The reason this is a protective style:
Protective style- The basic concept is to preserve “something valuable” i.e OUR HAIR - from damage and harm.
Protective styling reduces ongoing manipulation of the hair, encourages growth and length retention and furthermore reduces knots and tangles.
Protective style doesn’t require much daily upkeep or constant manipulation.
I am able to wear my hair like this for up to two weeks without restyling/ manipulating, encouraging my hair to flourish and remain healthy.

The oil on rubber bands is by far the best idea I’ve ever gotten !!
girl this is my go-to. i have it for 1-2 weeks. wash and repeat.
outlander yes girl!!
@outlander me too. I usually redo mines every 3 weeks
@@prethathom6382 yeaa i think i wash my hair more often than most naturals. its just what im more comfortable with.
To work?
@@maame6768 yep. You cant wear braids to work?
Watching you part, detangle and braid your hair is always so satisfying lol
I love these protective styles with no added hair! Please continue to share! 😊
I am from the old school. My peers and I braided our hair like this in the late 60's early 70's and got called Buckwheat. We really jazzed our braids up after being called names. This style never called for added hair on a permanent base. I am 66 years old and decided to roll back the hands of time and braid my hair again and got unbelievable responses from everybody that saw me that had weave in their hair. No fake hair is necessary. My hair grow 6 inches in one year and still growing. Depending on how long your hair is don't worry about straight parts. Good Luck!
Will do ☺️
I’m going to try this style tomorrow. Braids are my go-to protective style but my parting skills need work.
Mines too. The back of my head is the hardest part.
By i am finna pop fireworks😄😄😄😷
Mines too. Lol I feel like I am the worst at parting.
Ms Melissa keep practicing 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Have a friend or family member make the parts for you especially in the back.
You been doing it over 2 decades girl you look as young as 2 decades xx
Thank you so much 😊
Just feels nice having your own Hair on ! All the time ! Absolutely nothing bits that feeling 🥰🥰🥰
Right 🙌🏽 love the versatility 🥰
Just in time! Today is wash day
Michelle's Daughter yay 🙌🏽 me too but a quick one 😫
Thank u …the rubber band technique really helped me
Glad to know ☺️
When I was about seven or eight, my grandmother would do my hair like this once a month, but she would use the straighten comb first. This just helped me in styling my daughter's hair in the morning. I am going to do mine once I remove my extensions thnk you.
Love the Sade in the background 🥰 thanks for the upload; great info.
This came out so dope and ima have to try it , even tho I never braided my own hair lol
Thank you 🥰
Your parting skills are on point! You can do it with your eyes closed 😂
This hair!! And this color suits your skin very well!
Thank you, it's my natural hair color :)
@@jeanettejbeauty6374 It's amazing!
Ha....I just did these today. I do these as a protective style pretty often these days during COVID. However, my hair is terribly fine so all my braids are skinny af. 😂 But that's okay. I just gather my braids into a bun and attach a curly ponytail. LOL Either that or I let the front row loose and attach a half wig. Bam!
Melanie D Fine hair struggles 😩😩
I felt this comment on a spiritual level 😂
Wow. It's like you read my mind. I've been doing this style for two months so far and I redo mines every 3 weeks (that's as far as my hair can go to). Thanks for the tips on the rubber bands because rubber bands really hurt my scalp even when it's not right so I haven't used them in a while 🤷🏽♀️
I’ve been keeping my hair braided too! At first I did it to keep my hair out of my face while I’m on break but then I realized I had it all framed perfectly so now I just redo the braids one by one whenever one gets frizzy near my roots, every week or so. I’m like why didn’t I think of this sooner
Yesss I'm loving these Braids and I will Try to do it on my Head.📝👍🏾✔🥰😘
Myrna J thank you Myrna 💕
Thanks so much you helped me a lot love the process
Glad it helped!
Enjoyed gave me some tips on using oil on rubber bands & using edge gel instead of regular gel. Can't wait for the video on clean parting my parting is lousy.😀
This is a great video. Also we have the same type of birthmarks! I have never seen anyone with the same type and it made me really happy to see. Keep up the great content. 😀
Thank you so much. Yes, and they beautiful on us 😊
Love this I love natural hair braids they rock keep sharing and thank you for sharing
Queen of clean parts 🙌🙌
One time I did braids like these in my hair as well and I used triangular parts!
Nicee😁
I was getting afraid that Black women were no longer actually going to braid their own hair like we did back in the days of "Say It Loud I'm Black And I'm Proud". I have 6 inch very thick 4C hair that is braided in micro braids for the past 12 months. I washed and conditioned and repaired/tightened braids every two weeks without fail. I wore my hair like this in High School back in the 70's and got called Buckwheat. Then an Actress named Bo Derek braided her long blonde hair and some Black women no longer sat down and took care of their hair like we always did. And the DAMAGE that has happened to the scalp from weave is unreal. Thank you for posting this video.
u have the most healthiest hair ive ever seen 😍😍
I'm loving these styles!!
In The Name of Love thank you 😊
This is hands down the prettiest make up look I've seen you in. Nice job!
thank u for showing us how u part it, my hair very similar to urs so I'm defiantly subscribing.
I so enjoy watching your videos! They are so informative!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much! I think following the finer techniques you explained( i.e. smoothing sections at top of head, snug braiding for great definition, staggering each row) will make big difference to the attractiveness of this style . Thanks very much. I will apply🦋
Yes another style to go to thanks so much for the rods I brought the orange ones and followed your step by step turned out great 👍
I'm 10 years old and have some cornrows that I wanted to replace but I realized I can't do cornrows so I came to box braids! also- how long did this take you? (it's 8:15 at night and I don't want to be up all night)
The braids and you look amazing ❤️
Lindy thank you. 🥰
Beautiful hair
Will love to see how you style these braids. Cute style
they came out so pretty!!
This looks fun. Think I might try it when I have more time. Loving the hoop earrings too. 😀

