The song is about the war in Ukraine and how the band had to leave their homes.
It's basically Jinjers (Cranberries - Zombie)

I's not just "the war in Ukraine", it's RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN war, in which ruSSia occupied UKRAINIAN Crimea and Donbas. Jinjer are basically refugees, they fled their occupied tometown Gorlivka in Donbass and moved first to L'viv and then to Kyiv. But their families are still in this occupied zone of devastation and terror, which ruSSia looted, ruined and turned into a lawless zone with destroyed economy, curfews, unemployment and rule of criminals under ruSSian military control.
This song actually makes me really emotional. But I am from the same region as the band. My native town was one of the first ones where the military actions started. When the war started I was already living in Canada for a couple of years and just had my first child. But my entire family was still living there (parents, grannies, aunts, unless, cousins..). It was killing me. To wake up in the middle of the night to check on news, was there another bombing today or not. First thing in the morning: to call everyone I know "Are you OK (which actually was more like is everyone alive). I can't tell you how many tears I cried at the time. Also at age 24 I got half of my head of gray hair.. There's no enemy I would ever wish to hear sounds of explosions and sirens going on while you're calling your loved ones. And I was not even there at the time.. My child was not there.. And I have so many friends who want through this while being pregnant and having their babies.. Who lost their loved ones in that war.. Also we were lucky and our native town is not occupied anymore. My parents've been war refugees for two years, but eventually could go back to their home. Millions of people there probably lost their homes forever. Guys from Jinjer included..
The moment where Tati is drinking morning tea is about people being trapped in the middle of the conflict getting used to the situation.. Almost normalizing everything that's going on. I heard multiple times from my friends somethings like: "Do you hear a bullet fling?? Is it towards us?" - “no, it's from our side. " -" OK"... Because when you hear a sound of flying rockets, bullets, explosions for the first time in life it scares sh**t out of you. But when you hear it regularly for months that's your new "normal" from now on.. Ofcourse it's not normally, but your brain shutting you out sometimes not to go crazy. My mom ended up with PTSD afterwards.. She was afraid of fireworks, airplanes, was stuttering for a while.. Now she is much better, but I doubt something like this can be ever forgotten completely..
Viktoriia, thank you for this comment. I truly can't imagine how difficult it was to live through what you and your family experienced. Thank you for sharing this. It explains so much about the video, but more importantly the severity and tragedy of what so many of your people endured. Our hearts go out to you and yours ❤

My husband is Armenian, so a couple of months ago our family had to face war topic once again, when Armenia was also in the middle of another heartbreaking war.. I don't remember if you already reacted to System of a Down - Protect the Land
. If not I highly recommend that one too. I sincerely wish peace to people of all nations.. I hope one day we as society, as humanity will stop killing each other... There's no winners in war. Especially for regular people. The only people who get benefits from it are politicians and oligarchy.. The rest are just loosing their lives, their homes, their health, their souls..

@@hemlock399 thank you... unfortunately my parents and two grannies, lots of cousins and niece are in Ukraine.. They can't even go to the safer region of Ukraine. Grannies can barely walk.. they will not stand this trip by train.. and by car it's even more dangerous than stay there.. at least for now they still have a home which is not bombed, heat, electricity, water and food.. at this point it's already concerned good enough.. constant sirens because of bombing from planes and rockets.. but my town is.... ok... if you can still call that "ok"... then they are ok..

@@chrisgoldston9755 oddly enough, after checking a few different lyric sites, it seems they all have missing lyrics or incorrect words.
And it's "Fire in THE hole" - a warning that an explosive detonation in a confined space is imminent.
This one really hits home now.
It is definitely tea-party-like: One Alice who is the only sensible one and around her crazy, sureal madness, which you don`t understand, don`t want to understand because it`s war in your homeland, your city. You try to explain your children although you yourself still haven`t understood in the first place. It is a perfect anti-war song. Oh, I love that song!

That scene where the music gets jazzy is definitely an Alice in Wonderland vibe. If you look closely it turns into a darker Wednesday Addams outfit. Excellent reaction as always ladies!!

While Alice in Wonderland is obviously part of it, I think the broader theme is a child trying to deal with living through war. The "nice" tea party is the fantasy, while the "bad" tea party is the reality, dirty, dark, things broken. If you watch closely, she's pouring water, not tea, like a kid playing. The kid is trying to find normality when they're sleeping in the basement in case of air strikes, just trying to make sense of everything.
They are from the Ukraine remember? The area they are from got basically invaded by Russia = "war"

The entire purpose of this song and video is to deliver Jinjer's vital message of the lyrics. My take: People the world over, we've got to do better. Kick out and reject tyrannical, corrupt, greedy leaders that bring poverty and war to the people while building their own bank accounts. We can make the world peaceful and prosperous starting with or own country. Vote 'em out NOW and put in true leaders with integrity and ideas that build, not destroy to enrich themselves! If you don't have any honest leaders, become one yourself and run for office!

