Just a look at two vintage lenses that I am using on the Leica M Monochrom. Cheaper than modern glass and with GOBS of character. I prefer these old lenses on the Monochrom just due to that fact.
Just to save people a lot of time, this is just a video of a camera being picked up and laid down again. No sample photos, no comparisons, no real discussion of quality or function.
Vivan Maier is a hero of mine. She did photography for herself, not to impress anyone. And she did it well.
That term has been used for years and years - just like a person can have "character" so can a lens. They draw differently, much differently than modern designs. With different Bokeh and renderings that gives them "Character". Thanks for letting me school you on that term.
Well, you have the lenses and that right there is the heart and soul of any photo next to the Photographer.
I definitely agree. I have been using he older lenses on my Monochrom and the new ones on the M9. I must say that I prefer the Monochrom, I am absolutely in love with it.
There is indeed a beauty to vintage glass that is lacking in modern designs just as the perfection is missing in vintage designs. There is something for everyone out there :)
Why wouldn't the viewfinder work? You can use the VF of an M without a lens attached as you are not seeing through the lens. As long as the lens is an M mount lens, the focusing will work. You can not attach a Nikon SLR lens, and even if you did, then the focus would not work due to it not be coupled to the RF. But as long as it is an RF lens and adapted or made for the M, you are OK.
good to hear. I've read that the viewfinder doesn't work with adapted lenses,
Love the video and the ideamof using these lenses on my MM, but the phrase "you don't have to spend a fortune" did make me smile, given the cost of the body!
peep the Daido Moriyama book on the bottom.. nice choice.
More than anything else discussed, thanks for turning me on to Viviian.
Good review/article as usual, just wondered about the strap on your Mono, is it a Barton by any chance?
It has the same focusing ramp thingy as the Leica M mount, all it needs is the bayonet. AFAIK, I don't own any of those lenses.
Thanks, enjoying it now :)
I have these two lenses. But I don't have the Monochrom. So sad...!
WOW! I would love to shoot with this camera!
how do you focus with these adapted lenses?
exactly.
Well, you don't need a Leica to use these lenses. If you are on a budget, like I am, try them on m4/3 or NEX...
Same as any other M lens :)
I had fun counting how many times he picked it up then immediately put it back down, hahah
Man, you are the best! :)
@janjitube I already have a Leica M Monochrom, I just thought the comment was funny.
Oops, typo sorry.
book review as terrible as the lens review, just terrible to watch and listen .
"Character".... what a spin doctor.
