  • Improve your front foot drives in cricket with this one simple tip. Playing better front foot drives can change a batsmen's game in cricket and help them score more runs in matches. This batting tip is helpful for beginners as well as advance cricketers.
As a batsmen (of any ages) learn to play front foot shots (cover drive, straight drive, off drive and on drive), they are sometimes unaware of what their back foot is doing. They are so focused on their front foot moving, that their back foot movements are not given much attention. This leads to all sorts of slides and twists! Sometimes the back foot twists up and the heel is pointing up. This causes the batsmen to become squared up in the hips and commonly leads to hitting the ball early, causing edges and ball going in the air.
In this video I show you what is the correct way and how you can practice this to improve your front foot drives.
    Enjoy!!

I think this depends on context. For shots where you want closed shoulders and hips (cover drive, square cut) this is fine. But the lack of turn on the back foot makes it very hard to play on the leg side (e.g. flicking through mid wicket, sweeping, clearing the leg for slogging etc.). You need your hips and shoulders to square-up a bit to play freely into the leg side, especially for powerful strokes. Note that Gary Palmer (English batting coach) builds his entire batting system around getting batsmen to point their shoes laces down the wicket when playing on the front foot.