I am a volunteer at the Polish-Ukrainian border in the city of Medyka. I see despair and cry every day. Every day I see fathers leaving their children and wives to come back to fight the Russian invader.

Thanks for the awesome reaction vid! :) I always love seeing others enjoy Jinjer as much as I do. So a few things that I've come to really appreciate and understand about this track:
-This song is an anti-war and very personal song to Jinjer about their experience with the war in Ukraine (almost like their own Zombies by the Cranberries).They've been what they call themselves 'tour refugees for awhile now because they haven't been able to come back to their home and have instead been living on the road for months at a time doing shows internationally
-The beginning of the song is told from the innocent perspective of a child who doesn't quite understand what's going on with the war being waged around them (mermaid = siren, unicorn = soldiers, etc) and then transitions into the 'tea party' bridge where the perspective of the lyrics then shifts to the mother instead who's doing her best to hold her family together and create a sense of normalcy for her child all while trying to ignore this harsh reality that's going on outside. Finally the song climaxes with their house being bombed/destroyed and becoming not a home or shelter anymore but a 'fire in a hole'
-The jazzy bridge imo sounds like it has a lot of influences from bossa nova music which is just a wild thing to have in any metal song in general but god is it fucking amazing lol
-The high note that Eugene the bassist slaps over and over is meant to sound like an air raid siren going off as well as the blast beats/notes from the Vlad on drums/Roman on guitar sounding like gunfire
Every time I rewatch this video I feel like I always find something new to pick out. All in all this song is one of my absolute favorites of theirs and is a technical masterpiece that puts their raw talent on perfect display in everything from Tatis vocals/stage performance to their vibrant musicianship.
It's their first refugee experience imagined through the eyes of an innocent child. It hits harder now that so many Ukrainians are now going through this.

They are from a part of Ukraine that was invaded around 2014 by Russia. This song is in reference to that.
I always thought the war in Ukraine was in the 90's. During the Clinton administration. Bosnians and serbians were fighting. Some close friends of mine fought in that war and said it was pure hell. Pregnant women mowed down in the streets.

@@oldscratch3535 Not quite...its more about the ambiguous invasion of the Donbas region of Ukraine, where the band members originally hail from. The Crimean invasion happened before this.

The jazzy part sounds A LOT like the easy listening pop of the nineties that The Cardigans made. Which is kind of funny, because The Cardigans were originally Heavy Metal musicians. They probably made the cutest version of Black Sabbath's Iron Man ever made.

Ladies is in a very emotional song about the Ukraine and where the band comes from and they're saying they don't want to be homeless because the Soviet Army is right on their border with missile compartments tanks and troops ready to invade so what Tatiana is essentially saying is I want my home back and I don't want to be homeless when I go home

My heart goes out to the people in eastern Ukraine who have suffered so much in the conflict with the Russian backed aggression, Ukraine needs to remain an independent free country.

They're from Ukraine. I read in an interview Tatiana said she wrote this from the point of view of a 14 year old stuck in a war zone.

War, isn't about anything except one thing. Big banking making a nonexistent thing their profit. Debt, the longer and more the war the higher the cost and interest , one bank loans the nonexistent dollar to both sides therefore creating debt which then gives them power to do whatever,whenever they feel. The war in the Ukraine is no different but like she said. They just want their homes back

I have to say this in each reaction video I see where the reactors are smiling and/or laughing...I find it highly disturbing for someone to smile or laugh through this song. It is actually a very sad song.
If you had paid attention to the lyrics, it's about the war in the Ukraine and what life was like for them.
Sometimes people respond to shocking things with laughter to help them process what is happening. It is a defense mechanism. It doesn't necessarily mean that they don't understand the weight of what they are watching.

This song isn't about any particular conflict?... They are from Ukraine, singing about their home in this song.
Of course it's about Ukraine, but Eugene HAS said that it's applicable to all wars, and the world situation in general with lack of cooperation etc. etc.

Not every JINJER song is that good. This is one of them. The song is all over the place and has no flow.
It's not a BAD song, but not one of my favorites. It's the meaning that makes this song important imo.

:)) This is one their BEST songs with fantastic visuals in the video. You just need to understand better the lyrics and their perfect connection to the music in each moment.
@@natastudyN Nah. Im sure I understand music just fine being I'm 34 and been a musician my whole life. The video out shines the the song. The song does have good parts especially towards the end but when they switch it up (which they do a lot) it doesn't flow well overall.
