You certainly achieve far more than just teaching people how to make something. Without even trying I am sure many of your pupils will agree, you are very encouraging in your approach to people who are maybe lacking in confidence to have a go at something. Especially if it is something out of their comfort zone. It is a very relaxed atmosphere to learn with others, fun and enjoyment at what you are all doing, and so often surprise when you have actually made something that you never thought was achievable. Well Done xx
I just started selling my hand-made candles a month ago. I have 2 other part time jobs. Business is a trickle & I am literally learning new stuff every day!! So I am a bit weary. And THIS was JUST the pep talk I needed. Thank you. Your on-screen enthusiasm, and your great delivery, conveyed hope & belief & healthy determination. THANK YOU!!
This is great! And it has helped me so much!! Especially No.10, I’ve spent so long comparing myself to others & trying to ‘fit in’ when what I should be doing is going with my own thoughts & ideas! The things that are in my head is what’s going to make my business MINE!! It’s also helped me to decide on picking a range or 2 rather than trying to do a bit of absolutely everything!… This has left me with such a clear mind on where to go now! Thank you SO much xxx💖
I made the tea bag holder for a friend using your pattern. I found the pattern on pinterest. It was super easy to follow with great pictures and directions. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your great tips. I would love to have my own craft business one day, but for now it's just a dream. I really love coming to your classes, they are fun and relaxed and it takes my mind off others things, so a big thank you and keep up the brilliant work that you do. x

Oh my goodness I am so happy to have found your channel. You made so much sense, I am trying to "find myself' as a crafter currently and your top tips really helped. I have done some craft fairs and found them a bit hit or miss. Sadly I often found a lot of people just seem to want to buy "cheap" and have little thought for the amount of work that went into creating the item. I will look for more of your videos and would love to see more vlogs. Thank you and best wishes. Xx
Thank you for that I’ve just come across your channel I’m doing handmade craft and items to sell on folksy see in February so that was good and helpful thank you 👍🏼😊

Thank you for the lovely tips on how to run a craft business. I love that you help others achieve their goals. That is a blessing. Enjoyed your video... :D xxx
EXCELLENT!! I was very impressed with all the wonderful tips you have offered to each of us. I live in a small rural area where the Market is saturated with those whom operate Crafting Businesses from their Home Studios. I wanted a way that I could offer something more unique and this is just that..I love to teach and have a spot already picked out that I could actually use to run said Studio and it be very cost efficient. I am so excited!! Thanks for the tips and encouragement.
Hello, I really appreciate the very useful tips you've shared based on your experiences. They are quite inspirational. And 12 years doing your craft business, wow! Watching your video really put away some of the fears I've been having about starting a niche business (I'm very passionate about sewing, wood work and a little bit of tool making!) I think your advice is more than enough to give that little push everyone such as myself needs to turn their hobby and passions into something really profitable. Thank you very much!
This is a must see blog for anyone considering turning their hobby into a business !! All your advice is solid and I agree with every point you made. I went down a similar business path to you many years ago which led me to doing a City & Guilds course just to improve my craft which was then machine knitting. I was asked to teach at the local college and did a Teachers Certificate and thoroughly enjoyed going back to a learning environment. I taught at the college and privately ( but found making to order tedious ) and loved every minute of it because I really enjoyed my craft. I also thought of renting a shop and using the upper floor for classes but sadly my husband died and I struggled emotionally for so long I lost interest in any thoughts of teaching. However, years later having changed my interests completely, went into business with my daughter, rented a retail unit and spent the summer months travelling around the country selling horse wares at competition events. We did very well and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the process, at that point horses were our whole lives so it fitted perfectly. Unfortunately my health took an unexpected turn for the worst and we had to sell up. My point is if you do what you enjoy it doesn't feel like work........except when we were putting up an 8' X 12' marquee at 10pm with no lighting then up at 6am to unpack the stock 😂😂😂😂. I have been able to get back to sewing and other crafts, starting to make and hope to sell online. Good luck with your business, I love watching and seeing your makes. 😍💖👍 xx
Such great advice! Thank you so much. I'm hoping to give up my full time job in time to run a home based craft class business. These are really valuable tips, thank you.
I might have my own crafts business one day. I agree with everything you said. However, even though people should charge enough they don't have to. They don't owe any other anything. If someone wants to operate on a loss that's up to them. Anyway, so glad you found a way to enjoy your crafts and still make a living.
I totally agree, but sadly there are so many people who do this that it means people will choose to purchase from those people rather than the people who are trying to make a living. It's just a big stumbling block for many makers.
There is know wounder you have a successful business well done . I personally not Ready on even thinking this way but I absolutely loved the advice you gave it makes perfect sense just wish I lived closer take a class or two . Have a wonderful day x

This is a good video thank you, but what I really would have liked to know is how did you get the customers in the first place to come to your workshops? What process do you take to get a continuous flow of new customers to your workshops? Thank you 😊✨
Purely word of mouth. In the very beginning I put cards in newsagent windows locally and then when I went into the shop we had customer foot fall. Other than that just good old hard slog and social media. I never paid to advertise anywhere.
Hi may I ask if you have channels for making your crafts ? Like where do you get lavender for your pouches and there was another thing I couldn’t make out what it was. Mini buntins? Thank you 😊
you might consider creating a franchise type option and sell it to people who want to duplicate what you are doing. People pay for a 'paint by numbers' type bundle to start their own business.
I have started to sell my crochet makes for 12 months now, I have kept a spread sheet and selling fees plus postage seem to be the biggest cost. When expenses have been taken off the money received I am left with only 2 figures. As I am not making much when do I register as a sole trader ?
You can register as a hobby business if you are earning under the tax threshold. I did this for many years before I went sole trader. HMRC are very helpful just give them a call

To diversify what sells best, keep records. Simple concepts with one or two colors may be the most popular.
I have detailed sales books from every event I've ever done and all of my classes are on a spreadsheet so I can pull all sorts of data.
