- Color mapping astro images is an important step to create images that are both informative and beautiful. This video discusses how I create a natural SHO color palette in Photoshop.
Great video
Wonderful again Graig. I am surprised you do not get thousands of views!
This is really great Craig. Short, and very explanatory
Very nice method Craig. Thank you for sharing this. Is it possible to achieve the traditional SHO palette using this method as well?
Yes, it just a matter of how you adjust the color of the Ha layer. If you leave green at full strength and reduce red and blue with the Curves adjustment layer you'll be back to a traditional SHO mix.
Nice! One question - you mapped O to G and B, and H to R and G, which makes sense - but just to confirm, you left S mapped to R, G, and B? I've exclusively used PI to date - but as I move into NB imaging, I'm going to learn PS more because it seems like some operations are just easier.
You are correct. Since S was on the bottom of the layer stack it was contributing its data in all three channels, R, G and B. Oxygen was above the sulfur layer group and it contributed only G and B effectively replacing the contents of the G and B channels. That left R coming from S and G,B coming from O to create an SOO image. Ha was on top but it was in Lighten blending mode so its effect was to lighten the contents of the R and G channels with its own contribution. The end result is an SHO combination. It seems really awkward at first but once you get used to the idea it's very easy.
Excellent video!
What’s the deal with the xylophone?😂
