We did this in TKD, but I think it conditions you to stand in front of a punching opponent, wo trying to evade or block.. Your head is totally neglected. Later I got into a fight and lost on the street. Much later I learned BJJ and got onto another street fight and won!! The guy later said he would kill me, so I carried a gun for a couple months.
Why do they Always get so close to each other. It seems that they just walk towards the opponent without setting up a shot. Can you explain me the dynamics of kiokushin fights?
As punches to the face are not allowed (because it's a bare knuckle fight), the most efficient distance to hit your opponent's body with punches, and also prevent receiving kicks in your head at the same time, is at close range. It's similar to those situations when boxers are pretty close to each other and usually both fighters keep punching each other in the torso, with the difference being that in boxing anyone can come with an hook to the face at any time. Of course you must be pretty resistant to body punches otherwise you can lose the fight just by the pain of those (it happens ate 13:45 in the video). Although in my opinion, when most skilled fighters go for kyokushin kumite, usually they tend to get more distance from eachother during the course of the fight, when more kicking techniques usually are seen.
Is it normal that they're throwing almost no blocks? I mean I could see technique for sure but it seems like it's totally lacking something. Like blocks or stances. Both of which could make these fights way more interesting. -- I mean I would think the blocking would actually be more powerful than the punching.
