Probably the best demonstration of the foiling gybe because of the placement of the stationary camera. Others have the camera either mounted on the boom, mast, or on another moving vessel which doesn't allow you to see where/when in relation to the wind how the turn is accomplished (feet placement/movement, sail, and board direction). I'll keep watching this tutorial until I am successful in doing a full foiling gybe.

Great explanations and great video step by step. But.....there seems to be a real split in the sport about how to teach the foil jibe. Half recommend moving the feet before jibing the sail. The others recommend moving the feet at the end of the turn. Why such a difference? And how to choose which path to take? Thanks for ideas and help.

Very useful video for someone like me who is just beginning to learn the foil jibe.

@@duotone.windsurfing I've gotten a lot better at foil jibing than when I wrote my original comment. I'm still not as good as you in this video, but much better. Two years ago I would crash on almost every foil jibe attempt. I think I carried over some bad habits I had from regular windsurfing into foil windsurfing. I found that jibing imperfections are greatly exaggerated when you're on the foil. If you make the slightest mistake, you're going in the water!
Besides what you mentioned in the video, I learned a few things.
Keep the mast forward and front arm extended going into the jibe. Maybe you did say that in the video.
Sheet in going into the jibe, but by the time you're going directly downwind, the sail should be sheeted out and perpendicular to the wind.
Look ahead of you to where you want to go, which should be on the next tack, but downwind on a broad reach. I tended to look at my rig or look at my feet. That really threw me off.
Keep the mast upright and leaning slightly into the jibe. Whatever you do, don't let it lean to the outside of the jibe curve. That is the kiss of death. I was tending to let the mast lean to the outside as I flipped the sail and that almost always caused a crash. The board would very suddenly turn upwind on the new tack and I would usually fall off the back of the board.
Keep your weight forward and on the inside of the jibe. I was not doing that. If you don't get your weight to the inside, you have nothing to counter the tendency of the mast to lean to the outside.
