  • In this video, I travel from London St Pancras International to Brussels Midi onboard one of Eurostar's Class 374 E320 units in Standard. For those wondering, Eurostar's Amsterdam services have London based crew between London and Brussels with Amsterdam based crew between Brussels and Amsterdam. My passport was around my ticket, so all my documents were together. Because at the time of filming, July 2022, France still had Covid related entry formalities whereas Belgium and the Netherlands didn't and I didn't know how it was going to work at immigration. As it turned out, there was just a man before immigration checking where you were going and your Covid documents, if required.

Thanks. Fun fact the first part of this video (up to and including entering the Channel Tunnel) was edited while I wasn't filming, that's why I didn't film the Ashford flyover. Past exiting the tunnel, that was edited in the hotel

The sight of those queues at St. Pancras puts me off Eurostars now. It never used to be like that. Unfortunately, my back won't let me stand in queues for that long.

That was just for the summer of 2022. The check in queue for Eurostar has died down now

@@JackJackProductions Cutting out the Disney trains probably helps a bit. I don't like the new e320s as much as the earlier e300s though. Such is progress.

The Disney services are being cut in June 2023. However the cause of the problem was a shortage of PAF (French) immigration officers. But staff were directing some passengers in Standard and Standard Premier through the Business Premier lanes for immigration to try and get passengers through as quickly as possible. It of course didn't help that there was a Paris Nord service, a Marne-la-Vallee (Disneyland) service, and an Amsterdam service all scheduled to go out in the space of 45 minutes and it being the first day of the school holidays

If you wait until next year, I shall complete the Eurostar duo with the E300 from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras International. I shall be in Standard Premier, but I shall have access to some pre-departures facilities thanks to my Amex Platinum. Well it is not a personal Amex Platinum, it is a corporate Amex Platinum but still counts

Well, you'll be pleased to know that you wouldn't have to stand in line to go through the controls as long as I did. Eurostar has fixed the staff shortages they were suffering from last summer. If you are on ES9116 or ES9142 to Brussels or ES9117 or ES9141 back to London it is a booked as one of the older but better (in my opinion) E300 sets. All other Eurostar services between London and Brussels are one of these newer E320s

It's interesting to compare this footage with something similar I shot in 2003 when Eurostars were based at Waterloo: ua-cam.com/video/JuGJhzp0pKk/v-deo.html

It is. I now use the former International platforms as part of my commute to/ from work as I am on the Windsor lines. However it did seem silly that on mainland Europe, the Eurostar could use high speed lines but this side of the channel they had to use classic lines. Now I either get the 8am so I can have just one change at Vauxhall or change twice either at Waterloo and somewhere on the tube in Zone 1 or Clapham Jct and Vauxhall, or Clapham Jct and Victoria

@@JackJackProductions When the Eurostars were based at Waterloo I lived in Cambridgeshire so had to go to King's Cross and then take the Underground to Waterloo. Now that Eurostars are based at St. Pancras, I live in Hampshire so I have to go to Waterloo and then take the Underground to King's Cross St. Pancras!
Where's the justice in that? Especially as, initially, Eurostar star said that some trains would still use Waterloo when they transferred to St. Pancras...
      Here's a 1997 Eurostar video from Waterloo:

Guess it is just bad luck. Does your local station have services to London Victoria as well as Waterloo because if it does then it is nice and easy to get to St Pancras Intl? You would just need to get a Southern service and change for the Victoria Line at Victoria. Instead of changing at Waterloo and either London Bridge, Bank, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Green Park, Oxford Circus, Warren St, or Euston

    • @ronfisher2-railwaytravelvideos

@@JackJackProductions No. But we can change at CLJ for Victoria. Or we can change at Wimbledon and get Thameslink to St. Pancras. Our usual route is WAT to Oxford Circus on the B'loo and then Victoria Line to St. P. We can do that with our eyes closed! There are several alternatives, but it's cross platform at Oxford Circus and that's important when we're luffing suitcases around. We try to avoid too many steps where we can.
