I just restored an sc504 and about 20% of the tantalum caps were leaky. I am now restoring another one and almost all the orange 22uf tantalum caps are bad. Nice video!

I enjoyed this video. It will guide me in my 500 series collection. Only have a few cabinets with some power supplies and DVM’s. Decided to wait until these are all working before moving to an oscilloscope.

Excellent Job! I am at a loss as well as to why that voltage leakage was cleared up simply by cleaning the area. Great diagnostics!

What a great job you have done! And what an interesting problem with leakage on the board, happy to see you were able to sort it out. Thank you for sharing with us. Regards, David

Thanks David, it seems indeed that this TM series pcbs are developing leakages. A bit difficult to trace it out but glad that I have found it.

Those are cool little scopes. I had the 80Mhz one and this one for my frames. It's really sad to see one in such sad shape, but of course people will gladly ask $400 or more for one that's been dragged through a swamp, non-working, smashed, picked back up, beaten, recycled, dug 6 feet out of the landfill and then put up on auction sites. In fact, the filthier it is, the more it's worth!
What is happening to the world.... this stuff used to be pretty clean and still affordable. This gear was top the line in it's day and is STILL better than most new. I am glad to see someone that restores this stuff. All of my Tek and HP gear is MINT!!! And I am very, very proud to own it! 👍

Just remember to the of efforts required to buy a new one back in those days! Yes it seems indeed that we are forgetting that they deserve to work in our labs. Thanks for your comment and for keeping these gears with care👍. I share that feeling.

I noticed that the calibration switch on the front panel of your HP 3478A is in the cal position - that is why the LSD on the display is a "C". Regards, David
