  • In summer 2020 I noticed that at around 6pm a terminating service from Didcot has to use the (until now VERY rarely used) down siding to let a Great Malvern service through. The unit then moves back into the down platform to form an up train to Oxford. Most unusual but it would seem, timetabled Monday to Friday at the moment. I can’t remember this siding being used at all for years!

The significance of this escapes me totally. I'm ignorant of train signals, practices & what their rules are. If this does have a point please inform this poor unfortunate, me, of wtf is going on here. Thank you.

It's an uncommon case of a train having to go in to a siding to allow another train to pass, and then come out of the siding to where it was before

Also this siding has been disused for many years.
