about a week ago. So grass is super green and ground wet. No brown spots. And last my foot is not healing and still in the boot. I can only detect for about 45 minutes on my feet. I have only been out the 2 times. The night fireman walked by with his comments and then i was eager to trst my new m15 coil on Manticore so i went next day down to park and had been there for about 30 minutes when she showed up.
    Moral to the story is i am bummed out. I do my absolute best to have perfect plugs and leave no trace. I take out tons of trash and junk i find in and on the ground. I dont want to lose my detecting sites. I been detecting all the parks alot daily in fact for last 2.5 years. I am out all the time. I dont want the city to ban detecting here. And i see this lady trying to get that done. Or the fireman. I dont know if i should go to the head of parks and talk to that person? Or should i go to city council and talk to head person there to cover myself and make sure that no law gets brought up and passed without me knowing and defending the right to detect. Cops are jerks here. Told me its legal to detect but tried to get me on trespassing for detecting sidewalk grass strips. Which are city owned. When they sorted out that they said ok its city and detecting is currently legal but you dug in the grass and that vandalism. So they wanted to site me on vandalism charges. I asked them if i could demonstrate what i do. They agreed. I detected a target i cut a pkug pinpointed the coin and got it the put the plug back and stamped it in. After you vould not tell i had done it. The one of 3 cops that showed up cause someone called cops on me and lied to them said i was digging in peoples front yards so they sent 3 cops out. Anyway after my demo the one shook my hand and said have a nice day. I am not a confrontational kind of guy. I keep to myself and dont bother anyone. I am sick to my stomack this lady said me detecting is the most discraceful and disrespectful thing shes ever seen.

      Some people are rude and maybe they’re just afraid of us finding something they’re not. We run in to people that call the cops quite often, but we’re within our legal rights. Hoping it all works out for you.

      I've had a similar situation before detecting my local high school. Cop came up on me and said that they got a call and they don't want me digging up the school grounds. I said okay I'll leave. He started talking to me as we were walking and asked if I ever found anything good. I took out my phone and showed him some of my nice finds. I then told him that I've dug hundreds and hundreds of holes here and no one can tell where I dug, I make it look like I was never there. As I was putting my stuff in my truck he drove off then I see him turn around then drive back to me as I was getting ready to leave. He said hold on a minute, he called his dispatch and asked if the person who called was affiliated with the high school, they replied no. He then turns to me and said the person who called isn't affiliated with the school so I'm not going to ask you to leave your welcome to stay. So I thanked him for what he did, I'll never forget that 👍

      If you are recovering your finds with a long handled shovel, people get the wrong perception in a hurry. I have found that using a smaller digging tool in public areas attract a lot less attention than the long handled shovels. In fact, if I walked into some of the parks I hunt with a long handled shovel, I would get booted out very quickly.

      @DavidBasonic Місяць тому +1

      I think it's a lot to do with the type of people that live in the area. The people that complain about the sidewalk strips are generally going to be people who feel disrespected in some way by you being there without asking their permission. They feel like it is their property and you are not treating it with respect. I think this extends to parks and ballfields in their neighborhood. They feel like they own it and need to protect it. This may stem from negative experiences in the past. Others who have actually been disrespectful can ruin it for everyone. But, then there are also people who are just uptight and entitled and can't believe we have the audacity to dig holes and take relics.
      Fortunately, in my town, the only place I've ever been run off of is the county courthouse lawn. I never asked permission, but heck, I know everyone in town and the county judge at the time goes to the same church as my folks! One Sunday morning, though, the district judge rolls up screaming. Asked if I had permission, tells me and the guy I was digging with that we're tearing up the grass. To me... just not worth the hassle. I'd been there 10 times before and the finds were super-slow by then. Not at first. I'd found plenty of great coins and jewelry. I know the rest will be hard to find. And I plan to outlive this dude. Or at least his career.
      Anywhere else PUBLIC in town, even my honey-hole, which is a big grassy acre along a two lane highway that gets mowed so that it is never more than 3 inches of grass... I can dig foot-deep holes with my ball-handle lesche and no one bats an eye except to stop and ask if I've found anything good today!
      So... it's just different rules for different places and some people act like they own everything. Don't get discouraged. Keep looking for places you CAN dig.
