Criminal Tango

A man is chased by mysterious figures through an apocalyptic urban landscape. In a final confrontation, he realizes that he cannot escape his final destiny… An animated version of « Film Noir » style.

Damn, the scratch-on-film aesthetic is perfect for noir. Loved the image of the tango dancers, it was in interesting juxtaposition... lots of impressive crane shots, the end credits was so good it should have been a the front!

If anyone’s wondering, the song played is “La Cumparsita” by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, an Uruguayan Tango composer. I can’t say much about the video itself but I believe the protagonist is loosely based on Carlos Gardel, another Uruguayan Tango composer. One of his most famous works is “Por una Cabeza” which is played in Schindler’s list. He rocked the top hat like the guy in the video.

I loved (and liked) your video. It is beautiful. With all the great tango music out there, I don't ,however, understand your choice of the hackneyed, hoary old chestnut.

I believe I've given La Cumparsita (Hernando's Hideaway) short shrift. It is classic tango and that should be enough but I think so many people have heard only that tango and will see the video but hear only an instruction to tap a cultural touchstone. Astor Piazzolla is an experimental artist. Maybe he would cut loose with a little something you could use.

IMO it either shows different sides of US life: crime as man and catman, and distracting show as dancers, but in the end these two are a part of the same thing (helicopter scene), or that chases like that are like a game of cats and mice, a dance of tango where only one gets to leave and live, but that memory of the chase, the paranoia leaves and lives with you
