Thank for watching! SO close now until we cross the Pacific, with just one more prep video to come :) To see that video early when it's ready head over to www.patreon.com/breakingwavessailing and help keep this channel going!!
Y'all jumped the gun.....that wasn't bad luck....that was extremely good luck.....the universe stepped in to stop you from leaving with a potential fire hazard and no fridge....then it stepped up again and supplied EXACTLY what you required.....after 67 years I've learned that things will go, as they go......the best you can hope for is to wake up in the morning.....glad things went well....please relax....STOP with the schedules.....and enjoy your adventures.....thanks for the content....top notch as usual
Excellent Advice, speaking from Wisdom! I thought the same……😂
Heartbreaking to see Allie cry, You two make a unstoppable team, Safe travels,
It turns out that I have followed you guys long enough that Alies tears almost made me cry. I reminded myself that this is all old news, that you made it safely across the Pacific. Maybe I should have given a spoiler alert before saying that. Hopelessness....what a devastating place to be. It was great to see the smiles return. Love you guys. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Yep it's an emotional one. Thanks Steve!
Hey you two... I know this sucks but "Glass half full!". Better for it to happen now, BEFORE you're out to sea than here where you have a supply chain.Love your channel and best of luck to you both. May the seas be kind to you guys! Damn...I hate seeing her cry. Love & Respect, (&hugs).Doc, Hendersonville, NC.
Thanks Doc! You're totally right .. it all worked out for the best!
When one Door closes, another one Opens & the positive of the refrigerator incident is that it’s probably better you found out something was wrong before you left , instead of half-way across & then there would be all that food…….. Feelings are always on edge before you leave, once you leave the Dock you’ll forget all about this part of it and you’ll be excited about what’s new & coming up…….and you know “Something” will happen, but it probably won’t be the refrigerator!! 🍀
HOLY CRAP Cosmic Debris! I ran into them one time on Isla Partida with some friends! Nice folks. Lucky find!
Great people!
Wow! What an awesome episode. Beyond happy for you guys.
if i ever get a boat, would be a blessing to have a first mate as capable as Alie
Excellent recovery! At least it broke pier side with help and parts available. Far far better than a fire at sea! Nice job!😊👍
Have been super-tired in the past and when things hit then, they hit different! Of course, watching this I know you're halfway around the world so somethings worked out! Congrats on the freezer...my daughters said we're living the American dream when we got our fridge for the garage for extra storage.
If the compressor/pump on the fridge is still ok, then you could adapt that controller to a thermostate (old school)...
The fridge guy said it wasn't possible .. different wiring configurations
Can't wait to see how the crossing goes.
Imagine if that fridge had fried two days outbound. Now that's a chilling thought.
For sure, we got lucky in a way!
Wow that is great to find the parts for the frig.
yay!!! I'm super exited for you two!!
Good things hope to good people. I since hope nothing but good things for you'll. 🤗
We know the feeling folks. SV Lady Midnight is sitting on dock 4 because of the cascading failures that sent me back to (apologies for the four letter word) work two years ago to pay for a major refit. Candace left a few weeks ago, but I'll be down soon to get her ready to take to Penasco for what should be a truly challenging summer of work. Hopefully you're out of there before I arrive in mid-June, but if not - come by Muelle Cuatro and watch me slave over Lady Midnight as I prepare to take her north. Feel free to laugh while you're there.
Chins up kiddos, you could be living on the hard. Wishing you the best.
Hey guys. I just entered a comment on your video on my computer and it disappeared. I noticed you have no comments showing there except your original pinned message. Bottom line..heartbreaking problems overcome, smiles reign and you are in the S Pacific. Stay safe. ❤️🙏
Thanks Steve..not sure whats going on with that. Will investigate!
awwww.... Tears makes us stronger. Shopping makes us happy. We cant go true life without bumps. Fingers are x'st here.
Since the Renogy/Victron and most all of the other solar chargers don't have a volt meter, I put a 4 digit cheap Chinese ebay volt meter, shows like generally 13.24 at the lowest, 14.35 at the highest on my system. Its bright and hard to miss, big digits, . That might have saved you. I might put another alarm but I must say I haven't heard much about this happening. I just ordered one from Ebay , $4.62 What the hell, an alarm for that. Especially if your one of the people that put one of those high output alternators on your system. I think those are dangerous. The interesting thing about the newer high efficiency fridges is that they run on 12 or 24 volts automatically sensing and and adjusting. THAT FRIDGE has a FAN on one END, NEEDS VENTILATION oh but you added the vents, cool. ! I run my house on a bigger version of that blue one, actually, I have two. Ones a little smaller. The idea is to get ready to move all this stuff on my boat !
That's a good idea!
Hi guys , karen and ken here , i feel so bad for you two , 😢 our hearts go out to you .
Know how you feel. Been there done that
Guys don't dispair. There are several sailors crossing oceans with no fridge. Better to have 2 small ones than one big one and have a 3 week supply of can food and get going !. No need to freak out everytime something breaks cause it will its normal :). Renogy controllers are just not good. Neither the Wanderer nor the Elite. Victron for sure I learned that the same hard way you guys did. Renogy is good for solar and maybe batteries. But that's about it.
Nice recovery
You need to understand that boating is 1 step forward and 2 steps back !! You always have something to do !! Everything brakes down and needs maintenance!! The rewards are the experience you gain and the places you get to see.
Should have upgraded to a Nova cool ...made in BC and newer draws way less power
This was a Nova Kool! We actually talked with the owner who sent us the original manual to help us try to solve it. Super helpful guy.
