I Saw Mr and Mrs 55 In 1955. I Was So Taken By Madhubala's Performance. My All Time Favourite Personality After That. Thank The Video Revolution. ❤❤❤.SS. Watch Agniparikhsha With Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar. I Believe You Will Like It.😊😊😊. SS.
Although we shouldn't judge people from a long time ago by today's standards, that's often very hard to do. It's really difficult to get past something like "a woman should accept beatings from her husband because he really loves her". Don't blame you for not liking this movie too much.
I saw it on big screen some years ago. It's my first Guru Dutt film. It was a very enjoyable experience. Madhubala was so great. But I like how you hold it up to today's standards and don't do all the prefacing.
IMO, Guru Dutt's best movie is Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam with Pyaasa a little distant second. Officially, Abrar Alvi was the director but people say Guru Dutt ghost directed it.
i wish you liked it more ... it's one of my favourite rom-coms may be its more suited to indian culture and traditions... watch Chalti ka Naam Gaadi , a classic movie i am sure you would like it much more, it also stars madhubala who is unarguably the most beautiful actress of Indian cinema ever .... she was also called the world's biggest star by times magzine in 1950s in an era dominated by men
I take exception to your statement that the movie is more suited to Indian culture and traditions. I am also an Indian and I honestly could not enjoy it. I agree with you on Chalti ka naam gaadi, though. It is one of my favourite classics. The car race gets me everytime, and the songs are to die for...
Jimmy you should create your own website or with OSR, to rate and recommend Indian movies for global audience You guys can be better than IMDB ratings!
I didn't like it either, other than the songs. Felt chunky and scenes didn't flow. Societal tropes were exaggerated but okish. Johnny Walker and the office romance song is one I Karaoke all the time! Also udhar tum haseen ho and swimming pool one -thandi hawa
That is exactly what I took away from it as well. A well made movie full of misogyny. My favourite Guru Dutt film is Baaz...not the most popular of his movies.
@@TheJimmyCage Thanks for your reply! Yes, the video quality is quite poor. It certainly hasn't been preserved very well. The version I saw (I have the DVD) has a portion missing towards the end, but it is one of those rare movies of the 50s where the heroine is actually a heroine, not a love interest or companion...I don't know whether you'd enjoy it, but if you like swashbucklers, you can give this one a go.
awww i can't believe you watched this Gurudutt's classic... Madhubala is the most gorgeous women ever to appear in world cinema !!

Unfortunately Baaz looks pretty bad even on the Criterion Channel :/ But maybe I will give it a shot nonetheless.
