We love all of the discussion and debate about the bat flips and the Sooner dynasty - the beautiful part about it is that we are all talking about softball! The game is growing and that’s something we can all be proud of 🥎 ❤📈
I'm an Oklahoma fan who has been evaluating softball recruits for an Oklahoma website that focuses more on Football. I have been doing this since 2017 and I can tell you it is like night and day the enthusiasm for softball right now. The usual response in the beginning was "Why is softball being talked about on a football message board?". Now, even the hardcore football guys have been converted to being softball fans so that's pretty cool. As far as the "Bat Slams" that you referred to, some OU fans are down with it and some are not. I'm in the latter. I personally think it's a combination of trying to motivate their teammates while also making an effort to get into their opponents heads.
Great discussion, enjoyed the softball talk! The OU dynasty has been fantastic for college softball because its turbocharged the popularity of the sport. Uconn women's basketball was good example, for the last 30 years their huge popularity grew the sport. (BTW Uconn's been dogged with three years of non-stop injuries, they look extremely stacked for next season.) New blood is always good, but a persistent charismatic dynasty can really attract a lot of attention, new fans.
Great podcast ladies. As being an OU fan I thought that you all were very fair and balanced - great job there. Here's my take on the bat-slam walk: The reason to celebrate is that you didn't strike out, ground out, or pop out. You had a good enough eye to avoid swinging at bad pitches and didn't make an out for your team. Just my humble opinion!
Hi to Raine and Kelly. This was my first time watching one of your videos and it was enjoyable to hear all your thoughts and insights on the WCWS and the season. You both have a very nice speaking style on camera and make the conversation flow seamlessly. You come across as very friendly, fun and intelligent. In regard to some things I'd enjoy seeing you cover in the future. 1. Kelly - Maybe you could ask some of your pro teammates who was their favorite player when they first started loving the game as a youngster? 2. What are some of their favorite memories of WCWS games and plays that they have watched - or played in? 3. What was an embarrassing moment that they remember? 4. What was their biggest hit in any game that they have played? 5. What was the best fielding play in any game they have played? And I'd like to hear the answer to all those questions from both of you.
Faith I enjoyed watching your press conferences after your games in World Series .You did well , very good at giving the other team credit and not expecting any from anyone . OU fan,I usually watch all of them ! GJ this season!
Congrats on an awesome season. As a newbie to softball celebrating walks seemed odd to me at first. And if it was forced that would be weird, but I get the sense Brito celebrates finishing breakfast by slamming her spoon. Plus what caught my attention with sb in the first place was the insane tiktok dance sequences that seem to happen everytime someone makes a play in the field (explain anyone?), so not sure what the difference there is. Softball feels like throwback ncaa march madness because of the passion and its a big reason I watch. It also feels like OK specifically is celebrating helping their team anyway they can.
The Tiktok dances aka the between out celebrations are often times coordinated between teammates - it serves as a way to connect with each teammate between outs and its just a unique way to stay together. Hope that makes sense!!
@@SBSpeakeasy Totally makes sense, assumed it was something like that, appreciate the reply / explanation : ) late finding your pod but will keep an eye on the channel for future episodes. actually one more question if you see this - would love some info on pitch calling, how much say do pitchers have? I think in the champ series the announcers said someone called off a pitch and I hadn't seen/heard of that happening before. Seems like with the watches and signs in the past it was the coach calling them.
There's no difference between a walk and a hit. Both get you on base. Avery Hodge had like 16 pitches at bat one time. She kept battling with foul balls until she finally got walked. That's something to celebrate.
The Sooner Ladies celebrate everything. Hits, walks, stolen bases, home runs, all of it every time. And the entire team is at home plate on a home run. Patti G, said, “They taught me how to coach.”
agree on the one league to rule them all preference. also it would be great to see a league stream games on youtube and let fans support the league the same way other youtube creators / groups of creators work. Having to subscribe to different services and figure out where to get info is a pain. With a single youtube channel you could also have commentary / interview shows like yours on the channel and everyone can collaborate. Then once you have a major following you others will want to pick it up, like pat mcafee went through barstool then onto fanduel and espn eventually as he grew his fanbase.
The pitch is more like a serve that starts a play. The closest action I can think of is celebrating a volleyball serve that goes into the net or goes out of bounds. I don't think I've seen a racquet sports player celebrate a service error with that much gusto, more like a fist pump.
It's no different than a pitcher getting a big strike out and celebrating afterwards. Or having a 12 pitch at bat that's goes your way. That passion is why they have a 4-peat.
Well if they do pull out another one, the haters would be strong. The new pitchers would have to be all American caliber. Give it a run. Haters will hate.
As an OU fan, living here in Oklahoman and speaking for others as well, we and probably many, many others were extremely disappointed with Gasso's decision to pull Nicole May in the last game. Maxwell was never that great of a pitcher at OSU and only game to OU to be a 1 year trophy hunter. Maxwell is not a true OU sister. On the other hand, May gave us 4 spectacular years, never turned her back on her team, and arguably the 2nd best pitcher in OU softball history with her pinpoint accuracy in and around the strike zone. As a freshman, May was replaced by 1 yr trophy hunter in Trautwein, but May was okay with that. May trusted her time would come. The next 2 years, even though Gasso says she'll never ride one arm like she did with Paige Parker, she did. Gasso rode the arm of Bahl. Forcing May to take a backseat to an underclassman. Now, this year, Gasso does it again, rides Maxwell and sits Nicole May for the final outs, even though May had the game well in hand. It broke our hearts to see May crying while the rest of her teammates were celebrating. Gasso may be good coach, but she sucks as a person. It's no wonder Donihoo, Nugent, Erickson, and Bahl left. And now we are losing Hodge who unquestionably was why they won this year. Torres, along with her sister-transfer Sanders, were the two worst players on the team.
I wasn't disappointed, I like May but she is better out of the bullpen than she is a starter. I've never met Gasso so I can't speak on her as a person. But I know a coaches job is winning. If you let your personal feelings get in the way of what's best for the team, then that's when you start to lose. I also can't speak on the players who transferred out but I know I wished them well and rooted for them.
Mays sophomore year bahl was a freshman and trautwein was a senior they rotated starts basically and all had pretty close to the same record as starters. Was sorta the same last year with may bahl and storako.

Respect 🫡 Love that you all came full circle and said “yes” Oklahoma is that good. Duke is a rising program! I was glad to see you in OKC!
It was an absolute blast. Sooner Nation was amazing to see in person!!

Classy podcast....!!! As a Sooner fan....Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
NGL Kel, gonna miss you and your parents at Duke next year, but so happy that you are taking the next step - congratulations!
Yes Kelly, you should be a pro and softball needs one main league with maybe AU in the off season somewhere

Congrats to you all for making the WCWS in your program's seventh year. Good luck in the future!
Thank you so much!
I look at the celebration of the walk as there is a potential run onboard. A walk is as good as a hit.
Did yall get a chance to see loves field? It's beauty!

Remember a walk can turn into a score the same as a single so wouldn’t you be excited if you got a single.
No its just home field advantage.
Thats why Okie State has won so many titles as well…….
Lmao……..

15:00 celebrating when your opponent hits it out of bounds in tennis?

In this sport you cheer when an opponent gets kicked out.

Good job but don’t ever count out OU, #1 class coming in, pickup a pitcher in the portal, they will be there until someone beats them…Boomer
agreed oklahoma will not win next year but that is because who they’re losing.
I don't totally agree with that to me it's a wait and see how they look

Kelly Maxwell was the reason we won #8. She had ice in her veins during the wcws

They literally couldn’t figure Maxwell out. What in the world are you even talking about
