- This is part 2 of our tour aboard the USS Enterprise docked in Norfolk VA , in this series we visit the lower areas of the ship such as the Fan tail , Mess Hall , the ward room and the officers mess , areas never before seen and exclusive.
This was our final day touring aboard Enterprise , in our next series we will showcase
the inactivation ceremony and the glory it was.
This was a time to really reflect and bid farewell to the nations longest serving flagship and the namesake of the finest carrier that served in WW2.
A Liveboat USA Special report :
Video & Photographs by Byron Huart
Its solemn music because of the fact men died on this ship and she served 50+ years of service to the nation. very powerful stuff, it was an an honor to visit this ship.
A Sailor's love for his ship cannot be fully summed up in words. Sad end to the Big E.
89-92 world cruise was great. Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, St Thomas. GOOD TIMES.
I was with you!
I was on that cruise and the one before it, Philippines, Kenya and Operation Praying Mantis!
I served aboard her in 1972 73 in 1st div. She was a great ship had a great commanding officer Captain Tissot. The first lieutenant LCDR. John Henrizzi was an inspiring Officer and a fine leader! My Division Officer, Ltjg Dowing was the best junior officer I've ever served under a very good and fair Officer. In the seven years I served in the Navy, these were the finest officers any sailor could have ever served under some of the things I've learned from these men have had a great positive impact on my life.

My home for four years and 3 tours of Vietnam. sad to see her go a Old Sailor with hundreds of thousands of miles underneath her keel. This ship shined when I was aboard every Friday, the ship was scrubbed top to bottom and included using nitric acid and steel brushes on the deck plates. Her bilges were always dry and not even dust was allowed. Bye Big E 50 years and only maybe 25000 men can claim walking her decks as the ships crew. When the last of us dies her memories go with us.
Did 2 tours on the Big E and loved every minute of it!!!
I spent 7 years on the Big E. I love the fact that she was my first ship for 4 years and my last ship before going to the Career Counseling School you will notice the Golden Anchors there in which I helped to get for her. God Bless all the men who served on her and thank you RADM Rittenour. for a great lead command. I will never forget her!
My home from January 1974 through August 1978 as a a Reactor Operator, Reactor Technician and Reactor Controls Instructor. I’ll always love and have a high regard for this ship.
Over 14,000 views! Thank you all very much for your comments and your questions. To answer your questions on the ship, the ship is currently undergoing defuelling and stripping of all re-useable equipment. The ship is not open to the publiv as she's an industrial zone. After this process is done she will be towed past cape horn to her final resting spot of Bremerton, WA for scrapping. A sad end to an illustrious ship
It was a pleasure to have served aboard this magnificent ship from 1963 to1965 . I was a member of the aft catapult crew, and participated in the around the world cruise . Loved every minute, and wished I would have stayed in !
Great Video! Just as; Deserving, Well Organized And Presented, And Memorable! Thank You again. God Bless. Darth Airborne Nobody 55’ NYC
I landed on the Big E March of 68 on the COD flight from Subic Bay. Stationed there till May l969 and crossed decks to USS Kearsarge attached to VAW 111 for brother duty. Also attended the decommisioning ceremony Dec 2012, great and solemn memories.
Pride of the fleet! Served aboard Nov 68 to Jul 69, VA-146, experienced the fire, mighty proud to have served aboard this wonderful ship. We don't have the ship anymore, but I will always have the memories. Never forget the Big E!
beautiful ship.
I was a crew member from 5/72 - 9/74, M-Div, 3MMR & 1AMR. One tour of Viet Nam, Stationed Tonkin Gulf, Operation Line Backer 1 & 2.
Thanks for this the Big E would have been a cool museum ship
thank you for posting! some damn good memories from around the world.
Thanks for doing this. I haven't seen the inside of Big E since I left her in dry dock in Newport News in '91...Lots of memories.
Called her home from June 1970 to April 1972 ! 10 more tour Vietnam ! 🇺🇸
First of her kind, she was in a class by herself. She was magnificent. She carried me through 2 hurricanes - Typhoons they call them over there. WESPAC 74-75, she was CVAN in those days. That ship would routinely outrun her escorts.
She was a great lady to serve on. (8/74-5/75) P. Spain
Nice to use a tune from AirWolf, if not it's very similar. To the best ship made, to the Men and Women that made the Name Enterprise Legendary.
Thanks for posting. xlent video both Pt 1/2 . Fantastic detail and time spent in each section. thanks again. BZ

