    These are excellent videos. I have been drinking them up for the last hour, the entire batch except two of them thus far. Wow, I am just pondering how much work went into each one and where the cool graphics came from to begin with.

    Great video explanation on how and what an oxygen sensor actually does! I understood the purpose of the sensors but the science of how and what they actually do was a bit of a mystery to me, this video was both interesting and very informative. Nice job! Thank you for posting.

      The easiest way to test an Oxygen Sensor is to send either Positive or Negative voltage through the Signal Wire Utilizing the Cars Battery. Just use your body as a Resistor when testing using Positive Voltage. Real Fixes Real fast, shows how to test the Oxygen Sensor utilizing this Methodology.

    At 2:45 when it said " The difference in concentration of oxygen molecules in the exhaust gas and the ambient air drives the oxygen ions from higher to lower concentration." Is outside air the higher concentration?
    Thanks! This video is very well done by the way. It really helped my understanding.

    • @ryan_from_tmg
      @ryan_from_tmg Рік тому

      I know this is 7 years later, but yes the higher concentration of oxygen molecules would be in the ambient air, since the oxygen inside the exhaust was mostly used up during combustion.

    Excellent video. Very clear and detailed. Just one question: What exactly does rich or lean mean?
    Rich=high voltage=low ratio of outside O2 to exhaust O2=not full combustion of gas in cylinders?
    Is this correct?

    • @enoxosr1
      @enoxosr1 10 років тому +2

      Rich means that the fuel to air mixture has more fuel than the specified operating value and lean means the air is more than the specified value.

  • @midwestriders1

    One thing It didn't say but its pretty much common sense is when the PCM receives a lean signal around .1 volt it grounds the injectors to stay on longer. When it receives a rich signal around .9 volts it shortens the time the injectors come on.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO EXPALINED VERY CLEARLY AND VERY INFORMATIVE - The mixture on your car could be made to run very lean if a resistor was placed inline with one of the leads coming from it, this would reduce the voltage and the ecu would run the car lean :) great for high emission engines that fail at the dreaded mot

    • @PepeRoldan1961
      @PepeRoldan1961 7 років тому +1

      Wouldn't the ECU detect a lean condition and make the mixture rich?

    • @jrdn.lauren
      @jrdn.lauren 7 років тому

      not when its on idle (like when testing). And if it is running rich, the resistor would only drop it slightly to make it look like its juuust right. ecu tells the testing equipment everything it peachy and you get the green light.

      Didnt those bullshit plug in power chips from back in the day do the opposite? By fooling the ecu that it was lean n making the car run richer..... for £125?

    • @marknorth1221
      @marknorth1221 6 років тому

      theravedaddy i think you need to increase the voltage to fool the system into thinking its ritch so the injectors run a bit leaner, that should give better economy, but be carefull not to go too lean or its bye bye pistons and plugs, there are some aftermarket products that should do the trick. If its a single wire o2 sensor then you could probably DIY with a voltage reg, a trimpot and AA battery

    I still don’t understand it, how does it know the difference between rich and Stoich? I mean since both stoich and rich use up all the oxygen in the exhaust, then essentially there is no difference in the makeup of the exhaust for these two conditions, unless stoich is defined as still having some percentage of oxygen in the exhaust.
