Why Should we Read and Meditate God’s Word?
• 2 Timothy 3:16-17
• Psalm 119:9-16
• Psalm 1:1-2
• Joshua 1:8-9
1. God’s Word is His Word
• In the beginning God, and He spoke, and He speaks
• It is Jesus’ book; Jesus is the heart of the Bible
• Jesus acts, and Jesus speaks as we read His Word
• God becomes so real personally to us
2. God’s Word Reveals the Glory of God
• It is not an ordinary book
• It reveals the glory of God
• It is the power of God unto salvation
• Each time we read it, we enjoy and we feel strengthened, encouraged, and we are renewed
3. God’s Word has Guided the Generations
• It transformed their lives
• It increased their faith in God
• It deepened their understanding of God
• It gave them peace and comfort
• It guided them to develop a closer relationship with God
• It helped them resist temptation and live a holy life
How Should we Read and Meditate God’s Word Personally?
There are differences between reading, meditating, and studying
Read:
• Read through the Bible
Read & Meditate:
Start with something simple and easy to understand
• The Gospels
• The Psalms
• Initially a balanced system
Read & Study:
• Study a Book in the Bible
• Study a particular chapter of a book in the Bible
• Study a particular topic
Reading & Meditating God’s Word
The Core:
1. It is personal
2. It is private
3. It is priority number one
4. It is regular
5. It is intimate with God
6. It is transformative
The Content:
1. Read-objectively and clearly
2. Reflect-meditate, analyzing and thinking deep; the word ‘meditate’ means ‘to mutter to oneself’ or ‘to ponder by talking to oneself’
3. Relate-connect with other relevant passages in the Bible
4. Realize-what is the practical message
5. Respond-take it personally, pray for the help of the Holy Spirit
6. Resolve-what should I do-repentance and transformation of life
The Context:
1. Read: Psalm 1
2. Reflect: What is it all about-blessed are the righteous who seek God or contrast between the righteous and unrighteous
3. Relate: Jeremiah 17:7; Proverbs 2:21-22
4. Realize: I should seek God and His ways for my life
5. Respond: I commit this day to walk in Thy ways O Lord! So help me God!
6. Resolve: Avoid ungodly company and ways, and walk closer to God
