usually videos over 30 minutes long are tedious and get boring after a while, but you, like a goddamn 5-star-chef manage to mix the spices just right every time and make every second enjoyable.
Well the government was definitely trying to coax Merkury to deorbit the thing - maybe they are developing some future space laser for future flights, who knows? ;)
@@N9GamingOfficial is there weapons in this mod, and if there aren’t, are there plans to add BD armory later? Because I totally need to see a war between the soviets and the Americans
shhh it was the soviets that sent a big fuck off space laser weapons platform into space irl. They also had spacestations armed with a 23mm autocannon..
Dude I LOVED the chat between Peter and Mission Control, can you do more things like that? Honestly it's really neat and I loved hearing the conversation.
It's so interesting... reminding myself that while we see this fancy footage of Mariner traveling to Mars, in real life, it was (and is) just a bunch of people sitting in a room, watching indicators, hoping from their very limited view point that everything will go right.
Geosynchronous sats can really only cover 1/3 of the earth at any time, and you functionally have less than that as signal degradation increases towards the edge of the beam. To really set up a full comm constellation you need at least 3 but ideally 6 satellites.
Peter: I don't want to fly in a tin can! Flight: What if we put thrusters on it and you can spy on a Russian satellite? Peter: :-) Love these videos, keep doing what you do!
The soviets should be shaking in their boots knowing that we can sneak up on their satellites. Here’s to the future and the hope for a red, white, and blue moon!
The way you did Merkury III was definitely a highlight. In fact, all the ballsy missions including Explorer 8 have been exciting to watch! May your funds stay full and your SRBs stay lit on your journey ahead!
Can I just point out the Irony that Peter doesn't want to fly in a Mercury Kedstone because he deems it a " uncontrollable tin can " , while he will gladly accept to fly in a untested spaceplane
You uploading more often makes me happy, really missed this series when you were gone that period of time, really loved that Black ops mission you did, we need to see more of that, its so neat and gives this some Cold war sense of action.
Gotta love those "Waterfall" effects, they really bring out the eye candy! (Just gonna head off anyone asking a stupid question, "Waterfall" is a mesh driven engine effect mod. That means that you can get all those realistic plumes without relying on expensive particle effects that just don't look as good.)
wait, I just realised your videos have 1080p 30 instead of 60. I'm so glad, I really like the 1080 quality, but the extra frames just eat my bandwidth.
As old as this video is, I still have to comment, that was an incredible mess at the end. So interesting, beautiful solution attempts. The shot of both scouts firing simultaneously was amazing as well.
This came out amazingly! Idk that it's an hour long each second was engaging and like a documentary, not a video game. You really brought this one to life. That rendezvous scene was beautiful I love how you had less than 2k at one point after blowing your "safety". I look forward to see more.. Beat those Russians! I believe in you! And if you ever feel bad, remember NASA took 8 years just to test fire the SLS lmfao. Good luck in your future endeavors! And man, you and those SRBs have a Rocky relationship.
Loved this video so much, the waiting worth every second, missed the x-plaine launches but this was an amazing video keep the good work broh (tought Peter was going to burn the sput hahahahahaha)
Space Ambient #2 by Andrew Sitkov was played at the end of the Merkury III mission right? i cant find it anywhere on youtube and it sounds pretty cool, anyone know where i can find it?
That's actually part of a rather large music bundle I bought from humble bundle a while back! Designed for video game creation but I find they can fit videos too (:
Clearly that was the "Alpha Decay" plan that Peter discussed with flight off the record. I 100% believe that Sputnik was booped by the Amerikans. *tin foil hat*
12:15 When you were raising your apogee with the "see-saw" maneuver, what you could do instead is, activate everything accept fore/aft and fore by throttle for the capsule itself, then point yourself either radial+ or radial- and use your capsule and recovery RCS to relatively move yourself left, raising your apogee. If you are confused by this, I can send a quick video in the discord if you want.
What you're saying is translation left or right yeah? The Capsule RCS was set to only roll actuation, which I could have changed but since Merkury Enhanced was in the works I wanted to leave it as is :D
@@N9GamingOfficial Yes, and setting it so it would be roll, pitch, and yaw, would definitely save some money on some barf bags lol Still jank nonetheless
So taking that Crewed Lunar Orbit contract in late 1960 is just about equivalent to what Boeing did with green lighting the 747 development in March of 1966, real world: they bet the company on this new, large passenger and cargo carrier. Spoiler: Boeing won that bet.

I was half expecting Merkury to smash Sputnik 2 out of orbit with a top secret futuristic space laser. Oh well, you can’t have everything!

Pretty genious mission with Merkury III, maybe future missions are even able to get a man out of the capsule to repair probes or -reprogram them-
Now that would be fun (:
Steal the film out of certain totally normal satellites.
The Sputnik rendezvous was low key terrifying ngl
