I realize Band of Brothers was 2001 so naturally Stephen didn't reference it but Damian will always be Dick Winters to me.
Ain’t it crazy to see him talking in his native brogue?
@@tommyt1971 Understated but yeah. London native.
I can't believe he's not American, his accent change was so fantastic as Winters. Can't imagine anyone else playing him.
What about LIFE?? He was so amazing in that role.
I loved that show!
Band of brothers
right? i was upset when i heard they cancelled the show after 2 seasons.
Indeed. A friend of mine Rand Ravich created that great show.🙂👍🏾
YES HE WAS!!
He'll always be Major Richard Winters to me.
He actually met Dick Winters
You always have to mention Band of Brothers in his intro Stephen.
Wars do not make great men. But they do bring out the greatness in good men. - Major Dick Winters
BoB's. His portrayal of mr Winters was 5⭐
❤️ Damian Lewis
We are happy you are back in film! 🎉👍😎
I am so sorry for loss of your amazing wife!! 💔😓🥀
Damian is such a great actor.
Band of Brothers, Wolf Hall and Billions were amazing.
I feel his loss for his wife, Helen McCrory. She was an incredible actress that is sorely missed.
Homeland
@@robertgowdey I've never watched it. Can't stand Claire Danes irritates me. Don't know why... just is.
Loved him in Homeland. There was a TV show called Life he was great in it. But Billions still my favorite work of his.
Life he played a detective. Procedural, funny.
@@francescaa8331 I need to catch up on Billions!!!
@@toobasaurus23 Oh but she's so GOOD at her character!!!
Anyone who wants to see one of the greatest readings of a passage of Shakespeare needs to look up Damien’s monologue from 2014 where he recites Mark Antony’s speech from Julius Caesar. Lewis packs an incredible amount of emotion into just a couple of mins.
Band of Brothers and Billions couldn't be two more different characters and he's amazing at both roles
He will always be Major Winters to me. "We're not lost private...we're in Normandy..." Currahee! ♠
"We're paratroopers, we're supposed to be surrounded."
@@kkpenney444 Winters gets interrupted with shaving with ice water, half his face covered in lather and he immediately picks up his rifle to take a German soldier prisoner, “Commin zee here, schnell!” What I liked most about that moment is the pain on his face when he started using the cold water! Grow a beard man, it’s freezing out!!
This guy will always be Dick Winters. Legend.
I don't need to be a spy to have a double life... Just an anonymous YT account seems to work. I mean, that's what my second family thinks.
And they'll keep thinking it... * tents fingers *
I love a good spy story, but even better is a good British Spy movie starring great actors.
Life is still one of my favorite series of all time.
Too bad it was canceled. It surely had a few more seasons in it.
Stephen & crew, I really love watching these interviews but would you PLEASE LABEL THEM AS PART 1, 2, etc?? It’s a toss up to watch them in order.
Having to play the start of each video to find out the correct order bothers me to no end.
They make a playlist for each day. That's how I watch them in order
Will never forget him for Homeland.
Hearing his acting in this clip...
This guy is a brilliant actor, man. 🤯
I'll never forget how bad his accent was
I actually remember him from Band of Brothers before any of the shows Stephen listed in his credits.
No shit everyone does, Stephen is naming his newer ones in the 22 years since.
Totally forgot he has that accent, so use to a near perfect american from Billions/Band of Brothers
Actually, Damien Lewis speaks British and puts on U.S. accents.
@@daniellamcgee4251 * English* British is many things and accents.
A Spy Among Friends is fabulous.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The next James Bond!! ❤ I never even thought of him for the role, but he would be fabulous. I loved him in LIFE!!
They need who is around 35 and can commit to the series for the next 15 years.
Rather too late ... a bit too old.
Glad to see he's back. He disappeared under the radar for a while after he lost his wife.
Understandably.
Boo
He needs to make that accent dissappear
I saw him in the BBC drama Warriors first, about a group of UK soldiers in Bosnia. He was excellent already then.
Oh wow!! So glad Bobby is coming back to Billions!!!! I mean that sincerely! He’s such a great complex character🥰
I'd love it if Lewis played someone related to Eggsy in a Kingsman sequel.
A long lost uncle, maybe.
Band of Brothers
Captain Winters = The GOAT
o7 you salute the rank, not the man
Polite cool handle
That was brutal.
I never understood why the host asks the actor to explain the scene we are about to see. The actor then explains everything we are about to watch and then we watch it. Why not just show the scene? Stupid.
How do so many British actors play better Americans than so many American ones??? He even played an American Quaker! 😉
Apparently many British actors grew up watching Hollywood movies and they learnt to imitate the stars' various accents. Quite a lot of them are great mimics too.
Oh and Paco? He's not a Quaker.
'L🤗VED
📺▫LℹFE‼👌😎
We're living an ongoing spy thriller.
So immersed in American shows that his Brit accent is vanishing away!!
Awwww, he's definitely not boring.🥰😘❤️ This is one spicy man.🌶️😃
Wow! Never in a million years would I have guessed he's British
What?!!
He is super British, although his American accent is quite good.
@@sergiosaunier I knew he was British. I was astonished not many people knew that.
@@MTMF.london I was answering to the original comment and I get your incredulity about it, no worries.
@@sergiosaunier 👍
Hope he’s doing better. He lost his wife a few years ago.
His wife was so lovely and talented. Such a loss.
I already watched it, whilst good and based on real life...its dialogue heavy which will put some dunderheads off.