I never thought about braiding with rubber bands ❤❤your hair turned out beautiful ❤ ❤my hair is growing back from having breast cancer twice and I can't braid the back of my hair anymore because I have lymphedema from having breast cancer twice but I can braid the front and the sides and I will need to find someone to braid the back ❤❤

This style is really nice, I actually prefer braids than mini twists these days! Quick question; what do you use to edit and how do you get these songs?
I should try this hair style on my next wash day I love it
So Pretty
Luv it!! I will be trying this style on my next wash day
So pretty!!! Why do you use the rubber bands?
I wanna try this style out
Hope you have a great day 😊
In The Name of Love thank you 😊 you too 🙌🏽
Doesn’t the oil weaken the rubber bands? Or is that certain oils?
Girl ima try it, you look amazing! 💕
I hv these on now without the rubber bands . Been doing this for three weeks now
its pretty
Love this sis!!!Doing my girls hair like this when I get off this week.
I will try this style great tutorial!
I'm probably gonna have like 12 comments on this video cuz I'ma keep coming back!! The oil on the rubber bands for tension is everything!
Hey, where do you guys buy your products? Im the one doing my lil cousins hair and ive tried walmart but they suck for having good stuff. Please comment places 🙏
Try target, Amazon, some beauty supply stores
I'm doing this style rn
Quick question is the rubber band method good for people that are beginners at braiding their own hair
Definitely, just recto be gentle ☺️
@@jeanettejbeauty6374 Thank you so much for responding I will definitely try it.
That's pretty now I'm bout to do some now that my twa has grown out
Why did you put rubber bands at the top of the braid?
Will try this! Still waiting on the videos from the part though..
Thank you for this tutorial!❤
Lovely style.....How do you stretch your hair after wash day?
The ends don't unravel without elastics?
AWESOME.
Can you post what it looks like after you remove it at the end of the week?
I love u an I absolutely love your hair very good tips etc love it 🙏
Love the protective style. Did it hurt? Your scalp looks red
Thank you for telling us your products! I'm so much happier with my hair after using Betta Than Butta and your leave- in conditioner. I don't wake up a combo of Dianna Ross and Chewbacca, from Star Wars anymore.
Can you please provide HONEST feedback as to how African Americans would view me with braids (see pic)? I would NEVER want anyone to think I'm being pretentious or misappropriating my race. For the record, my pappa was the first generation to (mostly) "pass" as white after moving to the US from Barbados. I don't look like my siblings. I'm the oddball being blonde and pale, but I still have curly, textured hair. Every day is a struggle to keep it neat and I'm done wearing a turban to avoid daily dreadlocks...
I have 4c hair and every time I braid my hair it gets frizzy and it looks like I never done my hair.you got any tips.😩
sleep with a bonnet!! i realized when i use to never sleep in a bonnet my hair was super frizzy.
Make sure hair not wet when braiding .
Make sure it’s moisturized. Frizz is caused by dryness. Grease or a gel can also help more than say oil to keep hair tidy.
Cuteness 🥰
Thank you! 😊
Can you do a vid on how you style these? Love your hair❤️
This looks good...I need help y’all.my scalp itches so bad even after I oil it up. What do you use on your scalp? ....anyone please. Thanksxxx
Hello Does this works for relaxed hair
I think it would look a lot better without the rubber bands but I understand with that many braids it lasts longer that way
Wow! This is the most beautiful style you've ever made hands down. It will even last for 2 weeks or more. If I dont have that soultanicals not butta and design essential egde sleek., what other products is good for this style? Love the style
Beautiful ❤️
Love it.💜
Your looks brownish red. Pretty
So i dont need rubber bands on the ends? Im worried aboit my hair unraveling
It really depends on your hair and the technique you use 💕
New subscriber here. How do you keep it moisturized and do you do a braid out when it gets old?
Sharon A welcome ☺️ I just use my scarf and bonnet at night
How is it not unraveling?? Whem I do braids I have to put elastics at the bottom 🙃🙃🙃
I twirled the ends 🙂
Love it
Hi Janette! Happy 4th! I love this style on you. Since working from I've keeping my hair in protective styles using braids and twists. I love it but my hair is not thick so I wonder if I try bigger sections would it look alright? 🤔😍❤
How many braids did you have in I tried to count lol?
you can make Portuguese subtitles available! 🇧🇷 I love your videos 🥰
I wish my braids looked like this. One question. Do you recommed doing the braids on dry hair or soaking wet straight from the shower? Because I always do them in soaking wet hair since it's easier to comb but my braids don't look this clean.
I like styling on damp hair. Also, I used edge control on my roots.
@@jeanettejbeauty6374 thank youu!!!
Never braid your hair wet or wet it afterward... dry it first then condition. Water causes shrinkage
Dont use rubber bands
