Scarborough Fair is a song originally about a guy asking the girl who wishes to be with him to do impossible tasks such as "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt" "Without no seams nor needlework", which is impossible. Its basically saying that all these tasks were impossible to complete in the first place, hence the girl will never be with the guy. HOWEVER, whats even more mindblowing is that Yamada Tamaru in her SukaSuka rendition of the song switched out the "her" parts with "his", thus suggesting that Willem who wishes to be with the one he loves, Chtholly, will never achieve it. The promises they make with each other, which can be substituted with the tasks in the song, are impossible, and thus they will never be with each other. Fun fact: "In Medieval times, the herbs mentioned in the song represented virtues that were important to the lyrics. Parsley was comfort, Sage was strength, Rosemary was love, and Thyme was courage." Thus you can start to piece together how the song depicts Willem's and Chtholly's struggles, their qualities, and their story as she rushes towards the battlefield to her death.

This anime hit me way too hard. I found it by accident and thought "oh, funny name, fantasy action kinda look to it, let's go for it" and now it's one of my all time favourite animes but it breaks my heart to even think about it
I found it on some random Top 10 youtube video, and since then it has been #1 on my all favorites, I've watched it multiple times over and will continue to treasure it.
Found it by accident too thanks to a you tube video .l have around 200 dvd's and blu rays (not many by some peoples standards l admit) but this is still for me a real stand out anime that really hits way too hard for my liking

when i first watched this anime i had no idea what i was about. it was later on while watching it that i came across a post that i descovered that at the time it was considered on of the saddest animes there was. the final scene with scarborough fair and their dialogues truly lived up to that claim. its been years and i still get this lingerring feeling of longing and sadness every time i visit this. truly a masterpiece.

For everyone who indeed finds this anime amazing, I would definitely recommend to read the light novel. The feelings, the story, characters, every aspect of it is on totally high level as anime and even better! There is also a continuation SukaMoka and a new spinoff about Leila Asprey and Willem. (past events of his life, 500 years ago) Also, the author confirmed there will be a continuation of Willem's story in present (basically of the main light novel) P.S. It was so interesting that I was reading 1 book per day))

I hear the finale of the show is effectively volume 3, so by volume 4 they'll be past the anime (it usually takes 4 months for volume releases, so you're looking at close to a year for it to pass the anime). I'm not sure about fan translations.
The point of the song is that the two lovers can’t be together, which is what happens in the anime, Willem is not trying to accomplish impossible tasks 😂

Romeo and Juliet also separated by destiny the errors dropped on them by fate they could have easily escaped together with just a tad better luck. Not a easy life though people depended on extended family connections there was no other safety net it would have been a hard life.

I was just watching this to see if I should watch the anime and now I'm crying T^T Scarborough Fair is such a beautiful song, and those spoken lines hurt so much. The AMV accomplished exactly what I think all AMVs should, and that's to tell a story about the anime itself such that the viewer can understand even without having watched the show. Amazingly done.
If you haven't already, then please watch the anime. It is a masterpiece that puts you through a rollercoaster of emotions almost every episode. One of the most underrated anime ever.
Damn, This song is so soothing, one of the best anime i have seen so far. I don't know why these kinda anime don't deserve a second season because there are many incredible anime that have been ended up already having one season only and those are so awesome and sometimes i get nostalgic whenever i think about the storyline, characters, emotions.
Sukasuka pulled off this one thing really well: "even if the world is ending, there are those trying to live their lives to the fullest and that’s beautiful."
so my brain reminded me of this amazing anime again after a few years and I just had to search for this song as well. this was the only anime I remember getting emotional for and tearing up in the end. all in all it was a lovely experience and people need to add it to their watch list. :)

when i first watched this anime i had no idea what i was about. it was later on while watching it that i came across a post that i descovered that at the time it was considered on of the saddest animes there was. the final scene with scarborough fair and their dialogues truly lived up to that claim. its been years and i still get this lingerring feeling of longing and sadness every time i visit this. truly a masterpiece.

For everyone who indeed finds this anime amazing, I would definitely recommend to read the light novel. The feelings, the story, characters, every aspect of it is on totally high level as anime and even better! There is also a continuation SukaMoka and a new spinoff about Leila Asprey and Willem. (past events of his life, 500 years ago) Also, the author confirmed there will be a continuation of Willem's story in present (basically of the main light novel)
P.S. It was so interesting that I was reading 1 book per day))

I hear the finale of the show is effectively volume 3, so by volume 4 they'll be past the anime (it usually takes 4 months for volume releases, so you're looking at close to a year for it to pass the anime).

The point of the song is that the two lovers can’t be together, which is what happens in the anime, Willem is not trying to accomplish impossible tasks 😂

Scarborough Fair is such a beautiful song, and those spoken lines hurt so much. The AMV accomplished exactly what I think all AMVs should, and that's to tell a story about the anime itself such that the viewer can understand even without having watched the show. Amazingly done.
If you haven't already, then please watch the anime. It is a masterpiece that puts you through a rollercoaster of emotions almost every episode. One of the most underrated anime ever.

Damn, This song is so soothing, one of the best anime i have seen so far. I don't know why these kinda anime don't deserve a second season because there are many incredible anime that have been ended up already having one season only and those are so awesome and sometimes i get nostalgic whenever i think about the storyline, characters, emotions.

so my brain reminded me of this amazing anime again after a few years and I just had to search for this song as well. this was the only anime I remember getting emotional for and tearing up in the end. all in all it was a lovely experience and people need to add it to their watch list. :)
I watched this in 2019, rewatched in 2020, very touching. At that time this was my only favorite anime during the -19 virus lockdown❤️💔😭😭😭
