As someone who's pre ordered every gears game, and am the proud owner of the seriously..., seriously 2.0, and seriously 3.0 achievements along with also owning a gears of war tattoo with a collective like 40 days of play time in each game, I can safely say I feel micheal and Ryan's pain when I see the slight smug on Geoff and Jeremy's faces, those loveable bastards.
The first two were the shit when they came out. The term "Horde Mode" comes from GoW2 and several games have adopted similar game-modes to it. I'm not sure if Nazi Zombies was somewhat inspired by Horde Mode because GoW2 and CoD: WaW came out the same year, but, nevertheless, both Horde Mode and Nazi Zombies are the foundations for the modern "hole yourself up in a limited area while fighting waves of enemies" play-style.