There's your problem Renogy....go with Victron
Yep
Shout out to Dan and Wendy, from Sailing Infidels, and Luiz for being guardian angels! You may have saved the lives of our two heros!!
Im glad you are almost ready for the jump to South Pacific.Watching other channels like Delos, We Sail, Parley, Expedition Drenched, I am convinced this is the Paradise of the Earth. I hope you can get subscribers on the way to 300 to 500 thousand. Thoes channels will also help you with some technic and strategy on content creation and editing that will get you to 500,000 subs. I think if you take your style and take the best off the others and make it your own you will get there. Does Alley have a good bikini collection for the trip/ See Fran on B2B Castaways (Strick and Fran) 1.2 million subs. Whatever you go with I will be watching from Nova Scotia Canada and look forward to your adventures. ALso, are you crossing with any other boats?
300k would be great! Haha yes we are crossing with Calico Skies, and two others
what kind of fridge system do you have? just finishing a refit and have spare systems for free.
Nova Kool!
Maybe having an electrical problem in a marina is better than having it 1000nm off shore🤷🏻
Good luck only from here guys! 😊
This engineer doesn’t seem to be able to fix much!!
Crying is Good. It is emotion turned to matter. It refills the hearts well of love & possibilities. So happy for you both. 🎉❤
Thank you, and yes the tears were needed!
❤😊
👍👍❤
sorry from language iam from belgium ?! 100% support you channel breaking waves :D
courage a vous j adore votre projet n abandonnez pas vos reves tout probleme a une solution continuer a faire rever vos abonner et moi aussi :D
big big support to mee :D
Isn't that the way. Always wanting 6" instead of 4"
As frustrating as it was, Definitely a good thing it broke before you left..
For sure! Everything happens for a reason
Maybe you can purchase some beers to test the fridge and celebrate your successs.
Ha that is a fantastic plan. Thanks Adrian 😁
NO TEARS ! BETTER TO HAVE PROBLEMS TO SOLVE WHERE THERE ARE PARTS AND TECHNICIANS AND A MARINA ! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACIFIC WOULD BE FAR WORSE!
Instead of crying. Go for supper, drink probably too much tequila. Take most of the next day off. Get back into the mode. Let the stress go wherever it goes when its not affecting you lol
I'm pretty sure we drank some tequila that night haha
"..im upset, so let me grab the camera, and run away to film myself crying.." pathetic idea...
Do you feel better now?
It all spells ..... S...T...R...E....S....S....
I hate it for you guys! I guess it’s better now than in Tonga or somewhere even more remote. Stay strong, you’re getting closer everyday whether it seems like it or not. ❤
yes thats true!
sail acro
Seriously....think about it.....3 days in on a multi day passage....both of you topside, unable to smell the circuits burning because of the 20kt wind.....there is fuel (wood etc.) directly above the source of heat.....smoke would've been your only clue.....now you're fighting for your life with an already involved fire.....I would thank Poseidon/Neptune for watching your backs.....again....relaaaaax.....enjoy
That is so true!! Very lucky that it happened while still at port.
I can relate. For the past year, I’ve been outfitting my Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 for a passage from SF to Hawaii. I leave in a month. What a head banging lesson in patience. It’s always two steps forward, one step back. Delay, delay, delay. More money, more money, more money. Definitely NOT for the faint of heart. The good news for me is there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My list is down to one page! Wahoo!!! All the best, guys!
Best to break down at the wharf rather than at the half way mark... 25 years living on board and I have never had a fridge... You can cool a can of beer by wetting a tea towel, (dish cloth), covering the warm can of beer, and place the covered beer and towel in a breeze... There's a good bunch of people crossing this season, you'll have fun...
It's just life, would not make a difference if you owned a house. Things brake and need to be fixed. Just remember your house goes with you every where you go.
Yeah I don’t want to miss any of you guys uploads with Alie in it, She is cute !
Thank goodness that broke before you left, so glad you were able to get it fixed. You guys are getting it done!! Good job
Yes! Thank you!
Hey guys! Glad to see everything worked out and glad we could be a part of the solution. We totally know how crushing the breakdown after breakdown cycle can be but, we're glad that this happened for you when it did and not a week or so after leaving. Thanks loads for the mentions in the video. Much appreciated!
Thanks Ron and Wendy!! Life savers :)
Always entertaining
Really, really well done, Allie. I swear I could feel the tension when the projects were failing... followed by the joy of things getting fixed...
I know I will get many more views out of this one... Currently, I'm fixing up a boat that I enherited from my uncle when he passed a few weeks ago, so I can relate... It's just a brilliant job on the edit, Allie. Can't wait until the next episode...
Be safe... I am praying for you both...
Thanks Stephen :)
Renogy is crap. I've had nothing but trouble with Renogy components in my van. Ended up replacing them all.
Yah it's victron for us from
Now own. We've had good results wit the renogy rover controllers but just can't take that kind of risk.
The way I see it, better to have a breakdown on the dock while you are in port and can get parts than out to see when you are 14 days from land.
Yep that's true! We didn't think getting parts was going to be possible on our timeline which made it feel really crappy.. things in Mexico just don't happen that fast. but stars aligned on this one!
Ben/Allie hi from Calgary. Kudos for not giving up fridge glitch is history. Amazing work at installing the secondary/beer fridge in unused space fits like a glove.
I was always so pleased to watch you sail BC waters and now the big one, exciting times.
I like how Alie is just casually eating the last of the ice cream in the background.
That was a very good ending! YAY!!!!
More click bait ! And whats with the talking in 3rd person?? Very wierd