It sounds very British, which is good in my book!
OK I'm getting some Michael Keaton vibes from Damian in this interview. Which is THOROUGHLY APPROVED.
this guy.....what a person....next level actor
I used to want to be a spy. Inspired by Miss Scarlet on VHS Clue part 2 I think.
I always think of him as Dick Winters. Strange to hear his natural accent.
Besides Band Of Brothers, he's had great success portraying Americans, with a very good accent, in Life, Homeland, and Billions. I'd say many people think he is American.
Damian, dude, go full British. It's a classy accent.
Take what you know puppet the puppets. The master plan outlays a plan.
Steven seems to either not be prepared well or like he doesn't really know how to deal with Damian. It's like Damian is really trying and Steven isn't picking up the ball.
As it is known to have happened quite a few times. Slightly odd personalities tend to throw Colbert off.
Reminds me of Homeland
"Do you think you'd be a good spy?"
"....No."
Ladies and gentlement, i think we have our next Bond.
Kim Philby was good friends with James Angleton also.
Who is another major character in the show. It's very good.
Yes, and Kilby’s defection drove Angleton slightly mad: he became obsessed with moles in the CIA and nearly destroyed it.
"Impeach the Peach!" Bonus points to anyone that can name the source.
Mark Twain?
I watched A Spy Among Friends when it came on streaming here in the UK. Bloody good show. Want the Ben MacIntyre book it's based on. (Also wrote the Operation Mincemeat book.)
I had binge watched on ITVX too. The book is according to Mr Crunge very good. Another spy/traitor was George Blake who was UK "manchurian candidate" was was captured by the North Korea and turned in his captivity, although there is some conjecture if he had sympathies with the USSR beforehand.
Life is a movement where things happen...I'm not sure about a double or single life...
He was Great in BANDIT BROTHERS !! as Dick Vinters WW2
Band Of Brothers, maybe?
When we were near DC and Pam said “good morning cruel world?”
King William 4 of England talk about king James iv of Scotland
Someone made a brodi call or something on my phone a year bc ago at Okeefe center. I lent someone my phone. Thought you’d like to know.
Could it have been Damian?
what happened to his accent? it's almost totally gone... when he was making band of brothers u could barely understand him out of character
Why is Lewis wearing a suit 2 sizes too small?
Now I have to watch "A Spy Among Friends."
This actor is an actual spy, and they were both rubbing it in your face the entire time
His American accent is one of the worst I've ever heard
he look like a steve mcqueen all over
Leaner, but I get your point.
Damian Lewis obviously haven’t read the book or anything about Kim Philby… Does “Cambridge Five” means anything to him?
I lieterally love AXEL. Nowadyas, I really like "Billionas"
He'd be a fucking great spy. He plays American characters better than Americans do, and if people didn't see him in these other roles or read his Wikipedia page 99.9% of Americans would never guess. He's like Hugh Laurie in this way. Americans will default to thinking he's American. His portrayal of MAJ Dick Winters in Band of Brothers brings US service members (and anyone else) who watch BoB to tears to this day. It's unreal.
He is a spy. Rewatch it, they were both rubbing it in your face the entire clip
Love the purple socks. But a spy could never get away with purple socks.
I threw in a like as soon as I heard the band playing Suspicious Minds.
The new series is really fantastic
He's right: nobody but your employer and your lawyer knows what you do.
As lawlessness became the Norm, vigilantism will Also become the norm.
I've been watching him for years and have never seen an interview with him and heard his accent till now.
🌹 lovely to see him again🙏🏾
Yea I saw ur video Andy😜
What a talented and awesome actor!
don't forget Band od Brothers
Keep forgetting he is British
Jonesy
Hello Brody / Bobby !
Patrick’s mom
Is this a sequel of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy..
No. This is based on a true story of a British spy who defected to Russia. But 'Tinker, Tailor Soldier, Spy' is also a great film with Gary Oldman in top form. The TV series with Alec Guiness is also great. Check them out.
@@MTMF.london Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was also based on a true story as well...time for Mrs. Google 😊
@@rochelleharris2654 There were always double or even triple-crossing spies during the Cold War. But the story (as depicted in the movie) of 'Tinker, Tailor ...' is not necessarily how it was. Some elements of it were there in real life of course, but GCHQ/MI6 had consistently denied it as the truth.
Wow his English accent is almost completely gone. He’s been playing Americans for too long
I never really quite liked Damian Lewis as an actor, and now I know why. His own ego and narcissism always seem to come out in his characters, most of which shouldn't have those traits in the first place. Ego and narcissism are the biggest weaknesses for a spy, and Kim Philby was precisely a bad spy for that very reason. You never hear about the good ones. They prefer secrecy not because it makes them special and part of a knowing elite, but because they understand its utmost necessity in the mission they are given. If I watch the show, it will be for Guy Pierce, a genius actor who gets to the core of each of his characters without ever turning them into a version of himself.
Impeach susan Rice
What happened to him ? He looks verying unhealthy
Dont know he looks older, his wife died 2 years back so that gotta suck. Think hes got some otber girl
The guy lost his wife to cancer and has two teenagers that live in London. And now he's having a midlife crisis in which he wants to be a musician with an american hard rocker girlfriend.
@@graceharper-sr8qs What inspired this comment exactly? He's dating an age appropriate woman, who happens to be a musician, a few years after tragically losing his wife. What midlife crisis behaviour is he displaying?
He's 52 years old who's in good nick.
