- This drum features an all Spruce 8 ply shell with a beautiful wood grain finish, and boasts a warm and resonant tone. The combination of the Spruce shell and TAMA’s 8-lug die-cast hoops makes for a powerful yet warm rim shot sound.
I own this drum and you will not be disappointed if you buy it. This video is an extremely honest and clear representation of the capabilities of this snare drum. I'm using in with my bubinga kit and it is amazing.
I got this snare and it's the best and least expensive I now have. Love it. Nothing beats it's warmth and sensitivity from the light spruce shell.
I own this drum. it's beautiful and plays very well. I play it at my church and I play a lot of blues with it also. The sound is awesome. I even have the stock heads on. I just tuned it and i love it.
This is by far the best snare demo I've ever seen. I believe every demo should be structured this way so that the buyer can hear the snare played over multiple styles of music and the snare by itself.
However, I do agree with the one comment that mentioned the lack of low to mid to high tuning demonstations. Maybe a different head comparison on the drum as well.
Other than that one critique, great drum, great player, and I believe I'm buying one of these.
i own this snare. It is a gem. I did not take off the stock heads. I just tuned it and play the heck out of it. I play it at church and I play it at blues clubs. She is sweet.
Tama has the best snare collection of any brand. I got a vintage hand hammered and bubinga and I still want more! One day i'll drum for Tama ;)
I agree with you. I own 8 SLP snares. I love them all. They are well made. The variety is amazing.
Ludwig snares hit different tho
Love this drum. Really versatile and looks incredible.
Best snare I've ever had, with my Starphonic maple 14x8. But this Fat Spruce, I play everything with it. Death metal with blast beats all along, drum and bass, funk, prog,.... Tighten the reso and the magic flows. At that price, impossible to look after something else. For me, no turning back. I just hope it will stay on the catalog forever, just in case I break mine or loose it on a gig. 😁
The key, is high tuning...not that great on lower tuning.
But beautiful on high..yes..tight reso.
better for funk than your ludwig?
@@roybeckerman9253 thanks, so you'd say its good for funk?

Definitely..
Mine just came in today, can't wait to try it. I may even buy the matching kit. Tired of maple everything. I have two (now 3) SLP snares and I can't imagine ever spending $800 on a snare again. These things sound great and all have a different voice. Tama is really doing something right.
Joe's got the chops! Great feel.
Gorgeous snare. This could be used on a professional recording on an A list artist album.
Great sounding Snare Drum! Curious what heads he was playing on the Snare Drum? Really nice low end but still has a nice bite to it. I really Dig these SLP series. : )
Interesting drum, but Tama (and Joe) - why no multituning demo? :(
Sounds really good!
Has Joe Saylor been using this on the Late Show with Colbert? I noticed he hasn't been using the maple/wood hoop snare and it sounds like the spruce.
I like this snare drum.
Sounds a bit like Portnoy's snare on Images and words without echoes, his snare on metropolis pt.2, Mangini's snare on the Astonishing and Portnoy's snare on Octavarium
Oh I like this drum!
Fell in love with the star reserve hammered copper at namm, looking for a slp that will sound close to it, of course slp price range?
i wasnt impressed with the whole spruce kit, but this snare sounds great. Kinda dry and a good fat crack to it, right up my alley.
Go on mate. Worth it. I forgot maple a long time ago by playing this beast.
@@joakdrums I just saw one at my local Guitar Center for 300 yesterday and almost did haha
Did anybody notice the rough bearing edge? You would think they would have caught that before the photo shoot. Besides that, it sounds really good; as do some of the other SLP drums.
What is the lug tension you use for the top and bottom.
Love it!!!!!
When is that available??
how is it in high tunings, e.g. for funk?
anyone have experience with it?
I have 3 SLP snare drums and this is going to be #4.
Exactly.
oh my god!!!, those toms ...is the drum set maple shell (starclassic maple) or bubinga?
Starclassic bubinga in new Aztec Gold Metallic finish !
Bubinga
Seems to sound best on very high tuning.
I’m not sure what tuning it’s on here..
I’ll probably buy this snare next year

A very unique sound...I love it.
I bought it, because it’s very different to my maple and bronze snares..
I need this....
I heard Daughters by John Mayer in there.
I want one.
Gorgeous crack
New Hi-hat stand??? 2017's Line?
Иван Волков Yeah, it's coming out soon.
Probably better for jazz, than rock..
Is that a Rolex?
What kit is that?
Maxwell Brewer Tama
Tama Starclassic bubinga , new Aztec Gold Metallic finish .
oh my god
Sounds best on high tuning, but lacks volume, compared to maple or metal..
That’s not brass. It’s chrome.
The lugs? Chrome plated brass.
Relax your shoulders, buddy
i wish every snare demo was in 7/8
