it's an absolutely stunning piece of painting. i love that you showed your process in normal speed, both your pencil marks and brushstrokes seem so precise, it's mesmerizing! love the graphic look and the idea of starting with black outline and working your way up from that :) it's funny, i've never painted a self-portrait, seems so bizzare that i can't get around to try it 😄

thank you! I'm a huge fan of self-portraits (both making them and seeing other people make them). you should definitely try one at some point :)

This was an absolute joy to watch! Thank you for sharing your process and tips! I'm getting this exact Gouache this weekend (coming from pencil sketching, watercolour, and digital) so this was the perfect timing for seeing this. I learns so much and your style is so dynamic and beautiful! I love how playful the process is. It really resonates with me.

thank you so much! gouache can be challenging at times but it's incredibly rewarding - I'm so excited for you to get started with it

Ooo I've been hoping you'd do a gouache process! I love how the paint is applied in your work and want to emulate/learn from it so badly! You're an angel🙏

I actually love the concept of starting the painting with the darker lines. I guess I had always been conditioned to try and build up big shapes and forms first, and while that's helpful in some cases, I always struggle to push those darker features backwards into the space when I already have thick lighter paint underneath! Super interesting video. Thanks much🫶

This is phenomenal. I absolutely LOVE your style. I'm bouncing between tabs trying to work but this is so captivating I had to pause work to watch this. Beautiful work! I'll be binging your entire channel this weekend, I'm sure lol.

So good!!!! I'm not an artist, but I really love art and watching artist work. It's so interesting seeing all of the layering and how different it looked early on versus when it was complete! Don't doubt yourself! I think you're work is fantastic... plus, you're from Minnesota, so you automatically have a leg up on everyone else! 😉

Wow. I've had very limited experience with gouache, and I always thought it was impossible to draw something good with it. But now I'm reconsidering my opinions. I've found your channel today and subscribed after a second video because the points you make are really insightful (and I also liked your voice).

thank you so much! the first painting I made with gouache looked so bad, and it can be so hard to get used to. I would recommend trying it again

the Brushstrokes seem carefree, but the amount of work is the paradox. Love it, loved the Pyramid scheme video too 😊
