I'm 51. I've had aquariums off and on since I was 7. I've built many tanks, used live plants from LFS and online, and of course those cylindrical containers from the big box stores. This is the FIRST TIME I AM HEARING THIS! 😆🤣 SO nope, you're not the last person on the planet to hear about this. As of this comment, I AM! 😆

I always cut that cup open in order to rinse the gunk off of the roots.
If it was weighted enough to hold the plant to the bottom of the aquarium I’d consider using it.

I don't know why I think I was the only person using mini pots in an aquarium. But any ways there's a way to protect it from corys. Just put sand and mini pebbles on the top layer. Then sand again on top to hide the pot. Have fun!

The asplanium(so?)fern that you mentioned around 1 minute 50 seconds grows to 5 ft in maturity. Bird's nest Fern is a common name and they remain manageable for some time but not a long-term terrarium dwelling success.

I also wish that plants I have ordered from all different places in the US, came with the clay rings like in the UK! That would be awesome! if anyone knows of a US grower that sends aquarium plants out with the clay rings, please let me know.😊 I have even tried to look them up on Amazon and ordered some, but they ended up being like an inch tall with an inch wide hole, not what I was looking for, using them, but not the flattish orange clay rings with smaller hole that I would love to get my hands on...lol.

Nope, you're not! I.will need to try that!
However, I do open from the top. I carefully cut across, open it, and then push up the plant through the opening by the base. Sometimes you can wiggle the plant out of the hole. If you can, all the gunk is contained. I use a plastic bag to put the bottoms in...sometimes you do need to cut it to get the plant out, but the growing medium is contained within the bag.
