  • If you want more stopping power for your IRS rear brake drums and can't afford disc brakes this trick might work for you. I replace the 18mm rear wheel brake cylinder with a 22mm front wheel cylinder and it changes the cars braking effect to give more power to the rear brakes.

    Having lots of the parts on hand makes the build go quickly. Getting all the adapters from metric to NPT and SAE and more can be a challenge to find a good supplier. Great progress GZ

    Hey EZ. Another useful video - thanks. One variation I use on my trials cars over here in the UK is to use Type 3 (Fastback) rear brakes with Super Beetle front wheel cylinders. That way you get increased friction surface from larger drums and brake shoes as well as more power from the larger bore cylinders. You are quite right about checking the position of the bleed nipple in relation to the brake pipe connection - don't ask how I know! 🤣 Another advantage is that if you need to strip the brakes down for any reason you don't have to undo the hub nut! Please keep the vids coming - you are the best on YT.

      Great Point! Type 3 stuff is getting very hard to find around here these days. I appreciate your comment and support

    G'day Mr EZGZ,
    You amaze me with what you do. This build is really coming along.
    With swapping wheel cylinders: one thing to watch out for is if you're using aftermarket drums, some of these can rub on the wheel cylinder rubber boots.
    So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

    I made the mistake of putting the big cylinder in the back when i put disks on the front. Worked out well with a pressure regulator on the disks.

    i added some 3/8in holes in the bottom of the backing plate to let the crud out,,,i even honed the front wheel cylinders out for more bore dia. used T3 drums and shoes on the rear and used the thin front shoes,, put my steering brake on the tunnel by the shifter so i didnt have to change hands to steer.. That way pull was to the right and push was left,,,the centrifical force of the car moves you more in that direction,,,,my first one had to handles,,,i started running to fast to use it ,,,LOL

      My old 74 x 88 1800. I took the dual carbs off and put on the single to make it more compact for removal and testing.

    Hi there, another informative video! Have you ever included a brake bias valve rather than swapping front/rear brake cylinders?

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  3 місяці тому

      No because there are no front brakes and the wheels and tires on rear are large and heavy. I just needed more power force
