Across The Sand - Earl Klugh

- One of my all time favourite guitarists I remember buying the first Earl Klugh album back in 1977, inspired by another great legend 'Chet Atkins' I've collected most of Earl's albums to date (although now in the possession of my 23 old guitarist son). Across The Sand sums up 2 major likes of mine, the beautiful sound of an African choir and the 4 decades of enjoyment from this master player. When this video was posted I could never have known how huge this track would be in Africa as nearly all the comments are from that part of the world. Understandable though as 'Across The Sand' is probably one of the best blends of guitar and African music I've ever heard.
2024 - im still loving this song😊

Been a slave to Earl Klugh music for over 3 decades. Totally enraptured. I really don't want to be free from his devastatingly and completely sweet melodies. Quite unique classical guitar works. Inimitable.
awesome works, so many memories of our departed ones, lets heal the world
I can't spend a day not listening to this track I become a little bit deaf
Mr. Klugh, You play the keys to my heart, so beautiful and everlasting. I have listened to this one song, "Across the Sands," literally, hundreds of time. I can never play it once and walk away. Thank you for this song and all of your music. You are a gift.
I have been listening to this song since the 1990s. I've been sitting here working with Jazz music playing in the background, nothing out of the ordinary. I wasn't paying attention to the music in the background. Then this song started to play, and it was -- something unusual about it, causing a stir within my core. So I had to stop working to check, and to my surprise, an added layer of drums. Man, you have no idea how much you moved my soul with this rendition. Thank you very much. I'm from southern Africa, working from somewhere in North America.
Heavenly
Excellent. Fantastic. Congratulations.
I have been a fan of Earl Klugh my whole life as well. I have never missed an album. I think he is the best there is hands down. This sounds weird but Earl Klugh put a little bit of heaven on earth.
You just gained a new follower 2024. Well Played Sir🤗

Always reminds me of my late Dad 😔.
Still listening to this in 2024
One of my favorites from Earl Klugh. There were 2 versions of Across the Sand on his album, but this is the definitive one.
Nice drum work, nailed it, man!
Thanks 😊
Don't think I ever heard of this. Great! Thanks for posting!
I didn't know the name of this song, had to hum it to our Whatsapp group and it had been a good hour debating about the name of the song. Finally I found it Lol!!!!
Awesome ❤
Always reminds me of my youth and carefree safe days when we lived to the fullest and vibed very high 🎉
This song brings tears to my eyes. It makes me think of my late father. He didn't want me to the guitar, saying that it's for those who are demonic, according to our culture. But, I accidentally heard him whispering to his friend when they heard me playing this song that, "this boy can play this thing and I'm proud of him". I can't finish a day without playing this song,
Reminds me of my university days. I would play this from my balcony at 4A.m.. No one complained.😂
The biggest radio station in Africa, Ukhozi fm used to play it. Thanks to uKhozi
Reminds of everything beautiful about growing up. Mom, dad, brothers everything. May Bheki Msane's soul rest in peace

音が綺麗に録れているなー
Damn my late brothers thing👌
Beautiful! Massages every neurone… 🥰👍🏾
So lovely to be able to watch the drumming featured front and centre for this track. I absolutely love Earl Klugh, but watching the drumming on the track has let me appreciate it on a whole new level. Beautiful, relaxed drumming with the perfect groove.
Thank you David, yes there is no other like Earl and this track is so beautiful. 🙂
@@martinHearndrums I hope I was clear enough in my comment dude, that it was your playing, in particular, that made such a wonderful new experience of the track. The nuance and expressiveness of your drumming was amazing, with so many subtly different cymbal sounds. I haven't properly appreciated drumming on tracks like this as much as I should. It was an education as much as a pleasure.
@@poemsandplaypieces Absolutely David and I really appreciate the comment (well both now in fact) It's nice to hear I managed to add something good to this wonderful track. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Do you play drums yourself? Just wondered as you seem to have a very educated appreciation of my interpretation. Take care......Martin.
Hi Martin, I play guitar and sing, but no the drum kit is a wonderful mystery to me. I've always been able to appreciate a drummer with a good groove and can hear some individual styles from some drummers but watching you interpret this track gave me a whole new appreciation of the musicality that's possible from a great drummer with a feel for the nuances of the music. Great work!
@@poemsandplaypieces Okay, well thank you for enjoying my work, these comments mean a lot to me. Orchestration and musicality have always been very important to my playing and teaching so It's really nice to see it appreciated. It's been great talking to you David and have a lovely Christmas.......Martin.
U make me sad and happy, Earl
Thank u,am loving it,waow

Across the sand and past the palms a boat is pushed out to the open sea for it's journey. Much applause to the excellent drummer.
...brilliant!👏👏👏👌👌👌
Beautiful by Earl's, and you played great, Earl's is one of my favorite guitarists .... beautiful
Thank you Deki
Earl klugh is a guitar genius...
This is so refreshing 💆♀️
Can you tell me sizes of your toms ? I just got a new set ot crush drums . They came with 8,10,12 and 14 and 16 floor toms. I like your sound. Thanks. I intend to replicate your classical gas. 🇺🇸😎
Yes of course Gary, the toms are Sonorlite Norwegian Birch 8x8, 10x9, 12x10 and 14x12 making them fairly much fusion sizes, the heads are Evans G2 Level 360's which I find give a nice wet tonal sound. Bass drum is a 22x18 and I use a Black Panther black brass and gold hoop snare on this vid but on others the matching Sonorlite 14x7 wood snare. Hope this helps you find the sound you are looking for. All the best .....Martin
Yoh I'm loving this... Can you please also do Earl Klugh - If you're still in love with me 🥺.
Thanks Sfundo, Yes Low Ride I have that album and that is probably one of my favourite tracks unfortunately though at present I don't have a studio but thanks once again and glad you enjoyed the video, stay safe.. Martin 👌👍😉
