Some sad news | Why I closed my business premises after 11 years - PART 1

- I mentioned that this video contains some sad news. It is part 1 of a series of videos that show behind the scenes of closing my premises.
It has been an ongoing struggle to maintain any form of financial return from the building since the pandemic and with a new monetary crisis the overheads are simply eating any profits that I am making. I've not taken a salary for over a year now and that simply cannot continue.
It is not my intention to close 'the business' in fact I have exciting plans for Beautiful Things moving forward. Our sewing clubs, social media presence and online courses will all continue, but I will be working from my home studio instead.
I even plan to continue some teaching from home and Sandra and I have plans for lots of social opportunities for us all to meet in person during 2024.
I'm actually feeling very positive about the future and excited for the new things I can offer my clients, customers and friends. And this UA-cam channel is going to be back up and running with regular videos and tutorials which I am sure you will enjoy.
I plan to continue business as normal until after Christmas and then will have a period of 5 weeks before I have to vacate the premises. As I am sure you can appreciate there is a lot of packing up and re-homing of things that needs to be done. (hence our recent de-clutter and jumble sale).
I've added a few FAQ's below for you all to take a look at. If you have any questions that you think I've missed, I'd be very grateful if you'd let me know so that I can update the answers on our website.

I’ll always be grateful that you finally got me crocheting!! I’m always recommending your Learn to Crochet course to anyone that says they’ve tried and can’t do it!! They just need a good teacher!! I also enjoyed coming over to help get the starter kits ready. This must have been a hard decision to make, but well thought out. You can’t work for no financial gain. After hearing you speak it makes sense to me for you to do what you are going to do and close the studio. Covid changed everything, and this increased costs of living is making people very cautious about how they spend their money. So sending you lots of luck and positive vibes from Australia. My first interaction with BT was at a Waltham Abbey wool show, and you said about the teabag holder free pattern online. That started me making small things, the following year I joined a taster cactus 🌵 crochet class at the same show with my daughter in law, since then I've been to a few, but not many, classes at bthq and then lockdown came. I purchased your beginners crochet course, and it was fabulous, and I was literally hooked, I purchased the intermediate and practically everything crochet you offered and haven't looked back. You are a brilliant online and inperson instructor/facilitator, and as most of my interaction has been at shows and online, I'm excited for the future. I'm always vocal in recommending your courses, I love the fact that it's there to revisit whenever I need it. I wish you much success, and I await the next phase with anticipation. Maybe see you again at the Waltham Abbey wool show. 🎉

Very sorry to hear this news Claire. I really enjoyed my times at BTHQ - only today I got a compliment on the purse I made at Sian's first class, and which is still going strong. Being so far away from the UK, and in a very busy job, has made it difficult to commit to anything recently but I look forward to future retreats, and maybe some virtual crochet classes over Christmas. Ah thats lovely. Lots of happy memories made. I wont be running any online crochet classes I'm afraid but it would be great to see you at next years retreat. There are only a couple of places left now.

Sad to see this Claire - you taught me how to use my sewing machine there, and I also attended some in-person classes/workshops! Unfortunately my 9-5 and other commitments meant I couldn't join as many as I would have liked, but I'm still here for whatever the future holds ❤
