I think Dan is the best singer for Tesseract as a band, but Ashe did such an awesome job on Altered State and it is their best album. You'll also notice that Ashe can sing a lot of Dan's songs, but Dan really struggles to sing Ashe's.
@@tristanedwards7302 While I’ll admit that no one sings Altered State like Ashe does, Dan has definitely improved on the AS material since he returned. Just watched Portals and Dan absolutely killed Of Matter and Of Energy.
It’s cool to go through Tessarect’s history and observe the mellowed deeper voice of Abisola, Dan’s sharper voice but still more mellow than Ashe’s insanely high voice.
Polaris is great, but Tesseract is the musical equivalent of The Dark Knight Rises. I always wonder what that movie would have looked like if Heath Ledger hadn't died. Every time I listen to polaris I wonder what it would have sounded like if Ashe was still the singer. I have massive respect for Dan, but it's just not the same.
+Frank Samones I partially agree with you. Jay Postones made it seem like they were having personnel issues with Ashe. Maybe he showed up late all the time. Maybe he was a slob, and tough to live with. Maybe he didn't follow the band's protocols. I honestly get the vibe that Dan is just works way harder than Ashe. Dan's a pro and I'm sure is so much easier to work with. So I agree with you there that he was probably better for the band in that regard. However, artistically I still have to go with Ashe. There's a reason why Tesseract became extremely popular and won tons of awards with Ashe. They caught lightning in a bottle with Altered States.
Completely agree with you on this. I personally find that Dan has done incredible things and some of the songs on which he sings are my all time favorites, but altered state is nearly perfect from start to finish in a way that can't be replicated with another vocalist
Dan goes for a completely different vibe, and imo, is better. Especially after Sonder. Dan has so much more up his sleeve. He can match ashes ethereal quality pretty well, but he also does so much more with his voice than ashe ever could. Dan is definitely more skilled as a vocalist, but nothing tops the songwriting on altered state. Imo, the best Tesseract is Dan doing altered state tracks live.
I love Ashe's voice but it's drowning in effects, reverbs etc ... it sounds messy for a BBC Live and you don't feel the anger in his voice during the chorus - i love Ashe's performance on the album, but man he's not a live singer like Dan !
