WWII - The Invasion of Poland (1939): Every Hour

  • NOTE: Regarding the time used in the video, this does not use exact timing. This means that for instance 5:30 was still counted as under 5 am. I know I shouldn't have put 05:00 and instead 5 am to provide better indication but I just want to let you know the system I always use
    Music
    Audiomachine - Blitzkrieg
    Colossal Trailer Music - Devour (the credits in the video credited the wrong creator/s, I apologize)
    This video will show you how the invasion actually happened as opposed to what other videos show. This video does not intend to simplify the details, and aims to have the utmost accuracy as it could possibly be. Mistakes are still possible and if you notice them then I (the creator) will take full responsibility for the mistakes.
    The Germans, whose mobile vehicles rush before the infantry are what the West calls the first application of "Blitzkrieg" (lightning war). This method of combat in simple terms, is the application of old-conventional warfare with the use of modern technology (radios, tanks and planes) instead of trenches. This helped them cause shock and confusion to the Polish side of the frontlines and achieve a great victory.
    But this did not mean they were flawless. In fact, the German commanders were not satisfied with the performance of the Wehrmacht due to the apparent lack of coordination and discipline. The Poles fought valiantly despite their lack of preparation and equipment. Pro-German narratives have unfortunately tarnished these achievements.
    To finish, according to research, every village faced the brutality of the Wehrmacht alone (every local government in villages mentioned about every individual affect of the German occupation in each and every village), let alone every town and city, so that goes the so called "clean Wehrmacht" narrative. It is a myth.
    Most of the victims were Poles and Jews. The Ukrainians would also take part of these war crimes but with some Ukrainians facing the truth that the Nazis were not there to liberate them.
    Terminology
    OUN - Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists
    SZP - Polish Victory Service
    ZWZ - Union of Armed Struggle
    Methodology
    Wikipedia and the book Case White: The Invasion of Poland by Robert Forczyk were used as primary sources for this project.
    In order to have all of the places portrayed as accurate as possible, every literary works about every single village/town/city history was researched.
    Many areas did not have a specific hour and assumptions were made. Normally, a soldier would wake up at dawn (03:50). Nobody would be able to tell the exact hours of events it's not like I was involved in the invasion or anything...
    Foreign sources were used since English sources would not be able to cover everything about an event that occurred outside the English world.

    Edit: I made a mistake. Apparently in this video, Nowogrodek isn't replaced with Novogrudok during the Belarusian annexation.
    German units entered Warsaw at dusk, not at 4 am. I made an assumption due to the lack of resources I could find. I could've tried to find more and I wish I did but I was lazy.
    Also the German and Polish raids in East Prussia (Warmia-Masuria) from the night of September 3-4 were not shown.
    Also its not called German Realm its a mistake...
    Gg goodbye mapping career
    Edit (8/21/2021) - ATTENTION: The credits had a mistake. Apparently I claimed that the song "Devour" was from Secession Studios. It was not. It was from Colossal Trailer Music. I fucked up.
    Also the Polish Underground State isn't even meant to be shown so I do not know why I portrayed it.