Thank you. This was a labor of love, though I could not tour every pace such as the captain's quarters and certain places, it was a tour and trip I did for the sake of history. I know my sacrifice, dedication and time was not in vain.
The fact that they are going to scrap this piece of history is a slap in the the face to all of the men and women who served and died aboard her. Those people and this wonderful ship deserve better.
Un gran barco... navegue en el durante el año 1998... the BIG E...READY TO LIFT
1993 to 1996 crew member. Big E lives on forever
This video is like a flash freezing in time of how she was when she finished. People will always be able to see.
I guess I have a unique visit to the Enterprise. I landed on the deck of the Enterprise in a helicopter. I was picked up when they through a rope
Down to me I was injured in Vietnam. Never been on a helicopter. I was able to look down at the Enterprise and it was an incredible view. Never forget it. I do not remember anything else until I woke up in the Philippines Navel hospital. The Navy sure can take care of you. Even now l feel that way. Got a great education on GI Bill
Was my home for 4 years. First with Security then later with AIMD. Did not care for Portsmouth but I don't think any shipyard is fun. Rode her from Alameda to Virginia . Great people and great ship. RIP BIg E you served your country well. AO1.
I was an Airmen from 99 - 03 ABF!!! Great times!!
wow im sad knowing i will never be able to visit her again. i served on board from 88 to 91 as a catapult and arresting electrician. boarded while in almeda Ca, and we left right before they had the major earthquake in san fran. did the world cruise and landed in norfolk Va. for rehab. i wish i could go on board i really wanted to do that some day.

ALWAYS BE QWEEN OF THE 7 SEAS AND FLAGSHIP OF THE US NAVY
BM3 Charles Abbott, I to was ships co. 2nd division, 1973 to 1977. it sadens me to know she's being stripped down and sold for scrap. I spent countless hours behind the helm and no telling how many miles I walked from one end to the other. I will always carry those years in my heart and proud to have callwd her my home for 4 years.... Haze Gray And Underway..!!!!!
May someone carry the “Owari Da” legacy again...
Was on her for shakedown cruise 1961 to 1965
great video! please i need to know the music since 14:36 please please please.
Great upload
I agree
Were you on board in 1970 when she came to Portsmouth UK? I got to go aboard then with a guy I met ashore.
i really wish they would put her somewhere and allow the public to visit.
+patstarz
She could not be made a museum due to the radioactive fuel, the 8 reactors to de-fuel and the massive costs. Its sad but she has to be ripped apart to get the reactors out of her. There is a rumor they may preserve the island for display.
Nuclear Regulatory commission would never allow it.
yes i know, i served 3 1/2 years on her, world tour and dry dock. i wish i could have visited one more time. good times
Lucky e is back
Why didn't you finish off the music with the Star Trek Theme?
My home 1969-1971 was the most squared away ship in the navy. Hard work and strict discipline were the order of the day.
I am going to miss the enterprise may her spirit be with us all humans and Americans thank you lifeboat USA will you do me a request for me visit the USS Lexington
What are those structures on the side of the ship at 2:40 to 2:50? They weren't there in the 70's...
I believe they held the sea sparrow missiles. They were already there by the time I came aboard in 95.

Первый, лучший!
Would of been much better if there were more interior views. 1 Jan 86-30 Dec 89
I have more views of the interior on my part 1 video of my Enterprise visit.
Is she open for visitors all the time.
No, she's off limits as she's an industrial zone now , stripped of all fittings, equipment. She's only and empty hulk awaiting towing to Bremerton,WA for scrapping and defueling
Anyone else on ‘07 deployment
