    I'm so happy to have finally found an Australian gardening channel! Very new to vegetable gardening but looking forward to one day growing enough to feed my family.

    Thank you so much! I've had a vegetable garden for years and just started having problems last year. I've never tested the soil before so I will give that a try. You are fun to watch and you make it look so easy.

    Hi, mate. Where are you getting your info from, such as waiting 3 minutes and dusting from 4 inches away? It's very specific and contradictory to the instructions given with the kit. From my understanding the dye is most accurate within a minute of applying it. The barium sulfate powder is just used to better indicate the colour change of the dye, as long as you aren't heaping it on it shouldn't matter how you apply it. So, for an accurate reading, apply the dye to the sample, dust with the powder and compare the colour change to the reference card within 60 seconds.

    I'm testing the Chemistry kit vS the probe side by side. They read about the same everywhere I've tested except in one raised bed garden where the Probe says 6 and the Chemistry says 8. Not sure which one to believe there.....

      Yeah good idea, I'd like to try that too one day. With research I've done I'd trust the test kit more, but it depends on the quality of both products

    Thank You, I appreciate your sharing this information, how do I know what ph my individual plants and seeds require? My seedlings, strawberry plants and stevia all died. I used the appropriate seed and potting mix with fertilizer and perilite.

    • @JacobsBackyardGardening
      @JacobsBackyardGardening  4 роки тому

      No worries Racine! You can usually easily look these up online, but tailoring it specifically for every individual plant is a waste of time. All plants have a pH range that is best for them.
      Bummer that they died but there's a lot more factors that could be responsible before pH, such as how much water (either too low or too high), amount of fertiliser, position (light), temperature etc.
      Hope that helps a bit Racine, have a good one!

    love your channel and how you pronounce pH. ( P HAYch)

    Noticed that you can buy a soil PH balancer which you add to the soil. It claims to adjust your PH to 7 regardless if it's higher or lower, so I'm wondering if these might be a good lazy mans solution. Do you know much about these and could this be a simple way of correcting without the need to buy a kit and different correcters. Kinda a one stop solution but I don't hear gardeners talking about it so I assume maybe it's one of those too good to be true things.

    • @JacobsBackyardGardening
      @JacobsBackyardGardening  4 роки тому

      I haven't heard about them, just tried looking them up but couldn't find much. I'd say its probably one of those 'too good to be true' cases but would want to try and know how they work.
      Cheers