    German forces invaded Poland from the north, south, and west the morning after the Gleiwitz incident. Slovak military forces advanced alongside the Germans in northern Slovakia. As the Wehrmacht advanced, Polish forces withdrew from their forward bases of operation close to the Germany-Poland border to more established defense lines to the east. After the mid-September Polish defeat in the Battle of the Bzura, the Germans gained an undisputed advantage. Polish forces then withdrew to the southeast where they prepared for a long defence of the Romanian Bridgehead and awaited expected support and relief from France and the United Kingdom.[15] On 3 September, based on their alliance agreements with Poland, the United Kingdom and France declared war on Germany; in the end their aid to Poland was very limited. France invaded a small part of Germany in the Saar Offensive, and the Polish army was effectively defeated even before the British Expeditionary Force could be transported to Europe, with the bulk of the BEF in France by the end of September.
    On 17 September, the Soviet Red Army invaded Eastern Poland, the territory beyond the Curzon Line that fell into the Soviet "sphere of influence" according to the secret protocol of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact; this rendered the Polish plan of defence obsolete.[16] Facing a second front, the Polish government concluded the defence of the Romanian Bridgehead was no longer feasible and ordered an emergency evacuation of all troops to neutral Romania.[17] On 6 October, following the Polish defeat at the Battle of Kock, German and Soviet forces gained full control over Poland. The success of the invasion marked the end of the Second Polish Republic, though Poland never formally surrendered.
    On 8 October, after an initial period of military administration, Germany directly annexed western Poland and the former Free City of Danzig and placed the remaining block of territory under the administration of the newly established General Government. The Soviet Union incorporated its newly acquired areas into its constituent Byelorussian and Ukrainian republics, and immediately started a campaign of Sovietization. In the aftermath of the invasion, a collective of underground resistance organizations formed the Polish Underground State within the territory of the former Polish state. Many of the military exiles who escaped Poland joined the Polish Armed Forces in the West, an armed force loyal to the Polish government-in-exile.

      i made assumptions. unfortunately i admit that putting many assumptions to 4 am default was dumb, because i was dumber back then. when i have time, i will remake this video. while this is probably the most accurate version on yt, its still not very impressive at all in accuracy anyway.
      i believe in situations like these its fine to make assumptions. with 12 hours we still have to make assumptions, and every hour shows a bigger picture of how the war was going on, because of more activity. hence, i chose to do every hour as difficult as it had been.
      as much as possible i tried and will try to find as much specific hourly information instead of assumptions

      1. For the Vilna region, you show the date of transfer as 28 October, but in fact it was handed over to Lithuania in mid-October and the 27th(not 28) was just a border demarcation.
      2. The dates you show for the annexation of Western White Ukraine and Western Russia are only the dates of accession to the respective Soviet republics, but in fact the dates of accession to the Soviet Union were 1 November (Western Ukraine) and 2 November (Western Belarus).

      @@DeliriumMaps it wasn’t a puppet state until like mid-1944, this invasion is happening in 1939. All it was was a German ally with German influence, not a puppet state. And even if it was, hypothetically, why would you say ‘Slovakia (Germany)’? It isn’t Germany even IF it hypothetically was a puppet state.

    • @DeliriumMaps
      @DeliriumMaps  11 місяців тому +2

      that is not true. theres no formal requirement to be considered a puppet state. it was obvious that slovakia was under heavy influence and was not acting out of its sole interest. and it was trapped in between germany, poland, and hungary. none of whom were friendly. they were a german protectorate deep inside, following the orders of berlin. mid 1944? serious?
      also, the (germany) part was to indicate that they were under the german sphere of influence. the reason they are shown with a different color and a different name is because they are still technically a separate country from germany.

    • @DeliriumMaps
      @DeliriumMaps  11 місяців тому +1

      and unlike hungary or bulgaria or even italy, slovakia said yes to germany almost every single time and was under the pressure of being invaded. that, my friend, is a puppet state. and its a worse case than vichy france because slovakia was a significantly easier target, and therefore, naturally tend to become less resistant. and lets not forget the fact that they gave access to a significant amount of nazi german troops to invade poland, risking their sovereignty altogether. vichy france hasnt even done such thing to such an extent. it was almost as if slovakia was a de facto autonomous german province

    • @DeliriumMaps
      @DeliriumMaps  11 місяців тому +1

      regardless, i can understand your criticism and view. they didnt follow german orders every single time, and arguably it might be too simplistic to call it a puppet state. but the heavy influence of germany also cannot be denied. but regardless, this relationship was almost similar to how japan treated a lot of its "allied states". germany determined slovakia's future at the time, and they could only say no to some things under immense pressure as a way to give them some form of leniency, an illusion of independence. but in reality it was all a show
